Chapter 115 Council Report
Melissa exhaled as Beateice spoke. This was her main focus. Though the Vance pack might prove a bit hard to match up against due to their proposed military might if their situation called for force, she wouldn't be averse to using it. The council on the other hand was like a soldier ant on someone's face. If you are not interested in assaulting yourself physically, you would take extra care when dealing with it.
Due to her own ill luck, they'd run all their plans in other directions due to the fact that she'd chosen Theresa as her first target. As it woukd seem, the woman was connected to lots of things. Though she seemed not to be a prominent member, but still, being a part of something like that was still mind boggling.
Due to the fact that they'd tried to research on Theresa's background, they'd discovered the Oracle but now, they had to go back to setting the Council straight. Melissa knew she couldn't just remove the entire castle and replace it with a new one and just call it a day. She needed the old members too, even though most of them were governed by their greed and selfishness, she needed to find a way to tap into their ability to hate each other and disturst. They didn't need to like her, they only needed to hate themselves enough so they would need her.
"Good afternoon, lady," Beatrice said with a smile then turned to Melissa. "Your majesty and others,"she said again with a chuckle.
Melissa raised her eyebrows, she seemed to be in a awfully good mood too. Melissa scoffed, it was a good thing to notice that everyone seemed to be in a nice and lively mood. The meeting would have been hell if it was otherwise.
"We have been trying to handle the matter of the Council for a while now and it had only dug us into a larger hole," Beatrice announced, glancing at everyone making sure she got their attention. "I have been trying behind the Luna's back to try and solve the issue myself, so I have tried to get close to each and everyone of the Council members, just calling and making sure to be friendly,"she began.
Melissa frowned, the statement made her feel inferior suddenly. The amount of things Beatrice gets done in a little amount of time made her wonder if she was supposed to be the Luna sometimes. This woman was obviously the backbone of her rule. Her decisiveness and precise judgment were important qualities in Melissa's rule.
Beatrice shifted her weight a bit, cleared her throat and then started. “There are six prominent members of the council. Alina, Mya, Theresa, Greyhound, Lucas and Dean," she listed the names of every single one of the council members one after the other. "Oh, and me too," she said with a smile. "As it stands, I have been able to make positive contact with Greyhound and Lucas."
Melissa didn't really give much thought about Lucas as a person. He was a stoic appearing man that barely said anything. He always appeared to Melissa as tired and a figurehead. He was so silent in council meetings that most of the time, Melissa forgot he was an elder.
"Greyhound has mostly shown a positive…" she said the last word with an air quote. "... Stance towards the Luna. He claimed he isn't really worried about who sits on the throne, as long as none of it affects his own philosophies there would be absolutely no problem from his side," she said.
"And what are these philosophies?" Melissa asked assertively, her eyes narrowed, expecting an answer.
"I do not know yet, when next we have a little chat, I'd try to smuggle that in,"she explained.
Melissa narrowed her eyes more, this time in complete skepticism. In her past lives all of these people conspired against her even before she woud tske up the throne. In this current life, all of them spoke against her and made decisions that would put her on the edge of her seat and now suddenly Greydon wants to bend to her. She didn't believe it for one bit. Then a thought struck her head and she raised her eyes, raising a finger to stop Beatrice before she'd continue speaking.
"Can you help confirm if Greyhound knows anything about the infinite zoos or the Oracle?" she asked.
"I actually already did that," Beatrice replied and Margaret made an exclamation of approval.
"You are so efficient," she said with a hint of surprise.
Beateice smiled. "Thanks," she appreciated the praise but Margaret spoke only what was on everyone's mind.
"So,"Beateice continued. "With all the suggestion I have placed in his path, Greydon seems to be completely oblivious of the existence of the Oracle, yet the woman he brought into the council has an important part in iding their existence," she said.
Erixa squeezed her face. "How old is Theresa again?" She asked.
"Thirty nine," she said.
Melissa nodded. "We need to try and pinpoint the date she got hold of infinite zoos and the level of kidnappings during that time," Eroca proposed and everyone nodded.
"As for Lucas, he is a little apprehensive and a bit fearful, he doesn't want to go against the entire council," Beatrice said but Melissa raised her palm to halt her speech.
"If he is too chicken to stand up for anythinng, do you think you even need to be wasting your time on the likes of him?" Melissa asked.
"He would be a useful asset for us, he is actually in connection with one of the other Council member, Mya," Beatrice paused for effect. "Romantically," she added at last.
"Oh," Melissa nodded. "I understand now," she said.
"Actually apart from that, he is quite okay as a person. He is a little indifferent towards you and your family, he has a a hidden grudge that I am yet to uncover," she said.
Everyone nodded. "My proposal is to pause the Council case for now till we complete the Vance pack meeting, but I will continue with trying to understand more on the two members I have picked," she said and concluded.
Melissa nodded, there wasn't any objections or anything to add. Then she paused, detecting she'd forgotten something, then suddenly Richard stood up and she jerked. Everyone else jerked too.
"Good afternoon,"he said "I am mostly in care of Melissa and her security detail. I am reporting next." He said with a blank expression.
