Chapter 18

Westley's POV

I got home that night, realizing I had a stupid grin across my face since I had been home.

I made it upstairs and removed my shirt, that's when I noticed a note on my bed, it was a white envelop.

The words, To Mr. Johnson were written in sleek red ink on the front of it.

No return address.

I opened it up to find a note inside.

Nick,

I know we haven't spoken since that time in Cancun, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about you since I last saw you speak at the auction in Martha's Vineyard back in February.

I would've come up to speak to you, but I didn't want to make things awkward.

So I decided to write you this letter. I miss you, West and I want you back in my life again, we had so many great memories and I had never met anyone that made me as happy as you had.

I'll be in town for the rest of the weekend, and tomorrow I will be at the Rosestone Cafe around nine 'o'clock a.m.

I would love to see you.

With lots of love,

Mackenzie

I sit down on my bed and set the note down next to me, as I run my hands over my face and groan out loud with frustration.

This couldn't be real.

After four years, she now tries to get back in contact with me.

I find myself laying flat on my back the rest of the night, not moving a muscle.

Saturday morning came quickly, as I sat on my bed and stared at the wall, a knock came at my door,

"Mr. Johnson, I'm going to run errands, is there anything specific you would like?" Asked Maxwell, I slowly stood up and opened my door.

"Yeah, a time machine." I said leaning against the doorway, he til"Is this regarding that note?" he asked,

"Yeah, how did you know?"

"Miss Whalen dropped it off for you, I was the one who set it up here." I groaned, "I don't know what to do."

"May I ask what seems to be troubling you?"

"Mackenzie wrote me, because she's in town and says she misses me and wants to get back together." I said looking at Max as I was at a loss for words.

"Hm. When was the last time you saw Miss Whalen?"

"Five years ago.

When I went to Cancun with a bunch of friends from college, she was one of them..we had an on again off again type of relationship before then and then the night we left Cancun I broke up with her, things were stressful."

"Be honest with yourself. Has she once crossed your mined in the last five years?" he asked me, he always sounded very smart when he spoke. He was though.

I raked my hand through my hair "Honestly, no. Not once."

"And as of right now, present day, you are seeing Miss Trickson? Is that correct?"

"I-I don't know, we haven't put any label on it."

"How are your feelings towards Miss Trickson, as opposed to when you and Miss Whalen were together?"

"Not even remotely close, I have these thoughts and feelings towards Luna, that I have never had for another woman before."

"Then, it sounds like you know

"I don't."

"You need to go an tell Miss Whalen the truth, about you, about Luna." I stood there contemplating.

He was right.

"Yeah, yeah I should. Thank you, Max. You're always a big help. I appreciate it."

He nodded slightly

"It's always a pleasure, sir."

Luna's POV

:

The next morning I woke up to see my mother and aunt sitting around my kitchen table talking.

"Oh, good you're up!"

I trudged over and took a seat, yawning and rubbing my eyes. "How'd you sleep sweet heart?"

Perfectly.

I still had the feeling of his kiss lingering on my lips, the sweet smell of his cologne and the sound of his voice when he sounded so gentlemen like calling me by my last name.

I grinned a bit,

"Ah, ah you dreamt about him. Didn't you?" my eyes grew wide in embarrassment.

"No I-"

"Honey, you like him. He likes you, it's nothing to be ashamed of at all, besides I'm your mom and she is your aunt. We support you no matter what."

I gave them both warm smiles, "Thank you." they nodded.

"Okay but let's get down to business, what is his real story?" asked Jen

"Excuse me?"

"I got the feeling he wasn't telling us everything about himself, well he's not here so why not share." I contemplated that.

"You have to keep this between us. It stays in this kitchen." I said looking at them contently, they nodded "Of course."

I took a deep breath, would he be mad if I was telling them about his personal life?

Maybe.

Would he ever know, probably not.

Okay, I continued on

"He is actually the son of the man who owns the company I work for.

"Oh. My. Gosh. That's West Johnson!

West Johnson?"

"Why does everybody say that?"

"Uh for a couple reasons, reason number one.

He was voted one of the hottest men for four years in a row.

But, not as powerful." I looked at her blankly, I was beyond confused.

"You lost me."

"He is one of those guys that thousands of women want to date or even just get the chance to know, and

, my dear sweet niece, Luna have him wrapped around your finger."

I looked at her baffled, as did my mom.

"Are you sure we are talking about the same guy here?" I asked her

"Yes! Just look it up, or go onto the streets of New York and ask women, I can ensure you that some of them will say yes."

"Well great, that doesn't make me self conscious at all." I said rubbing my arm.

"Honey, why on earth would you say that?"

"Because, I'm not sure if you have seen the women here, but a good majority of them are stunning!

