Chapter 57 Mix of confusion
Melissa's eyes widened in shock, and she turned to Alpha Russel, her voice filled with urgency. "See, Alpha Russel? This is what I've been trying to tell you. Lucas has been tormenting me, and I don't understand why."
Alpha Russel's eyes darted between Melissa and Lucas, his expression a mix of confusion and concern. "Lucas, is what she's saying true? Have you been following her?"
Lucas hesitated for a moment, his gaze shifting. Then, he nodded reluctantly. "Yes, it's true. I couldn't stand the thought of her escaping, of leaving our realm. I wanted to make sure she would stay."
Alpha Russel's face contorted with anger as he glared at Lucas. "You foolish boy! How dare you take matters into your own hands and torment Melissa? She is no longer your mate, she belongs to Alpha Avalor now. And let me remind you, Avalor is known for his ruthlessness."
Lucas's shoulders slumped, his gaze filled with remorse. "I... I didn't mean to cause harm, Father. I just couldn't bear the thought of losing her."
Alpha Russel's voice grew colder as he continued, "Your actions have consequences, Lucas. You have not only disobeyed me, but you have also jeopardized our relationship with Alpha Avalor. This is a serious matter that will require a resolution."
Melissa watched the exchange, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and hope. She knew that the situation had taken a significant turn, but she couldn't predict what would happen next.
Alpha Russel turned his attention back to Melissa, his voice firm but less stern than before. "Melissa, I apologize for my son's behavior. Rest assured that I will deal with him accordingly. As for your claims about Alpha Avalor, I am inclined to believe you now. We will investigate the truth behind his coma and the letter he supposedly sent."
Melissa let out a sigh of relief, grateful that Alpha Russel was finally willing to listen and take action. She knew that her escape plan had been put on hold, but she also understood that the truth needed to be uncovered before any further action could be taken.
Just then, a messenger burst into the study, interrupting the tense atmosphere. "Alpha Russel, urgent news has arrived," the messenger announced, breathless.
“What’s the urgent news about?” Alpha Russel asked in panic.
“Alpha Avalor is on his way here with soldiers.” The messenger said.
Melissa's eyes widened in disbelief as she heard the news. Alpha Avalor was on his way to the werewolf realm? How was that possible? She had seen him in a coma with her own eyes, and now he had regained consciousness and returned so quickly?
Alpha Russel's face turned pale, his voice filled with both shock and anger. "This cannot be! Melissa, are you playing some sort of game? How could Alpha Avalor be on his way here when he was supposedly in a coma?"
Melissa's heart raced, her mind racing to make sense of the situation. She hadn't lied about what she had seen. Alpha Avalor was indeed in a coma when she stumbled upon him in the human realm. But now, with the news of his imminent arrival, everything seemed to be turned upside down.
Just then, the study door swung open, and Alpha Avalor himself walked in, flanked by a group of soldiers. His gaze locked with Melissa's, and there was a mix of relief and determination in his eyes.
"Alpha Russel, I apologize for the intrusion," Alpha Avalor spoke, his voice firm and commanding. "I have indeed regained consciousness and returned to the werewolf realm. There was a misunderstanding, and I need to speak with you immediately."
Melissa's heart pounded as Alpha Avalor's presence filled the room. Alpha Russel looked taken aback, but he quickly regained his composure and gestured for everyone else to leave the study.
Once they were alone, Alpha Avalor's gaze bore into Alpha Russel's, his voice low and menacing. "Alpha Russel, I must warn you. You made a grave mistake by imprisoning Melissa and treating her as a prisoner. I had everything under control, and your actions endangered not only her but our alliance."
Alpha Russel's face paled, and his voice trembled slightly. "Alpha Avalor, I apologize. I didn't know the truth of your situation, and I acted in what I believed was the best interest of our realm."
Alpha Avalor's eyes narrowed, his voice filled with a mix of anger and authority. "You should have trusted my judgment. I had a plan in place to protect Melissa, and now that plan has been compromised. I demand that you release her immediately and ensure her safety."
Alpha Russel nodded hastily, his voice filled with fear. "Of course, Alpha Avalor. I will release her at once and ensure that she is protected. I apologize for my actions."
Alpha Avalor's gaze remained intense as he warned, "This is your only chance, Alpha Russel. I will not tolerate any harm coming to Melissa. If anything happens to her, our alliance will be broken, and the consequences will be severe."
Alpha Russel's face paled even further, and he nodded frantically. "I understand, Alpha Avalor. I will make sure she is safe and well taken care of."
With that, Alpha Avalor turned and walked out of the study, leaving Alpha Russel in a state of fear and uncertainty. Melissa's heart raced as she processed what had just happened.
Alpha Avalor approached Melissa in her new quarters, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "Melissa, I am grateful that you are safe now. However, it is time for us to return to my pack. We need to leave this realm behind and ensure your safety."
Melissa's heart skipped a beat at the mention of leaving this territory . She had always dreamed of finding a place where she could belong, but now that the opportunity was presented to her, she couldn't help but feel a sense of apprehension. "Alpha Avalor, I... I appreciate your concern for my safety, but I don’t want to be with you.”
