Chapter 338 338. Olena - Thanksgiving 3
Chapter 338 338. Olena - Thanksgiving 3
Not long after Isla and I finish texting, Vasiliy enters the room and places the tray with the tea and toast on the bed beside me.
He waits until I take a few sips of the tea and eat half of the toast before asking, “How do you feel now?”
“Much better. Most likely, the eggs were bad, that’s way they smelled so awful. Good thing Artemiy didn’t finish eating them. He would have probably ended up with food poisoning.”
He falls silent, and I can see him thinking. He even looks at the calendar I have on my desk. Eventually, he asks, “Does your period come on the same date?”
I blink at that because I don’t understand what my period has to do with anything. “Yes.”
“Then you are three days late.”
I am not sure where he is going with this, but I say, “It can be a number of reasons why I’m late–stress, entering menopause, hormones, etc.”
“Or a pregnancy. We never once used protection. And we’ve been fucking like rabbits for weeks.”
I laugh for two reasons.
One–It’s impossible for me to get pregnant.
Two–him claiming that we are fucking like rabbits.
“Don’t be silly,” I protest, and while he doesn’t seem convinced, he doesn’t insist on the matter.
Somehow, his words get to me, especially when my period doesn’t come the next day or the day after that, and the smell keeps bothering me, especially strong ones. I even catch myself checking my stomach in the mirror every time I pass one, which is becoming silly, especially when Artemiy and I are out shopping. He even jokes about it.
On the morning of Thanksgiving, I can’t take it anymore and decide to run quickly to a nearby drugstore to get a pregnancy test—even if I think it’s impossible for me to be pregnant—while the guys are still asleep.
The plan is to return home before they wake up. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned.
After I buy what I need, I place the three tests—because apparently, one is not enough—in my purse and leave the shop.
On my way home, as I pass by a dark alley between two tall buildings, someone suddenly grabs me and pulls me inside. As always, I freeze as I’m pushed against the wall, expecting to come face-to-face with a thief, or worse—with Yuily—but the man standing before me is Anton, Yao’s son, his eyes blazing red with fury.
I am not sure why he has grabbed me like this or why he pulled me into the alley, but I am sure his intention is not to hurt me in any way.
“Anton?” I ask softly when he keeps looking at me with anger.
Something is different about him since I last saw him—he now has a tattoo on his left cheek.
429.
I am not sure what that means. Maybe it is a sign that he’s part of a street gang now—I’ve heard that some gang members have specific tattoos to identify themselves. Like the Lords.
“What are you doing here all alone?” he hisses.
A couple of things I'd specifically keep an eye on:
I swallow hard at his angry tone because I have been quite proud of myself for being able to go to the store all by myself without having an anxiety attack, but he’s starting to scare me.
“I needed to buy something,” I explain, hoping he will let me go.
“Alone?”
Am I supposed to have come accompanied by Artemiy or Vasiliy? “Yes. Is that a problem?” I inquire.
He drags a gloved hand down his face before telling me, “Let me show you something,” and steps away from me, pointing toward an unmarked black car on the far side of the street. “See that?” he asks me.
When I nod, he reveals, “It been parked in front of the building you live in from the moment you returned here and it has been following you from the moment you stepped out on the street. The only reason why the two men inside haven’t grabbed you is because they haven’t realized you left the drugstore. And because I was around the neighbourhood and spotted you in time.”
My knees go weak at that because I’m sure that one of the men inside that car is Yuily.
I have convinced myself that he has decided to leave me alone, but he has been following me all along.
“You need to help me,” I beg.
“Why do you think I’m here? You will have to stay put a little longer—until the Lord I called to help me gets here.”
Seconds after he says that, the phone in his pocket buzzes and he pulls it out. A grin spreads across his lips a moment later.
“He’s here.”
We both watch as a man in his late forties approaches the car and pulls two guns–one in each hand–on the two men inside, who quickly rush to do as they are told.
“He really shouldn’t be doing this in broad daylight,” Anton mutters before walking away. He stops only to tell me, “Call your men and tell them to come get you.”
I pull my phone out of my purse with trembling hands. It takes me a bit to dial Vasiliy’s number.
“Come get me,” I whisper when he picks up, my voice breaking.
To say that Artemiy and Vasiliy are unhappy with me for going out alone would be an understatement, but they are relieved that Anton was there to prevent a tragedy from happening. I haven’t told them the entire truth, just that some guy in a car scared me, which has me feeling pretty guilty because I’m hiding something so big from them, but I don’t want this day to be about Yuily. I will tell them tomorrow. Today is all about family.
While the entire incident from the morning has left me pretty shaken, Vasiliy and Artemiy fussing over me the entire morning is more than enough to calm my nerves. Knowing that Yuily won’t be a problem anymore also helps.
I’m a Lady now, and both Vasiliy and Artemiy told me that the Lords take care of their own, especially the Ladies. Anton and the other Lord are proof that they weren’t exaggerating.
“Are you sure you still want to go to Theodore’s house?” Vasiliy asks me while we are getting ready.
Theodore is Isla’s grandfather.
“Yes,” I reply after applying my lipstick. “I am eager to see my granddaughter and daughter-in-law, my son, his blood-brothers, and the rest of the family. There are plenty of things that I’m grateful for today, and I want to spend the rest of this day with all of you. But more than anything, I’m grateful for you and Artemiy.”
That makes him smile. “And I am grateful for every moment I get to spend with you.”
“Look, I am grateful for both of you, but if we don’t leave in five minutes, we are going to get there late,” Artemiy starts to rush us.
Of course, it takes us over twenty minutes to actually get out the door, but Vasiliy makes sure to let Isla know that we will be a bit late.
While in the car, I start fidgeting with the hem of my coat, and Artemiy takes my hand in his and brushes his thumb along my skin—his gentle touch calming me somewhat.
Vasiliy, who’s behind the steering wheel, glances at me through the rearview mirror.
“Having second thoughts about the Thanksgiving dinner?” he jokes, trying to soothe my worries.
“Not about that, but about telling Ivan about us,” I admit.
“You don’t have to tell him anything if you don’t want to,” he reassures me. “But the more time you take, the harder it will be to let him know about us.”
Vasiliy speaks next. “Ivan loves you very much, and I’m sure he will be very happy to learn that Artemiy and I are going to take care of you for the rest of our lives. The longer you take to tell him, the more he will feel like you’ve shut him out of your life.”
Both are right, but I fear Ivan won’t be very happy with my decision to date two men, especially when he knows nothing about one of them to begin with.
But before I can make up my mind, we have already arrive at Theodore’s house.
And my son is close to the front gate, a scowl on his face.
