Chapter 113 Moonlight Romance
The moon served through the sky in a dance of silvery elegance as its glint formed an ice blue reflection against the window glass. Melissa stood at the window staring into the bright night her arms folded but her body was poised as if she was ready to spring up anytime.
The day had been hectic, as she'd met a bunch of files she was supposed to have a day ago. She could only finish half of it even with Avalors and Margaret's help. She'd employed Margaret immediately she saw the workload and they were at it for roughly twelve hours.
Margaret had fallen asleep on Richard's bed when they'd finished. She tucked her into his bed as she mumbled in her sleep. Melissa didn't sincerely understand Margaret as a person. Normally, she acts like she has no care for the world and she is just this silly old woman who just wants to eat and flirt with Avalors. Yet at the slightest test of her resolve she shows how knowledgeable and smart she is. Melissa just always wondered why she plays dumb normally while being very smart and vigilant.
Well, all these thoughts were for the next morning, currently, her entire focus was on the moon and the wall clock beside her. She waited patiently and Margaret snored softly in the middle of the night. She already knew by now that she was going to wake up late the next day and there was nothing to do about it. The last few days had been more than life threatening, she deserved at least a few hours to herself.
The clock clicked and then an alarm clock buzzed. Melissa smiled eagerly and lifted the window pane, crawling out of it and she leapt off her window in her human form, by the time she would land she was already in full wolf appearance. She dashed along in full speed, going as fast as she could, she darted sideways into the sacred forest dodging several obstacles. Her normal wolf senses could sense things even better than the average wolf but coupled with her danger awareness- it was as if she was on steroids.
She saw the hill and the flag at the finish line and she grinned, doubling her effort to reach her goal. She was the only one rushing towards it, but still she knew her opponent wasn't playing either. The moment she started to climb the hill, her speed was reduced. She kept pushing forward. She glanced sideways and then from the dark thicket of the forest came a large gray- black wolf lunging unto the path.
She snarled at him and he snarled back.
"If you lose, I will kill you," she heard her wolf say and she doubled up.
"If I lose, it is your fault too," she shot back.
The black wolf merged her speed without effort, so she decided to cheat a bit, she ran sideways, smashing her weight into the body of the wolf. It yelped and stumbled across the path as Melissa drove up the hill, leaving witness in her trail.
She was about to reach the hills when he black wolf landed beside her. The shock of the unexpected landing threw her off course, but she circled back. At last she reached the flag and leapt at it, and at the corner of her eyes, the black wolf did too. She slashed the flag and then landed.
She morphed back into her human form and crouched, folding herself as she was naked. Richard came forward and handed her a pair of clothes, snickering at her. "Cheater," he said. "Yet you still lost," he said.
She put on the cloth, muffling up a protest. The cloth was just a gown that extended down just to her thighs. "Richard, this is awfully short," she said.
"I brought a blanket in case it is cold," he showed her the blanket and she rolled her eyes.
"You are perverted," she clicked her tongue.
"I just picked the cloth, but I will have to just take the blame because you look gorgeous in it," he said with a smile.
"Stop… stop," she said. "So who won," she peered her eyes into the flag..
"I obviously did," he said. "No one can beat me in a race."
"Well, first time for everything," she replied.
"Nah, I got the flag first," he said.
"Did not," she replied, stamping her feet.
"Did too," he calmly said into her face.
They went back and forth for a while before Melissa shoved him in the stomach. She broke out in laughter as he held his stomach in a loud grunt.
They'd planned to have fun tonight like they were kids and just bask in the moonlight. Not thinking about the pressure of ruling or of living at all. They just wanted to have fun and howl to the moon as much as they could. They'd decided to race themselves to their meeting place and Richard'd set up a flag. She'd started from the palace, while Richard started from his house. A vast distance from each other and he'd still met her on the way, without using his darkness walking. Melissa couldn't deny that she respected him even more now.
"You know that is a physical assault," he said, dropping to the ground.
Melissa didn't reply; she fell on him , wrapping her arms around his neck and smiling at him. She felt his hand coil around her waist. "You look really beautiful tonight," he whispered into her ear.
"Thank you," she whispered. "You look like an ogre as usual," she added with a giggle.
Richard broke into laughter and turned back to focus on her. "You just won't cut me a slack right?"
She shook her head. "If I did, you'd get too arrogant overnight," she replied to him, rolling her eyes.
Richard shook his head and wanted to reply but Melissa's lips sank into his. He inhaled as they kissed. He drew her closer to himself, running his hand across her body and she let out a little whimper as he did.
They broke apart after a while and Melissa snuggled herself under his arm, placing her head on his chest as they oth stared at the big blue silver ball hanging from the sky.
