Chapter 67 The unspoken truth
Melissa stood at the entrance of the grand palace, her heart heavy with worry. Alpha Avalor had informed her that a war was brewing in the supernatural world, and he had to leave to protect their kind. He had asked Melissa to stay in the palace for her safety, but the thought of being separated from him filled her with a sense of dread.
As Alpha Avalor prepared to leave, Melissa couldn't help but feel a sense of panic. She had come to love him deeply, and the thought of being without him was unbearable. But she also understood the importance of his duty and the need to protect their kind.
Alpha Avalor held Melissa's hands, his gaze filled with love and concern. "Melissa, I know this is difficult for you, but I promise to return to you as soon as I can. Please stay in the palace, where you will be safe. I don't want anything to happen to you."
Tears welled up in Melissa's eyes as she nodded, her voice choked with emotion. "I understand, Alpha Avalor. I will stay here and wait for your return. Just promise me that you will come back to me."
Alpha Avalor pulled Melissa into a tight embrace, his voice filled with determination. "I promise, Melissa. I will do everything in my power to come back to you. You are my everything, and I can't bear the thought of being without you."
With a heavy heart, Melissa watched as Alpha Avalor disappeared into the night, leaving her alone in the palace. She felt a sense of emptiness without him by her side, but she knew that she had to stay strong and wait for his return.
Days turned into weeks, and Melissa found solace in the palace. She spent her time exploring the grand halls and gardens, immersing herself in the beauty of the supernatural world. But no matter how much she tried to distract herself, her thoughts always returned to Alpha Avalor.
One evening, as Melissa stood on the balcony overlooking the palace grounds, she couldn't shake off the feeling of restlessness. She longed to be by Alpha Avalor's side, fighting alongside him in the war. But she knew that she had to respect his wishes and stay in the palace.
As she gazed at the moonlit sky, a thought crossed Melissa's mind. She could escape from the palace and return to the human realm. She could leave behind the supernatural world and the pain of being separated from Alpha Avalor. But as the thought lingered, she realized that she couldn't bring herself to do it.
Melissa had slowly begun to love Alpha Avalor, and the thought of leaving him behind was unbearable. She had found a sense of belonging and happiness in the supernatural world, and she couldn't let fear dictate her decisions once again.
With renewed determination, Melissa made up her mind. She would stay in the palace and wait for Alpha Avalor's return. She would support him from afar and pray for his safety. And most importantly, she would hold onto the love they had found, knowing that it would give her strength during the difficult times ahead.
Weeks turned into months, and the war raged on in the supernatural world. Melissa received occasional updates from the palace guards, who informed her of Alpha Avalor's bravery and leadership in the battle. Each piece of news filled her with a mix of pride and worry.
One day, as Melissa was walking through the palace gardens, she heard a commotion at the entrance. She rushed towards the sound and was met with the sight of Alpha Avalor, battered and bruised, but alive.
Tears of relief streamed down Melissa's face as she ran towards him, throwing her arms around him. "You're back! You're safe!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with joy and gratitude.
Alpha Avalor held Melissa tightly, his own eyes filled with tears. "I promised you I would come back, and I always keep my promises. I couldn't bear the thought of being without you."
—
As the days passed, Melissa's pregnancy began to show. She noticed the subtle changes in her body, the slight curve of her belly, and the gentle flutter of life inside her. But she couldn't bring herself to tell Alpha Avalor the truth.
Melissa knew that her pregnancy would only worry him further and distract him from his duties. She didn't want to burden him with her own fears and concerns. She wanted him to focus on leading their kind and protecting them in the ongoing war.
Despite her efforts to hide her pregnancy, Melissa couldn't escape the physical symptoms that came with it. She experienced bouts of morning sickness and fatigue, often retreating to her chambers to rest and recover. But she made sure to put on a brave face whenever she was in the presence of Alpha Avalor.
Alpha Avalor, however, couldn't help but notice the changes in Melissa. He observed her moments of fatigue and the occasional signs of discomfort. His concern grew with each passing day, but he respected Melissa's decision to keep her condition a secret.
One evening, as they sat together in the palace's grand library, Alpha Avalor couldn't contain his curiosity any longer. He gently placed his hand on Melissa's, his eyes filled with a mix of worry and affection.
"Melissa, my love, I can't help but notice that something is different about you. Are you... are you pregnant?" he asked softly, his voice tinged with hope and uncertainty.
Melissa's heart skipped a beat at his question, and she felt a surge of conflicting emotions. She wanted to share the news with him, to celebrate their growing family together. But at the same time, she couldn't bear the thought of adding to his worries.
With a forced smile, Melissa shook her head and replied, "No, Alpha Avalor, I'm not pregnant. I've just been feeling a bit under the weather lately, but it's nothing to worry about. I'll be fine."
