Chapter 183 Checkmate.

Chapter 183 Checkmate.
Melissa wasn't in her peak condition but the adrenaline for survival was keeping her moving. Currently they were a few meters away from the parked car but the problem was that they had only an open space, covered with mist between them and the cars. They can barely make out the car in the far distance and Richard was sure he could hear the heartbeat of about two to three snipers laying in wait for them.
“They shouldn't be able to see us, the mist,” Melissa suggested.
Richard glanced at her and gave her the condescending look he does when he thinks she isn't thinking right. “If you were a sniper stationed to kill people in a misty area what would be the first thing you'd do?” He asked her.
“Find a way to make sure I can see the entire mist,” she replied. P
He nodded, “I am sure their weapon runs on infrared and would be able to pick up the slightest heat signal,” he said.
Melissa nodded. “Nice deduction, what the hell are we gonna do to cross, mind you I am not interested in getting shot nor do I want the blood of the demon wolf splattered on me,” she said.
“Your mouth is getting sharper by the moment,” he said with a snicker.
She scoffed and rolled her eyes. The whole argument with him was an attempt to try to keep herself going because she was starting to feel lightheaded. “What do we do?”
“We wait,” Loku replied.
“For what?” She replied.
He held his hand up and just stood there and then Melissa heard his comms give off a radio signal then someone spoke through it. “Your innate abilities are due in ten seconds. Once you have it back, everyone has only three minutes to evacuate the buildings. It is going to be a sinkhole afterwards,” Beateice's voice said through the comms.
Richard glanced at Melissa and then they both started at each other with a smile. Richard threw his gun into the mist. “We have to take down those snipers. Not everyone here can use innate abilities. We need this place safe for passage,” he ordered.
Melissa however was feeling really drowsy when she answered. She just nodded and was about to drop to the ground when a surge of power hit her. She paused for a moment and felt her innate power come back to her after all this while. It felt exhilarating.
“Let's go come on,” Richard screamed as they rushed out of the area and a sniper bullet made its way towards them. Melissa didn't think twice before smacking it away with her hand. She had gotten really good with her danger awareness and she was also more powerful than she'd ever been. This was due to the fact that she had this power within her, sealed for some reason.
She sprinted forward as Loku warped from her side but she kept running, her priority was herself at the moment. It wasn't out of selfishness but she knew that without her they couldn't complete the mission and also she was beginning to understand her importance as queen.
It wasn't just because she was Luna and whether she was ruling or not, it was a symbol. She was the most powerful entity in the entire kingdom, if she can be killed easily then the kingdom in itself is weak. She pushed forward as another bullet swished through the air towards her but she wasn't in the mood to tolerate any nonsense, she rolled forward, the bullet swerving above her and she kept on sprinting.
She could hear a grunt from her side and she knew Richard was on the snipers now. He'd found their location, it wasn't long before her guess was confirmed. “Melissa, your road is clear, keep going, I am going back for the others,” he said, he knew she would be able to hear him regardless the distance has her abilities were piqued at the moment
“Remember we have three minutes,” she replied.
“See you in three minutes,” he said and she nodded pushing forward.
She exited the misty area and at last she was at the cars parked. She exhaled and rested against one of the cars. She met Beatrice and Clarissa waiting, the council woman sighed upon seeing her. She stared at her for a while and they just smiled at each other before they walked and hugged each other.
“I thought you were dead,” Beatrice said. “I heard your scream and thought that was it,” she said.
“I am sorry for making you worry,” she replied, hugging her one more time. “Is the plan moving forward?” She asked.
“Yes, we managed to incapacitate the councilors from Vance and the castle is also stable. The councilors are working well with us, they know the level of threat out there,” she informed.
Melissa nodded. “But do you think this is really the place where they have their actual organization? I mean why would this place be the ground zero for their operations… it is so close to the castle,” she said.
“Infernal knows their leader very well and they both have history here,” she replied.
Melissa nodded. “I know it just feels weird, what is this place?” She asked.
“I don't know, but whatever happened here, it wasn't for the faint of heart,” Beateice replied, glancing around.
She then noticed that Clarissa was gone, she turned with furrowed brows and then she saw a man in a tailored suit holding Clarissa by the throat with his claws out. Beatrice hadn't sensed his movement at all. “Who are you?” She said and started to breathe sequentially allowing the air to go colder with each breath.
“Use that damn power, I dare you and I will allow him to tear her neck out, ear to ear,” a voice said from behind them.
Melissa and Beatrice turned back and an elderly man walked forward with three bodyguards in perfectly tailored suits beside him. “Checkmate,” he smiled.
Just as he said this an explosion sounded and its wave sent the motor's glasses crashing. The wave flung everyone off their feet.
