Chapter 122 Blind Date

"But I don't really know much about him. How about you add my contact information and let me know what his interests are later, okay?"

"Sure." Catherine nodded and added Evelyn's contact information.

The two parted ways.

After Evelyn was completely out of sight, Catherine's expression suddenly turned blank, her eyes somewhat vacant.

Alison, standing beside her, gritted her teeth. "Manuel is such a jerk! This is clearly cheating! Even if he was just playing around with you, he should at least wait until you break up before going on a date! Doing this is just stringing you along!"

Catherine stared blankly in the direction Evelyn had left, her mind drifting back to yesterday after work when Manuel came to pick her up, and Savannah's warning.

"Catherine, you need to be careful! Men, especially rich guys like your boyfriend, are usually just playing around. We have a teacher in our office who was pursued by a rich guy for a whole year. Everyone around was so envious. He sent her five or six carloads of roses! Everyone thought they would definitely get married. But they broke up last month, and guess what?"

"The rich guy got married, and his bride was already seven or eight months pregnant! He got another woman pregnant shortly after starting to date her, who knows how many women he was playing with behind her back! So you need to be careful, don't get emotionally involved with these rich guys, they won't take you seriously!"

Remembering Savannah's words, Catherine suddenly felt they were very fitting.

Sure enough, everything in life had already been foreshadowed.

How ridiculous, she thought that in the past few days, she and Manuel had started to develop a real boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.

She even thought yesterday that maybe Manuel's heart had truly warmed up to her.

But now it seemed that men's hearts were made of iron, they couldn't be warmed, not even with high heat. It only left the person trying to warm them feeling cold.

Catherine looked down at her phone. By this time, Evelyn had already added her contact, and the empty chat screen only had a "Hello." Catherine replied with a "Hello" and then turned off her phone.

Alison, standing beside her, mentioned Evelyn. "That beauty is the heir to the Thomas Group. But she doesn't rely on her parents. She has her own car dealership abroad. If you follow her on Facebook, you'll see Evelyn posting a lot of luxury cars. She's quite wealthy. And she started her company on her own, without her parents' help. In terms of personal ability, she's really impressive."

Catherine smiled, feeling a sense of admiration for Evelyn.

At the same age, Evelyn had gone abroad to study and started her own car dealership.

While Catherine, at the same age, could only work as a university counselor, with a salary that was worlds apart from Evelyn's.

It was fitting, she thought, that Manuel and Evelyn were a good match. She should have realized that someone like Manuel, who might talk about feelings on the surface, was all about business at heart.

He might date someone like Catherine, who was young and pretty, but he would definitely marry a powerful and wealthy woman for a suitable match.

Still, Catherine felt a bit upset.

She just felt it was unfair. If Manuel had broken up with her before going on a date, she wouldn't have minded. After all, Manuel had already told her he wasn't serious. But they were still officially dating, and Catherine thought Manuel would at least treat her a bit more equally.

Instead, he lied about having surgery and then went on a date with a wealthy and powerful beauty. What did he take her for?

Alison sighed, regretting coming to this buffet.

She said to Catherine, "Manuel is probably eating in this hotel right now. Should we go back?"

Catherine shook her head. "I don't have an appetite. Let's go somewhere else to eat."

"Or should we go in?" Alison suggested, "I can't stand seeing that jerk play you like this. Let's go in and reveal your relationship in front of his parents and his date. Tell them you're his girlfriend."

Catherine smiled, a bit sadly. "What's the point?"

Catherine had already imagined Manuel's reaction. He would still maintain that cold face, with no expression, as if she were air, and then calmly deny it.

Both sets of parents would just see her as a crazy or unreasonable ex-girlfriend because of Manuel's behavior, with no reaction.

She, the legitimate girlfriend, would look like a joke, and no one but herself would take it seriously.

"But..." Alison wanted to say something, but Catherine tugged at her sleeve. "Let's go. Staying here will only make me feel more humiliated."

Alison fell silent, and the two of them left quietly.

As they passed the restaurant, they walked by the private room where Manuel was.

At that moment, a waiter was serving food, and the door to the private room was open. Through the door, Catherine unintentionally made eye contact with Manuel inside.

Manuel was lying on the sofa, holding a wine glass, his face flushed from drinking. Evelyn had returned to the private room and was sitting beside him, the two of them chatting happily with their wine glasses.

The moment Manuel made eye contact with Catherine, his smile froze.

Catherine just glanced at him indifferently and turned to leave.

Manuel gripped his wine glass, and some wine spilled onto his clothes, staining his expensive suit.

"What happened?" Evelyn asked, puzzled, as she walked over to wipe his sleeve.

Their posture was very intimate.

Alison glared at the scene and quickly walked over to Catherine. "Let's go back. Seeing this is just bad luck."

The two people in the private room didn't hear this because of the noise outside, but they both saw the expressions on Alison and Catherine's faces.

Evelyn smiled. "That girl in the white dress is quite pretty."

Manuel frowned slightly. "She already has a boyfriend."

"Ah, I didn't even ask if she was single." Evelyn said somewhat regretfully.
