Chapter 146 Brainwashed
Nathaniel took a few breathers as he sat down, exhaustion written all over his face. He drank a few gulps of water and then exhaled. Melissa and Richard sat in front of him, giving him all the time in the world to recover.
The nurses had started to rearrange the entire hospital wing that Theresa had trashed. Melissa could never have thought she had such violence within her. Even when she knew she was a member of the Oracle, she always had a gentle allure to herself.
"She was unconscious when he placed down here," Nathaniel began, breathing haphazardly.
"Calm down first," Richard said. "Take your time."
Melissa chuckled. Nathaniel was just a genius and a businessman, he was obviously not cut for combat. The fact that it had taken the entire hospital to pin Theresa down and how she and her mate had knocked her out in just a few seconds made her grateful for everything Beatrice and Richard had taught her.
"No… no," Nathaniel said, exhaling again. "I am fine now, all is well." He clarified, though he was clearly still out of breath, but the duo didn't say anything at all.
"I had to look for a specific anti-venom to stop the poison in her bloodstream. She was infected by a specific kind of creature. Were you guys outside the continent?" He asked.
"No." Melissa replied. "A genetically engineered Werewolf slashed her, " she said.
"Genetically engineered werewolf?" Nathaniel glanced at both of them. "What the hell are you talking about?" He said.
"Just continue," Richard replied.
"No, that calls for a pause," he protested. "Genetic engineering isn't a trifle thing, who the hell is giving the venom of a reptile to a werewolf," he said. "That is impossible, considering a lot of science bullshit I won't bore you with."
"There might have been magical engineering too," Melissa added softly.
"Magic?" He relaxed. "Now that's a possibility," he said.
He sat down in his chair and went mute for a while before starting to talk. "Okay. Someone brainwashed her, and I think they did it magically too," he said. "And it was my curiosity that led me to the entire mental breakdown." He said.
"So you mean, you caused all this?" Melissa asked.
"In a way," he said, gritting his teeth. "It wasn't on purpose… I just… was a little curious," he said, smiling awkwardly.
Melissa smiled and glanced at Richard.
"What made you curious though?" Richard asked.
"I was just doing a normal body checkup when I scanmed her brain and I discovered a large chunk of it was missing… completely, replaced with cybernetic implants. At first, I thought someone saved her life, so I wanted to copy the data and suddenly, an emergency button kicked in and she woke up trying to kill me," Nathaniel said.
Melissa exhaled. "Okay. I need you at the palace with me. There is one more person that might need you. Tell your people to make sure they keep Theresa strapped in all times," she said. "Don't let her loose, or let her escape."
"She is heavily sedated and we already plan to keep her that way for as long as we can before dealing permanent damage and that is over a month," he smiled.
Melissa nodded and Nathaniel got up immediately to set the hospital in order before coming back to his office. While he was at this, Melissa had her head placed on Richard's shoulder as they both reminisced the entire week in silence.
Melissa was stressed out but she knew the worst was still to come. She needed to contact the other packs about The Oracle. To do this would be hard considering she didn't know how deep the whole conspiracy was, hell their kings might have fallen and the Oracle might be in control.
She exhaled again and she felt Richard's weight shift, so she glanced at him with a smile. At least, with him around things always seem to reach a lovely conclusion.
"We are gonna be okay, " he said with a smile. "I knew with my abilities and power, I meant something more and you… you were brought back from the dead, sure it wasn't just to play around and smile. We were all made for this," he said. "So we will be okay. As long as we don't eat too much grapes, "he added and Melissa elbowed him.
He grunted and she giggled.
"Must you always be annoying?" She rolled her eyes, it was true that she had been eating grapes all day since yesterday, but he didn't need to put it that way. She rolled her eyes completely before Nathaniel burst in disrupting their chemistry.
"We can leave now," he said, gesturing for them to head out while dangling his car keys.
Richard and Melissa looked at each other before the former casually just immersed them all in darkness and they appeared at the palace. Nathaniel gulped twice before running to the nearest window to throw up. Melissa and Richard could only laugh.
After he did that he made a face at the both of them before they led him to the hospital wing. When they reached there, very few well wishers were present as the entire town was on a lock down. Melissa suddenly heard two people scream, " your majesty!"
She turned around to the two familiar voices and smiled heartily. Vanessa and Candice rushed up to her and both of them tried hugging her but retracted and opted for bowing instead but Melissa was too happy to see them to care. She hugged them both tightly and they returned the affection.
When they released themselves, they could see the passers by stopping to check what was going on but she didn't care at all.
"They told us you disappeared from your room and we thought they were trying to hide the true message," Candice said, her eyes a little teary.
"I am okay, and I am glad you guys are too," she said. "Right now, I have to go," she said and they nodded, saying goodbye.
"Sir Richard, " they smiled at her mate who replied with the same warm smile. They took a glance at Nathaniel and regarded him with a straight face before both of them turned away..
She waved at them as they led Nathaniel away.
