Chapter 123: Single
Evelyn's face showed a teasing smile as she suddenly leaned closer to Manuel and whispered in his ear, "Your girlfriend is really pretty. She's just my type. Have you ever considered being with me, and we can share your girlfriend? I promise I won't interfere with what you do outside. In front of your family, I'll be the perfect wife."
Manuel looked down at his reflection in the wine glass and said nothing.
Evelyn noticed he seemed a bit displeased and nudged him with her elbow, "Are you really not going to consider it? Honestly, your girlfriend is exactly my type. I've been abroad for a long time, and most of the women there are the cold and strong type. Girls like her, who are pretty and delicate like a dodder, are rare. I was smitten at first sight. When I went to the restroom earlier, I talked to her about you. Her face turned pale. It seems you've really hurt her feelings. I even got her contact information and plan to get to know her better. If you don't help us get together, I'll just chat with her myself."
Manuel finally looked up at her, a hint of displeasure in his eyes, "Your ways won't work here. She's straight."
"Are you so sure?" Evelyn smiled, "I've conquered quite a few ice queens abroad. I haven't tried a sweet little cake like her yet, but I understand a woman's heart better than you men do. I know what she would like, and I don't think I can't win her over. How about we make a bet and see if I can win her over in a month?"
Manuel sneered, "No need, I don't like gambling."
"Alright." Evelyn shrugged, "You really are possessive."
Lloyd, who was nearby, saw them chatting happily and asked with a smile, "You two seem to have a lot in common. What are you talking about?"
"We're talking about desserts." Evelyn flashed a bright smile, "I recently found a dessert I like, soft and sticky, with a cool aura. I plan to try it. And it seems Manuel likes it too, so we have a lot in common."
"I see." Lloyd didn't catch Evelyn's inside joke and smiled, "I'm glad to see you two getting along well."
Two hours later, the dinner party finally ended.
The Green family father and son got into the car, and Lloyd casually asked, "What do you think of that woman today? If you agree, we can set the marriage."
Manuel shook his head, "She's not the stay-at-home type, and she's had a lot of experiences abroad. If we marry her, it will be very unsettling."
Lloyd frowned, "Is she? I couldn't tell from her appearance. But her parents like you. If this marriage doesn't work out, I'll talk to them and take you to meet other girls next week. You're not getting any younger. Staying single and not getting married isn't good. Settle the marriage soon and have a child, so your mom, your grandma, and I can be at ease."
Manuel nodded, "I understand."
The rest of the ride was silent.
When they arrived at the Green Mansion, Lloyd got out of the car and suddenly turned to look at Manuel, "One last thing. Since we're starting to arrange dates for you, you might get married soon. If the girl's family finds out you have a girlfriend, it will be ugly. You'd better end that relationship soon."
Manuel was silent for a moment, not immediately agreeing. Instead, he said to his father, "You don't need to rush. I'll handle everything when the time comes."
"Alright, as long as you know what you're doing." Lloyd said, turning back to the mansion.
Catherine came home with a big bag of snacks that Alison had given her.
Breakups always needed some comfort. Alison had planned to take her to a bar to sing, dance, and meet some cute guys to ease the pain of the breakup.
But Catherine quickly got over it. She didn't really like Manuel anyway. She was mainly angry because Manuel didn't respect her.
If Manuel got engaged or married and she was kept in the dark, she would become the other woman ruining someone's marriage.
Catherine didn't want that. It was too disgraceful, and her morals and upbringing wouldn't allow it.
Manuel hadn't considered any of this when he did those things, keeping everything from her and treating her like a toy to be summoned and dismissed at will. She had no self-respect in front of him.
Catherine planned to break up with Manuel when she got home. She thought Manuel would probably bring it up soon too.
There was no way Manuel would dare to mess around behind his wife's back after getting married, right?
When she got home, she found Manuel already lying in bed, having showered and changed clothes.
Catherine was a bit surprised. She thought Manuel would still be on a date at this time.
Wasn't that the usual process for blind dates? Manuel came back so soon. Was this the love life of a workaholic?
Manuel saw her and patted the bed beside him, "Come here." he called to Catherine.
Catherine didn't go over. She looked at him coldly, "I'm not a dog."
Manuel burst out laughing and sat up, "I didn't say you were a dog. How does lying on the bed make you a dog?"
Catherine was silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up, her eyes cold, "Guess where I saw you today?"
Manuel said nothing.
Catherine pressed on, "I saw you at a five-star hotel. That hotel is nice. The top 50 floors are for dining, and the bottom 50 floors are for rooms. Blind dates, weddings, having kids, all in one place. You must have had a great time, right?"
Manuel rubbed his temples, "I just met someone."
Catherine ground her teeth, "You're still lying. I ran into her in the restroom. She told me she was there for a blind date."
