Chapter 32"Beginning of a feeling "
**Damon. **
After everything that happened, I felt relief knowing that Elena was out of danger. Knowing that my blood had helped save her was a comfort, and the coincidence of us having the same blood type seemed like destiny's hand at play.
Despite my disdain for Marcos, it was impossible not to recognize that he also played an important role in expediting the treatment. The nurses seemed to take an eternity to take action, but fortunately, thanks to his intervention, things got resolved.
I anxiously waited for news about Elena in the clinic's waiting room. I wanted to know if she was okay and if her health was stable. But time seemed to drag on, and the anxiety grew inside me in an indescribable way.
Finally, Marcos approached me with some medical records in hand to update me on Elena's condition.
— Elena is out of danger now — he said as he flipped through the medical records.
— Thank God. I was getting nervous already — I replied, relieved.
— And thanks to your rare blood as well — he added.
Elena was taken to a room to rest and receive the necessary medication since she was hit in a delicate area. I took care of her all the time, staying tirelessly by her side.
As I settled her into the bed, I watched her as she slept. She looked like an angel, and at that moment, I almost forgot everything that was happening around us. Just being there, next to Elena, was a great comfort.
Marcos also observed the scene but chose to leave the room in silence. Elena needed rest after losing a lot of blood and becoming weakened, so I stayed there, gently stroking her hair, thinking about everything that had happened. However, involuntarily, the concern that the woman I loved might be behind that treacherous email resurfaced. The idea of being betrayed by the person I loved hurt deeply, but at that moment, I just wanted to focus on her recovery.
Anxiety continued to consume me, particularly not knowing exactly what was going on. I longed for the moment when Elena would wake up, and I could be sure she was well and safe.
Marcos approached me slowly, and he stared at me, and I stared back, trying to understand what he intended.
— You know that your identity could put Elena's life at risk, right? This was just the tip of the iceberg compared to what she might go through in the future. — he said.
— What? — I said, surprised. — I don't understand what you're insinuating. He looked at me suspiciously.
— Well, it's just that... — he stuttered — You have a weapon, so I deduced that obviously, you're not an ordinary person and must be involved with a gang or something like that.
I didn't respond to him; I didn't know what he meant, to be honest. I just knew I would investigate this guy; he seemed to know much more than a simple doctor would.
Anxiety continued to consume me, mainly because of not knowing exactly what was happening. I wanted Elena to wake up soon so I could see her with my own eyes and be sure she was well. My desire was to protect her from everything and everyone, but I knew I couldn't always do that.
As these mixed emotions invaded my mind, an internal conflict tormented me. On one hand, I wanted to fully trust Elena and believe she would never do anything to hurt me, but doubt and suspicion continued to hover in the depths of my heart. I wondered if there was something she wasn't telling me, or if I was just letting paranoia take over.
This storm of mixed feelings left me emotionally exhausted, but I needed to maintain the facade of being strong and protective, especially in front of Elena. I didn't want to burden her with my insecurities while she was recovering.
While I waited, Marcos began saying strange things again, and it only increased my suspicion of him. It was as if he knew something important and was trying to warn me in some way, but I wasn't sure what to do with that information. I could shoot him and sort it out, but Elena wouldn't forgive me for that.
**Elena narrating**
I woke up with flashbacks of what had happened, vividly recalling the moment when that patient's relative came at me with a scalpel. It was terrible, and just thinking about what he could have done to me sent a shiver down my spine. How could I be so naive to trust and believe in people?
As I woke up, I realized that Damon was by my side. The nurses told me he hadn't left my side for a minute. He must have been exhausted from being vigilant all the time. I needed to get up to go to the bathroom, and when I returned, there he was, still sleeping beside me. I felt a strong urge to go to the bathroom again, and it seemed I would need to do that soon. But even with all these needs, Damon seemed to always be there, taking care of me.
I watched him sleep and realized how handsome he was, even in his sleep. His black hair fell over his eyes, and his face had an angelic air about it. Damon was the kind of bad boy who could attract any woman, and at the same time, his seriousness and mystery made him irresistible. It was hard to resist him, and I found myself thinking about what could happen between us.
But I needed to be careful. He was a complicated person, and the doubt about his intentions still haunted me. However, even with all my insecurities, I felt that he had a good heart deep down, and that intrigued me.
Now that the effects of the surgery and anesthesia were wearing off, my mind was clearing up, and the reality of the events hit me hard. I knew I couldn't be naive about anyone, but I also didn't want my distrust to push Damon away.
When he finally woke up, he told me about the blood transfusion he had to receive. It was then that I realized he had been the donor. His blood was the same rare blood type as mine. He did it for me, and gratitude filled my heart.
— You didn't have to do that, Damon. — I thanked him with a smile but also with a mix of uncertainty.
He seemed a little taken aback but spoke sincerely:
— It just happened that we have the same blood type, so I gave you the transfusion. And I would do it a million times more for you.
His eyes met mine, and I felt there was something special between us. The way he cared for me, how he protected me, no matter the cost, stirred something unique within me. It was hard to ignore what I felt for him, but it was also complicated to let my guards down completely.
As the conversation continued, I realized he saw qualities in me that I didn't always recognize. He called me wonderful and kind, and his words made me smile but also made me feel shy.
— You can be a bit silly sometimes — he said with a gentle smile — but you're a wonderful silly.
While Damon slept again, I stroked his hair, feeling a mixture of gratitude and confusion toward him. It seemed like fate had somehow brought us together, but I still wondered if I should trust him completely.
— Why did you marry a silly person like me? — I asked, curious about his answer.
He looked at me intensely, as if searching
for the right words to respond.
— Because you're unique, Elena. And I really like you, with all your imperfections and qualities. I don't need you to be perfect, just to be yourself.
His words warmed my heart, and the connection between us seemed to grow stronger. I knew I needed to be cautious, but I couldn't deny that I was beginning to develop feelings for him.
