Chapter 145 Insanity
Melissa sat down on the bed just staring at a blank space. She had just gone through a hundred medical check ups and she was already tired. They were still holding her in the hospital just to run more checks on her.
Series of doctors had flown from every corner of Dunham to attend to everyone. No one was really hurt, but still, there was a bit formality thrown into it. The news had circulated around the entire continent that a bunch of terrorists had tried to break into the most secure building in Dunham but had failed when Dunham's finest Sentinel unit unleashed their prowess on them.
Melissa could only cough when she saw the news. It was better than saying the Infernal had single handedly killed more than fifteen himself. The most surprising thing was that they didn't find any bodies, all they found were ashes and charred bones.
The Infernal was obviously a different breed from any other wolf. Melissa could now easily understand why he had such legendary status backing him. There were only a few wolves left that had such power backing them, and apart from him and Richard, it was hard to pinpoint any wolf with such raw ferocity.
Melissa's phone rang again and she could almost barf. She had been receiving so much calls from people that she'd gotten numb answering as saying, “Hello,” all the time. The Dunham family was a really big one and the amount of uncles and aunts that had changed their names and were married to someone else were more than she could count.
None of them had called or tried to show up to her parents’ funeral, they thought their house was broken. But now that she was barely wringing everything together with the sheer might of her friends, they wanted in on the whole thing again. All of them were greedy bastards and she wasn't interested in talking to any of them.
She flicked open her phone and to her surprise it wasn't an aunt. It was Nathaniel. She exhaled and pressed the reciever.
"Hello," she said.
"Hey… I think there is a little… static... we… sh… static ... sta…" the line kept breaking as he talked.
"Hello?" Melissa repeated.
Richard, who had been behind her on the bed, sat up and looked at her. He didn't say anything, telepathically or otherwise but she understood what he was saying perfectly. His face was inquisitive enough.
"Nath," she whispered and his face went blank.
"My lady?" Nathaniel's voice broke out again.
"Hey. What is going on?" She asked.
"Your patient is awake and stable. But she is unstable?" He said, and a loud crashing noise sounded from the background.
"What?" Melissa asked, confused.
Nathaniel's voice was as if he was taking a jog through the valley of the shadow of death. He had this urgency to his tone. "She is trying to kill us!" he blurted. "I want to request permission to neutralise her with lethal force." He said.
Melissa's eyes bulged. She looked at Richard, who was staring at her with a very blank expression. Her head started going into overdrive. Theresa was probably the best logical order to give, but it didn't sit right with her. After everything that Richard had told her, it was hard for her to make a decision now.
"Your majesty?" Nathaniel asked urgently.
"Don't! Just wait for me. I am coming now," she said.
"Yes, your majesty," he said and hung up.
Richard turned was staring at her with a blank expression and she grinned weirdly at him. "Sorry, I can't just order someone's death," she said at last.
"I am not complaining, I like that you hesitated," he said. "I am sorry for lashing out at you yesterday," he said. "I was a bit frightened by the possibility that you were…" he couldn't complete the sentence.
Melissa smiled and just wrapped her hands around his neck before giving him a kiss. "I understand how you were feeling and that you were looking out for me, but you didn't say anything wrong. I needed to hear that," she said with a smile.
He scoffed. "I guess since I am this handsome I can indeed get away with anything, " he said and she punched him immediatley. He grunted in pain before both of them burst inro a bout of laughter.
"Let us get Theresa," she said.
Richard nodded and Melissa felt the familiar darkness submerge them. They arrived at Nathaniel's hospital immediatley. The nurse standing at the reception table saw them and immediately made a call before gesturing for them to follow her.
They complied and they headed to the ward where Theresa was held down by two nurses, who were using their entire wolven strength and she was still gnashing and roaring.
"Let her go," Richard commanded and they instinctively complied.
Upon getting free, she roared and lungd at Richard. The demon wolf however struck her mid air with a devastating blow to the cheek as she crashed into the nearby hospital beds. She stood up almost immediatley and this time she picked Melissa. She dashed forward and made a swipe at Melissa.
The Luna however had been trained by Beatrice in the art of combat, so fighting off a crazy wolf was something that she could easily do. She stepped back, reeling a bit to dodge the swipe. She then made several quick jabs at her neck before pushing her forward with a knee kick. The latter staggered backwards and Richard held her, before throwing her off like a sack of potatoes. She smashed into the wall and lost consciousness.
Everyone exhaled and Nathaniel came out from under a bunk bed. "Your majesty, " he said. "Am I happy to see you and the demon wolf," he sighed.
Melissa glanced around and she could see a series of equipment on the floor. Beds were scattered and the door to the room had been broken off its hinges. "What the hell happened here?" She asked. The place looked like it had faced the wrath of multiple gods.
"The women. Someone had tampered with her brain, " he said while trying to even his breath.
