Chapter 184 Stabbed heart
Chapter 184 Stabbed heart
The explosion slammed Melissa against one of the car's windshield and she felt the air knocked out of her as it did but she ignored the pain. If the explosion had occurred, and Richard and the others weren't here, doesn't that mean they were dead?
She rolled off the car and landed on her feet and then started to trot downward, her eyes glowing as she scanned throughout the mist for any sign of life. She didn't necessarily care about their assailants anymore. There was a more pressing matter at hand and her eyes darted around as she hurriedly limped forward.
Her leg had been twisted when the bomb wave flung her away, she however had no sense of pain or fatigue at the moment, her main controlling emotion was fear. She couldn't allow herself to believe that most of the people she's cared for in the past few months had just died due to an explosion they set up themselves.
She was still trying to sheleve away the thought when darkness swirled to her left and Richard appeared with a handful of people, including Hashar, Jacob and a few other Sentinels. Melissa exhaled and swallowed, she then rushed forward, glancing at Richard and the others.
She was about to reach him when she saw the countenance on his face, there was a look of surprise in her face and then he started towards her. She reduced her speed and it was at that ! moment her head cleared and she felt someone behind her. She turned back to see one of the bodyguards of the elderly man who had appeared earlier aiming a dagger on her back.
Due to her earlier frightened state, she'd switched off her ability involuntarily, she'd made everything else null and void. The dagger was about to strike right through her when someone came between them and the knife went through the person's body. She could hear the squelching of flesh as steel cut through it. The person dropped to the ground in thud and Avalors was standing face to face with Melissa, blood in his mouth and a smile on his face.
Melissa bulged her eyes out and shrunk backwards immediately, the man was barely breathing and sne could hear her heartbeat fading away. Richard intercepted the attacker and pushed him off; he spun around immediately and searched for Avalors' wound. The knife was still there embedded in his chest, it was a stab to his heart directly.
Richard looked at Melissa. “He will die without medical attention,” he replied.
“Then take him away,” Melissa replied.
Richard glanced at the elderly man and his squad of neatly suited bodyguards. They were all dangerous looking, there was no way he could leave them alone to this. He couldn't sacrifice the life of many for that of Avalors. Using his powers to travel such a distance might reduce his ability to fight and even with him at full strength he wasn't sure he would be enough to take on that squad.
All of them were hybrids of sorts, he could smell it in them, they were different and not in a good kind of way. They all felt out of place and misappropriated. The entire suit and all is just a way to cover their actual flaws. They were not natural in any way.
“I am sorry Melissa, I am not leaving, the variables do not add up,” he said.
“This is an order Richard,” she replied. “You will obey me!” She replied in a deranged tone.
Richard shook his head. “I will protect you and everyone else here, that is my mission,” he said.
“And let him die?” She asked. “Isn't he one of the people you have to protect?”
“Yeah, and that is why I will give him a chance of survival,” he said. “The blade is laced with wolfsbane and that is what is stopping him from healing,” he then brought the pill Nathaniel had given him. He shoved it into Nathaniel's mouth and the old wolf readily swallowed it.
“I will remove the knife now, keep applying pressure on it and keep trying to kick start his heart if it feels like it's fading. Buy him three minutes Melissa, I don't care how you do it,” he fooled around and Luna set to work.
Richard on the other hand turned around and flared his claws, the squad consisted of seven creatures and the old man that'd followed them, a familiar face to everyone. It was Greyhound, he'd lied about everything and he was currently chuckling.
“You know I feel your pain,” he said. “I was right there in front of you all and you still always missed me, you were always blind to the truth and blinded by your own beliefs,” he said.
Richard flexed his claws and readied himself. “Demon wolf,” Greyhound snickered. “You couldn't take any one of them and you think you can take on seven?” He chuckled and walked forward. “This is your end, and what did you gain, you managed to blow up a faction that we were planning on abandoning soon anyway. Your kingdom will fall just like others before it and we will be there to transform it into a new path,” he said.
“You think transformation is what you are doing?” He asked. “You are trying to cause a war that will kill millions of people just so you can offer them up as sacrifices for your deranged nonexistent god,” Richard spat back.
“That is what I am willing to call a sacrifice, a necessary evil. I mean you were willing to just kill thousands of people working in the lab just now, because you were averaged to their views. I
We are merely seizing control of an already deformed world trying to usher it into a new light,” he smiled.
Richard snickered. “I know you are just a lacky, where is your actual master who runs the Oracle. Is he too much of a coward to come out of hiding?” Richard gloated.
Beatrice walked forward and tilted her head. “They are all cowards, they need a thousand augmentation to stand on the same ground we do. They run and hide in the shadows because deep down they are all just a bunch of scared little rats,” she said.
“Gloating will not work on me,” Greyhound said.
“Well it worked on me,” a voice said from inside one of the cars and someone stepped out. Richard gasped as Harkov Dunham stepped out of the car with a smile on his face. “I am the one you are looking for,” he said.
