Chapter 30 " Bloodied Confessions"
**Damon Narrating**
Before I left home, Gael came over before I headed out. I was in a daze, my mind consumed by negative thoughts, and maybe it would be good to confide in him about what was going on, or maybe not.
I've met so many people, some with good hearts, others not so much, who killed for pleasure or fun, who betrayed people as if they were nothing. I couldn't trust people for a long time, and it all started when they murdered my parents.
"Hey, brother," Gael entered the house.
"Hey, Gael. How are you?" I asked.
"I'm fine, friend. And you, why the long face?" he asked, Gael knew me well.
"I'm upset about some things, Gael. Can I trust you?"
"You can always trust me, Damon. We're brothers. And I'm your advisor. I wouldn't betray your trust even if I wanted to."
"I know. My uncle told me that some information was missing from the papers he asked me to fetch that night I met Elena."
"Yes, and?"
"He hinted, Gael, that Elena might have taken those papers. I honestly don't want to believe that."
"Look, Damon, I don't know this ragazza very well. But I don't think she would do that to you. She seems like a calm girl."
"That's what I'm pondering too. But I investigated and hacked into her computer, and I found some things, Gael. Her computer showed she received a reward for information. And the email was still marked as unread."
Gael seemed to contemplate what I said.
"But why would your uncle inform you about this? It's so strange, Damon. Maybe he set up Elena? He didn't seem to like your marriage to her and made that pretty clear."
"I don't know, Gael. I trust my uncle, but he has some odd behavior. And I'm not sure if I can trust a woman I've known for a short time, or my uncle."
"You should investigate further, brother. You can't accuse either of them without being sure."
"I knew talking to you would be helpful." I smiled and hugged him from the side.
"I'm always here, Damon. Always will be. But we need to be careful; we're one of the biggest gangs. We can't afford to be reckless."
"Yes. That's why I'll go to the clinic and investigate her a bit more."
Just the thought of Elena possibly lying to me outright for money and, worst of all, giving my uncle the satisfaction of proving he was right about her all along, made me feel sick. What Gael said also made sense, leaving me so confused. I didn't know whom to trust anymore.
I didn't know what the future held, whether Elena and I would stay together, or what would happen next. But what we did know was that it was just a marriage of convenience, and Elena didn't love me, or maybe didn't even like me a bit. I also hadn't been very kind to Elena most of the time.
If this really happened, I admit I was too naive and deserved to suffer the consequences. Anyway, I thought about everything during the whole journey, my heart twisting with every move I made, feeling miserable all the time.
I decided to confront her and unburden my heart. I hoped I was wrong, just that. My heart was shattered and torn.
I was never good at expressing my feelings, but I wanted to approach Elena and talk to her about what I discovered regarding her. I wanted to ask if it was true or just a misunderstanding.
Maybe Elena never realized how much I cared for her, how much I wanted to protect and love her. Maybe I didn't know how to show it either. But if she betrayed me, I would seek revenge.
I parked the car in front of the clinic and noticed a commotion with people talking about something happening inside. I tried to navigate through the crowd and entered. I didn't understand what was going on. I adjusted my gun in my waistband because we can never be careless, right?
As soon as I entered, I encountered a man totally out of control, trying to harm people. Marcos was on the floor, injured and distressed. I had no idea what was happening there. I looked for Elena and rushed to her. Elena was scared, and the man was threatening her with a scalpel.
I thought, "What madness is this?" I couldn't allow this guy to hurt more people. I decided to act. Quickly, I drew my gun and shot the aggressor in the leg, not to kill him, but to immobilize him. After all, he was already in the hospital and didn't deserve care after what he did. I'm an assassin, but I don't shoot innocent people for no reason.
I pushed him to the ground, irritated. No one touches Elena, and I won't allow it.
Stepping on his head, holding the gun, I yelled, "Who do you think you are to try to hurt my wife, you idiot?"
The people around were terrified of the gunshot, but no one interfered. They must have thought I was a cop or something. I needed to speak with the security to assess the situation and protect myself if someone called the police. I couldn't take any risks.
Elena came running to me, holding my hand, asking me not to kill him and explaining what had happened. She said he had lost a loved one and was accusing her of administering the wrong medication that caused the death.
I responded, filled with anger, "So what? He hurt you and other people. It doesn't matter that he lost someone. He has no right to go around attacking and hurting innocent people."
Elena asked me to stop being so brutal and said he couldn't be a bad person; he must be hurt.
Frustrated, I shouted, "You're so naive, Elena. Stop being foolish! The guy hurt several people. And you can't go around defending everyone."
As we argued, the aggressor stirred and got up, brandishing the scalpel and stabbing Elena's abdomen. My blood boiled, the woman I loved was in danger. I couldn't think of anything else; I shot the aggressor about three times, blood splattering on Elena's face. I was so angry. When I start killing, I can't stop.
Elena was terribly frightened, looking at me with her face covered in blood. She had seen me kill someone before, but never from such a close distance. She was frozen. I didn't want her to see me like this. Not like this. But I was angry, he hurt her. Can't she feel any anger toward this man, even now? Elena was pure. She can't be betraying me.
"Everything is spinning, Damon," she said. "I'm so tired after the surgery, and I had to deal with all this."
"Calm down, my love, I'm here, by your side," I replied, holding her hand tightly to reassure her. We needed to get her help.
She couldn't finish the sentence and passed out in my arms. I caressed her hair and checked her pulse. She was unconscious but alive. I checked the wound, and it was severe. The damn guy had hit my angel.
My God, don't let anything happen to Elena. I know I don't deserve it. I carried her quickly and rushed to get help,
threatening anyone who crossed my path.
