Chapter 114 Diplomat
It was a bright afternoon but the sun had decided to hide under the sheet of clouds, probably taking a sick day. The dampy weather of Dunham had been fluctuating for a while. There were times when the hot sun would attempt to bake the land and roast all things living on it, and there were times where it would even refuse to shine at all.
Normally, Dunham's climate was a dampy and wet one with lesser sun than ususal.
Melissa sat in the midst of her court, with the new addition, Margaret also present.
This was the first time they'd meet since they'd arrived at the castle. It was though, just two days off their scheduled time of meeting.
"Good afternoon, everyone," Avalors began the meeting with a clear and bouyant voice. He appeared younger than he usually was and vibrant too. He held in his hand a sheet of paper, poised to read from it as he greeted everyone with a bright smile..
Gossip among them was that the reason why Reybolds had been happy lately as because of Margaret's presence. Margaret had denied any involvement with Avalors with a scream and a harsh dismissal, thereby cementing and confirming their suspicion.
Avalors whisked the paper in his hand and began. "I will be making the first report today," he read out loud. "We had different quests set up last week for each and everyone of us and we had a hundred percent success rate," he said with a smile., then looked up. "Yeah, I understand we all felt a little down after the encounter with Hades and his lackeys. He was a tough obstacle, one we couldn't have guessed would find us or even come out in the open. It is rarely a setback, but an obstacle one we overcame," he began. "So I'd like to congratulate her majesty for getting the approval of the Council to become a Luna, the ceremony date will be fixed soon."
Everyone at the seat clapped their hands in a more cheerful way than Melissa had expected. She smiled sheepishly, bowing softly in return. She was elated to have the reins of the kingdom without questions at last. All she needed to do now was to focus on getting her council in line.
"About the Vance pack," Avalors paused to make certain that he'd gotten everyone's attention. "There were four spies of theirs that has been captured within the castle so far and they all are still alive but it is hard getting them to make a confession," he said.
"What good does a confession do?" Margaret asked with a lazy tone.
"We would be able to get recorded evidence against the Vance pack," Avalors explained.
"And then what?" Margaret asked again with a raised eye.
"Well, we will then be able to confront their king as to why he breached the agreement between the two countries," he said.
Beatrice shook her head, picking up from where Margaret stopped. "Her majesty, doesn't intend to make an enemy of the Vance pack, rather she wants to make them a friend, an ally," she said. "If we opt to trying to point fingers, we will be increasing our statistical strength but the trust between us will suffer," she countered.
Melissa understood the crux of the point Beatrice and Margaret were making; it was futile to try and get information from the spies as they wouldn't need to use them since she stated she wanted to use a diplomatic method instead. So mostly, anything that happened shouldn't be aired or used as a means to publicly admit that the Vance pack is a nuisance.
"Would it be easier if we just declare hostility with them?" Melissa leaned forward, asking her court. She'd decided to make sure they were in synch with all of her decisions and understand the reason that brought her to such verdict in the first place.
"Nothing is easy," Beatrice stated assertively, glaring in her direction. A look that told her she was heavily disappointed.
Melissa smiled. "I just wanted to know if we were all on the same page with this," she said.
"We are,"Avalors said. "How then should we approach the spies?" He asked.
"Leave them, do nothing. Make sure they are well fed and treated well," Margaret said. "We might return them back to the Vance pack," she said.
Melissa nodded, she'd guessed that would be the best direction to move towards. Since she had a diplomat now, it was really easier for her to just leave the issues with the Vance pack to her because Margaret was competent- scary competent even.
Avalors nodded and scribbled down some things. He nodded and then looked at them again. "The Vance pack had contacted the Council that their Alpha will be willing to pay Dunham a visit on the twenty third of this month. By my calculations, that is in two weeks," he said. "We already have a diplomat and a way to exploit them, we can have the Vance pack issue sorted in two weeks time if we can play our cards well," he concluded and sat down.
"Any additions?" Beatrice asked.
Margaret nodded, cleared her throat and apoke. "I will need to meet with Nathaniel so we can discuss details on the medicine. It would be good to have prepared ahead." She gestured with her hand, her face holding a serious countenance that Melissa didn't believe it could hold. "I wouldn't want a situation where we would be stuck because I didn't know the details," she concluded.
Melissa nodded and exhaled. "So basically, I would also be meeting with the king and even though I do have a diplomat, I wouldn't want to be a complete fool out there, so we will be meeting him together," she added and then glanced to see if there was any objection, she received none, so she relaxed and signalled for the meeting to continue.
"Okay," Beatrice spoke. "The next topic is about the Council," she said. "We need our house in order.”