If he is really as wanted as you say he is, than why is he bothering with me? I just do not understand."

"Because sweetie, he likes you, he clearly cares about you. Tessa, last night when you spoke I saw the way he looked at you.

His eyes followed every word you said and he had the biggest grin on his face each time you spoke." said my mom giving me a warm smile.

"Really?" she nodded

"Luna, listen. You are beautiful, and funny, and one of the kindest people I know.

You can make anyone's day better, so it is a no brained to me that he is attracted to you." Said Jen

I soaked in their words, and began to feel slightly better, that's when my front door opened and in walked Katerina in yoga shorts, a fitness jacket and sneakers, her phone in a pouch around her arm and a bottle of water in the other.

"You went for a run?" I said in surprise

She nodded,

"Yes! And it felt great. But I need to tell you guys something." she said removing the arm band and setting it on the kitchen counter before sitting down.

"What do you need to tell us?" asked Jen

She took a deep breath.

"After my run, I decided to stop for a bagel at that Cafe near Central Park called Rosestone.

Well when I went inside I noticed two people-a man and a woman sitting at a little table in the corner of the cafe.

They were laughing and seeming to be enjoying themselves, and that's when I realized it was Nick and another girl."

I instantly felt my stomach clench up and drop to my feet, I felt nauseas.

My mom's eyes darted from Kirsten to me, she immediately placed her hand firmly around m"So, you're telling us, that he was out having breakfast with another woman?" said Jen, surprise in her voice.

Kirsten nodded,

"That's what I just said, isn't it."

"Um, Kate did-you happen to hear what they were talking about."

"Yes, and before you judge me I was already planning on sitting down, I just happened to sit as close to them as possible."

I looked at my sister, still feeling sick.

"They were speaking about a trip they took to Cancun four years ago, and she told him how much she missed that time, and him..."

I looked at the ground, I didn't have anything to say.

"She must be...an ex girlfriend than?" Jen said

"That was my first guess...after I heard that I decided to leave."

"Look, it could mean a number of things, for all we know they just ran into each other there, if they haven't seen each other in five years.

I would sit down too and see how they were doing." Jen chimed in.

"I feel sick." I said standing up,

"Oh, honey."

"I mean, I know we aren't a couple, we have no title and we haven't known each other that long.

But I cannot compete with a woman who has known him for years, let alone who has dated him."

"This is too much." I said raising my hands.

"Luna, let's try an think positively. We have no idea what the situation is, let's not jump to conclusions."

"How exactly do you expect me to not jump to conclusions?" I said running my hands through my messy bed head hair.

"How about you just call him, and ask if the two of you can talk about it?" Katerina said,

"Oh yeah, totally I'll just call an say

'Hey West, yeah so my sister saw you with another girl at a cafe this morning an over heard her tell you that she misses you. Mind telling me what that was about?'

I said as I pretended to hang up my invisible phone and glare at my sister,

"Luna, she was just trying to help." said my mother.

That's when I heard my cell phone ring.

"Ugh, who could that be, I'm really not in the mood to ta-oh my god, it's him." I said staring over at my family frantically.

"Answer it!" Jen said with wide eyes.

"Do it!" I looked at my screen and slid it open to answer the call as I walked into my bedroom and shut the door.

I took a seat and breathed in "Hello?"

"Hey, Tess. Do you have time to maybe talk?" There it was again, the sickening feeling.

I felt as if my stomach was knotted together.

"Uh, yes. Where and when?"

"Well...I was thinking now. I'm actually near your place." My eyes grew wide.

"Is that okay? If not we could do it another time."

"No! Now is fine." I said, my voice sounding harsh.

"Okay, I'll see you soon."

We hung up and I quickly brushed my hair and teeth then changed into something other than pink and white stripped pajamas.

"Wow, you sure did a 180." said Kirsten,

"He's on his way up."

"What?"

"Yeah, he wants to talk." I said, I realized my voice cracked as I said it,

"Oh, honey. It will all turn out okay, just stay positive. We can leave if you'd like."

"No, it's fine." That's when I heard a knock on my door, my stomach dropped again as I opened it up to see a tall clean cut West standing in front of me.

He had a white button down collared shirt on, and dark pants. The cuffs on his shirt were undone and his sleeves were rolled up a little near his elbows.

He drove me crazy when he wore white. It brought out his eyes.

"Hi"

"Hi," I said, he leaned forward to give me a hug.

I felt happy and content in his arms. That might soon change.

"Please, come in."

"Great, thank you."

As we walked farther into the kitchen and living room I noticed my family were sitting outside with the doors shut on the terrace.

"Do you want to sit?" I asked, he nodded.

"So, what is this about?" I said trying to sound okay, even though I was wanting to break down inside.

"Luna, we need to talk."
