Chapter 147 Unhealing
They led him into the hospital wing where only one man laid, unconscious. The heart monitor beeped sequentially as they walked into the room. Series of tubes were attached to the man as he breathed heavily through the oxygen mask that was attached to his nose.
Nathaniel took a peep at the man who was unconscious and he bulged his eyes. "That is…'' he pointed at the man and glanced back. "How… what…?" He paused. "You know what, I am going to do my job first, then I will start asking the questions I should be asking," he said, exhaling. "I need reports on his vitals and a report on what the hell in the world happened to him."
Richard turned around immediately and walked out of the ward. Melissa also glanced at the man's face, it's currently emotionless and peaceful allure made him seem like he was just an innocent aging man. But the Infernal was far from innocent and honestly, Melissa didn't think he was aging.
She narrated the events that had transpired to Nathaniel, leaving out subtle information, like the Oracle. She was already used to lying at this point that the half truth she spun rolled off her tongue like a series of ball bearings.
Nathaniel stared at her. "So you are saying you don't know what scared him like this?" He asked, pointing to the unconscious man.
"No," Melissa replied and this time it was the truth. When the doctors opened up his body, they could only yell. There were a series of slashes and cuts that had cut deep through him. They had diagnosed he should have been dead, so she couldn't even tell them that he'd murdered more than a dozen people in this sorry state.
When Melissa saw his wounds she'd almost thrown up. His entire chest had been sliced and clawed out as she could see small traces of his internal organs squirming underneath masses of open flesh. "The thing is,"Melissa said. "He isn't healing," she said. "As a werewolf, if he is not dead, he should be healing. He is not and he is not dying either. That is why I decided to bring you along, do you know what is wrong with him? Can you heal that?"
Nathaniel nodded in understanding and waited as Richard came back with the head doctor who regarded Nathaniel with a disdainful look. Melissa felt the entire emotion between Nathaniel and the head doctor change immediately. He didn't see him as a partner, no, he saw him as a threat.
The Head doctor was a bald man with a very fair skin and a full beard that seemed to have been polished and dyed. The beard was smooth and coily and it added to his allure. He stood roughly at six foot and five inches. If anyone had met him on the road, they would never have thought he was a doctor. He was wearing a pair of glasses and a white lab coat that made him appear like an action movie hero.
Melissa had just thought of bringing him on a whim , she hadn't even thought of it before and she also didn't think about what she was doing by bringing a professional genius doctor at the top of his trade to evaluate what another has done. There was gonna be enmity and it was unavoidable.
Melissa exhaled and stared at the two of them and she wanted to tell Nathaniel to follow her, but Richard held her. "Competition is good," he said.
She inhaled and decided to watch how this would go. "Good afternoon doctor…?" He extended a hand to the man while waiting for him to tell him his name.
"Rad. Milan Rad," he replied, both of them giving themselves fake smiles. "...and you are?"
"Nathaniel. Nathaniel the nameless," he said.
Melissa raised her eyes when he spoke, she didn't like the fact that he called himself that, it made him seem lesser than he really was.
"So what have you done with him so far?" Nathaniel asked with an authoritative tone.
"We have managed to stabilize him as you can see, but whatever is wrong with him… it is beyond medicine, maybe you…" he paused, looking Nathaniel in the eyes with a smile. " …can try to make your own inference, I will be very much obliged to provide you with the tools you'd be needing," Rad said with a smile.
Nathaniel smiled. "Making my own inference will be such a waste of time when a genius like you has already done all the work, " he said. "I am sure there is no way you could have missed anything."
"So, you want to see my report then?" Rad asked, tilting his head.
"Yes, if you wouldn't mind," Nathaniel said.
Melissa could feel their emotions subsiding a bit. Nathaniel had presented himself as lesser and helpless to the Luna's orders., which was a way to reduce the tension. It was to show that he knew nothing or else it would take forever for him to start working.
Doctor Milan Rad brought out a small electronic record keeper and handed it over to Nathaniel, who scanned it from top to bottom, he looked at Melissa and Richard with an inquisitive face, before glancing at Rad.
"Sure, speak on," Melissa said. He had been trying to ask if he could say anything in front of the doctor.
He exhaled and started. "These readings, they have the same close value as that other patient," he started. "They are scattered and unnatural,"he said and then turned to Rad. "Right?"
Rad nodded. "They spike and level at unnatural places. For example, his blood pressure is at three hundred and fifty. Only that should have ended his life."
"His heart is pounding however at two beats per minute," he said. "A very slow heart rate, high pressure, low blood in general. His readings are off and it matches hers," he scrolled down on the electronic recorder.
Melissa Nodded. " So you mean there is magic involved," Melissa asked.
Before any of the doctors could speak, a third female voice spoke. "Yes,"
Melissa and the others turned to the door with Arya and Hance standing there. "The kind of magic within him is called the Unhealing."
