Chapter 103 Threat
Chapter 103 Threat
Evelyn sat comfortably in the bedroom, the soft pastel walls creating a soothing atmosphere. She gently cradled her twins, Dante and Dimitri, to her chest, their tiny hands grasping at her as they fed.
The quiet hum of the room was interrupted only by the occasional contented sigh from the babies.
Dominic stood nearby, his expression distant and troubled. He watched Evelyn with their sons, his love for them evident, but the worry in his eyes was unmistakable. Evelyn noticed his demeanor and softly called his name.
“Dominic?”
He looked up, snapping out of his thoughts, and she signaled for him to come closer. He obeyed, leaning in to peck her lips gently before kissing each of his sons on their tiny foreheads.
“What’s wrong? Why do you look so stressed?”
Evelyn asked, her voice filled with concern.
Dominic shook his head, attempting a smile.
“It’s nothing, Evelyn. Don’t worry about it.”
Evelyn frowned, knowing him too well to be fooled. Before she could press further, there was a knock on the door, and her mother walked in carrying a bowl of soup.
“Here, Evelyn. You need to keep your strength up,”
her mother said, placing the bowl on the bedside table.
Evelyn made a face, not wanting to drink the soup. Seeing her reluctance, her mother turned to Dominic.
“Dominic, help her drink this, please.”
Evelyn set her jaw stubbornly.
“I’ll drink it, but only if Dominic tells me what’s bothering him.”
Her mother raised an eyebrow but nodded in agreement. Dominic sighed, knowing he couldn’t keep it from her any longer.
He took the bowl and sat down beside her, holding the spoon to her lips. Evelyn took a reluctant sip, her eyes never leaving his.
“It’s about Angelina,”
Dominic finally said, his voice low.
“ we don’t know where she is. But we found a clue who helped Angelina run away from hospital and its none other than Kaia ”
Evelyn’s eyes widened with shock, the weight of his words sinking in. She could see the strain this was putting on him, and despite the worry gnawing at her, she forced herself to remain calm for his sake.
“ I’m worried Kaia might harm her “
“I’m so sorry, Dom,”
she said softly, reaching out to squeeze his hand.
“We’ll find her. We’ll get through this together.”
Dominic nodded, his expression softening as he looked at his wife and children.
“Thank you, Evelyn. I just didn’t want to burden you with this right now.”
Evelyn smiled faintly, taking another sip of the soup.
“We’re in this together, remember? No secrets.”
Her mother watched the exchange with a gentle smile, glad to see the bond between them. Evelyn continued to drink the soup, feeling a little more at ease knowing they were facing their challenges as a family.
The living room buzzed with lively conversation as Caleb and Jack sat at the center, deeply engrossed in a game of chess.
The rest of the family and friends watched, offering playful commentary and occasional advice. Evelyn sat on the couch, holding her twins close, feeling a rare moment of peace amidst the laughter and warmth that filled the room.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, causing everyone to look up. Ethan, eager to break away from the intense chess match, got up to answer the door.
Moments later, he returned, holding a small box in his hands.
“This was sent for Evelyn,”
he announced, a note of curiosity and concern in his voice.
Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat. The sudden, mysterious delivery unsettled her, and she could see the alarm mirrored in both Alex’s and Dominic’s eyes.
Dominic quickly moved to take the box from Ethan, his expression darkening as he inspected it.
“Be careful,”
Alex warned, stepping closer to get a better look.
Dominic cautiously opened the box, and the sight inside made everyone gasp. The box was filled with nails and what appeared to be blood, a gruesome and threatening message.
Evelyn instinctively tightened her hold on her sons, fear gripping her heart.
“Oh my God,”
she whispered, her voice trembling.
“Who would do something like this?”
Dominic closed the box, his jaw set with determination and anger.
“Someone trying to scare us,”
he said, his voice steady despite the fury in his eyes.
“But we won’t let them.”
Alex placed a reassuring hand on Dominic’s shoulder.
“We’ll figure out who’s behind this. We need to stay calm and be cautious.”
Caleb and Jack abandoned their game, moving to join the growing circle around the box.
“Do you think it’s connected to Angelina?”
Jack asked, his face tense with worry.
Dominic nodded grimly.
“It’s possible. We need to be on high alert. Whoever did this wants to intimidate us.”
Evelyn looked around the room, seeing the concern etched on everyone’s faces. Her family and friends had always been her strength, but now, they all seemed vulnerable to this unseen threat.
She felt a surge of protectiveness for her twins, holding them even closer.
“We’ll get through this together,”
she said, her voice gaining strength.
“We need to stay united and vigilant.”
Her mother moved to sit beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
“We’re here for you, Evelyn. We won’t let anything happen to you or the boys.”
Ethan, who had brought the box in, looked guilty.
“I should have checked it before bringing it inside. I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault,”
Dominic said firmly.
“We’ll handle this. We just need to be careful.”
The room fell silent, the weight of the situation settling over them. Despite the fear and uncertainty, there was a palpable sense of solidarity.
Dominic had tightened security around their home, and Alex was on high alert, meticulously checking every corner of the apartment.
Evelyn watched as everyone moved with purpose, their focus entirely on ensuring the safety of their family.
A pang of guilt gnawed at her, knowing they were all doing this because of the threat directed at her and her children.
She was sitting on the couch, trying to keep her twins calm. Ethan sat beside her, his presence a comforting anchor.
He picked up Dimitri, who gurgled happily, making Evelyn giggle despite the tension.
Dante was peacefully sleeping on his father’s chest, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she watched the serene moment.
Suddenly, Evelyn’s phone rang, the sound startling in the tense atmosphere. She frowned as she saw the unknown number on the screen. Hesitating for a moment, she answered the call.
“Hello?”
she said, her voice cautious.
A chilling voice responded, dripping with menace.
“If you want your sons to stay safe, you’ll do exactly as I say.”
Evelyn’s blood ran cold, her grip on the phone tightening. Ethan, sensing the change in her demeanor, quickly put the call on speaker.
The room fell silent as everyone listened.
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with,”
the voice continued.
“One wrong move, and your precious boys will suffer.”
Dominic’s face darkened with rage, his eyes flashing with fury.
“Who the hell are you?”
he demanded, his voice a dangerous growl.
“If you touch my family, I will find you, and you will regret it.”
The voice on the other end chuckled darkly.
“Big words, Mr. Knight. Let’s see if you can back them up.”
Evelyn’s heart pounded in her chest, the fear and helplessness overwhelming her. Ethan held Dimitri closer, his jaw set in anger.
Caleb, Jack, and the rest of the family exchanged worried glances, the gravity of the threat sinking in.
“You have 24 hours to comply,”
the voice said.
“Or your sons will pay the price.”
With that, the call abruptly ended.
Dominic slammed his fist against the wall, a string of curses escaping his lips.
“We need to find this bastard,”
he said, his voice filled with determination and fury.
Alex nodded, already on his phone, making calls to gather information.
“We’ll trace the call and track him down. We won’t let him get away with this.”
Evelyn clutched her sons tightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
“I’m so sorry,”
she whispered, her voice breaking.
“This is all because of me.”
Dominic was by her side in an instant, pulling her into a fierce embrace.
“No, Evelyn. This is not your fault. We will protect our family. I promise you.”
Ethan, holding Dimitri close, looked at her with determination.
“We’re all in this together, Evelyn. We’ll get through this.”
As the family rallied around her, a sense of resolve filled the room. They would face this threat head-on, united and unwavering.
Evelyn took a deep breath, finding strength in the love and support of those around her. They would protect their family, no matter the cost.
