Chapter 29 ""The Storm of Emotions"
**Elena narrating:**
I left without saying goodbye to Damon; I was very sad and upset with him for suspecting me. I don't know why or what the reason was, but it hurt me deeply. Tears fell automatically from my eyes as I drove. I couldn't understand why so many things were happening all at once in my life.
I've suffered so much in all these years of life. First, I grew up in an orphanage without love, without parents, without anyone. I never knew what it was like to wake up and have breakfast with my real family. Then, I meet Damon, and he creates this avalanche in my life. I don't even understand the purpose of all this, but I'll trust that everything will pass soon.
If Damon wants to doubt me, okay. I have nothing to hide from him, and my conscience is clear. The only reason I saved him is because I'm just stupid like that.
I arrived at the clinic. I got out of the car and said good morning to the driver who took me there. I didn't like to be rude to anyone; I dreaded that, actually. I know Damon always leaves someone to watch over me, and that's not living, honestly.
I wiped my eyes from crying. Yes, I cried, and I'm feeling bad, but this too shall pass; everything in life passes one day.
The clinic was busy today.
I entered and didn't know how to handle seeing Marcos, but I would try to act as professional as possible. I didn't want to mix work with what he feels for me. That doesn't even make sense, really.
I was wearing heels. I went to the office, took my sneakers out of my bag, and put them on to work comfortably, of course.
I checked what I had to do today; some patients were stable. I gave medications to some, did check-ups. Everything was going well.
It was time for a break, and I went to eat a fruit salad at the cafeteria. From afar, I could hear a commotion; it seemed like a man was shouting and causing a scene in the waiting room. I went there to see what was going on; that's all I needed, for God's sake. Can't this man see that this is a place of calm and peace?
"What's happening here?" I asked one of the nurses who were standing there, watching the commotion.
"This man is accusing someone of giving the wrong medications to his relative. Crazy, I don't know what goes on in the minds of these kinds of people."
"Who is his relative?"
"That one over there," the nurse showed me the patient's chart, and I knew who it was. In fact, I was the assistant doctor who took care of her case and personally gave her the correct medication. I'm not crazy. She died because her illness was already at an advanced stage.
"I was the one who gave the medications to this patient; I'll talk to him."
"Be careful, Dr. Elena, this man is crazy. I understand that he lost a family member, but to act like this... it's not rational."
"Don't worry. I'll talk to him and ask him to calm down. There's no reason for this scene here in the clinic. He must be upset over losing a family member, but he'll calm down soon enough."
I approached the man who was agitated, not understanding why he was acting like this. I had to resolve this; I couldn't allow a scene here in our clinic. I tried to patiently explain whatever it was, to explain that his relative died due to the advanced stage of the disease, and we did everything correctly.
"Sir, I came here to talk to you," I said, approaching him. "I understand that you're sad; losing someone is always difficult, but I was the assistant doctor who took care of your relative, and I did everything correctly. We have proof that she unfortunately passed away because her condition was already too complicated. We tried everything possible to prevent her death."
The man glared at me, and he was furious. He didn't seem to want to talk, quite the opposite. I was scared, but I held my ground. I sat on a chair because my blood pressure was starting to drop due to nerves.
Suddenly, an nurse passing by with a tray of surgical instruments grabbed a scalpel and pressed it against another nurse's neck, threatening to cut it.
Tempers were flaring up; the man was threatening the nurse.
I stood up and explained again what had happened, that we followed all the correct procedures, and that if he didn't stop, we would have to call the police. I didn't know if someone had already called the police. The nurse was terrified, and understandably so. My God, help us. I explained the patient's condition for the thousandth time. It was then when he said that he didn't trust me or anyone in this hospital. He tried to attack me with the scalpel.
Other people in the clinic tried to restrain him and make him realize what had really happened, but without success. I was scared, and so was everyone else. Why hasn't anyone called the police yet, my God?
I saw Marcos running towards me to help, and I was so worried. As soon as Marcos got close to the man, he threw him to the ground and injured him with the scalpel in the arm. By now, I was already crying, worried about what could happen next. The man ran towards me again, surely intending to harm me.
That's when I heard that husky voice echoing in the room.
"What the hell is going on here?" Damon appeared, with a serious and determined expression. His imposing presence seemed to calm things down a bit, but the tension was still palpable in the air.
