Challenge Accept
Reyna’s P.O.V
'I think Reyna is the best one for this challenge. She would definitely like to do it.'
Those highlighted words broke the silence, choking me on my own breath. "What in the bloody hell!?" I murmured as my eyes roamed in the crowd to find that kind face who decided to recommend me for the suicide mission!
And when my eyes finally caught the culprit, I just rolled my eyes in agony.
'Wow! Of course! Is this why you decided to bring me here in the first place, huh God?' I couldn't help but be sarcastic while talking to the God in mind.
The woman who took my name was none other than Bria. Who is now a senior perfumer and her pure dismayer. She has practically hated me since high school.
'First those idiotic betrayals, then my mother's last memory, and now this? What more have you listed for me huh?
Can you just give me a hint so I can be at least prepared!?'
Talking with God was nothing new. I always heard from my father that God always listens to his creation. Though my fate never takes a side with me, still I do believe in God and keep going on. No matter what happens, I feel safe sharing my mind with my God.
'Now she has taken my name.' I continued my mind talk. 'For sure I was trying to create trouble for myself. After all, she is Bria. And she could never wish anything well for me. Not even a little one. It's gonna be very bad.’
I was not someone who accepted the shit thrown at me. I know how to hit back with double enthusiasm.
However, I couldn't do it here. Because Bria is a senior and well-reputed in the company, unlike her. Who was non-majored but went inside because the examiner thought she was gifted. My position was much lower than Bria's.
If I tried to get back to her with words, then I might have to lose my job, which I couldn't afford. So, clenching my teeth, I decided to endure as much as I could.
"Why do you take her name for this challenge?" The boss asked, as calm and deep as before.
Throwing an evil glance at me, Bria proudly walked forward, trying to make a professional posture.
"Sir, we all had to go through different exams and tough competition to get into the company. But, our Lila is different." She once again stole a glance at my expressionless face as she continued, "One of our respectable examiners thought she was ingenious enough to skip those terms and directly let her enter the company. And that only means she is more capable of taking on the challenge than any of us."
I felt aggrieved, realizing Bria's implications on me. She was expounding that I had played a vile trick just to get my position, which was absolutely wrong!
Yes, I got my position differently, but that was because I had proved my smelling sense and inventing capabilities. I might not have the same major as them but I was doing hard work every day just to take down such blame! Being a perfumer wasn't my dream, I wish to be a Surgeon. But I can’t for now. I work hard to be a perfumer so that I wouldn't do anything unfair or vicious, hurting others.
"My apologies for talking in the middle." Kevin came forward and nodded slowly at me when I looked up at him in surprise. "I am the examiner who gave Lila this chance.
Like other students, I have been strict with her and did not want to give her this job because her major does not comply. However, she impressed me beyond my expectations in the task she has been given. Ma, this girl is very talented and gifted with her sense of fragrance."
"But that never gave you the right to be unfair to others, Mrs. Vivian ." Boss's cold voice made everything freeze. "And this time the question is for Miss Reyna, not you." The strictness in her voice shook everyone to their core. Her words only made the atmosphere colder than what her presence would do!?
I felt bad for my kind superior. He was always very good to me and I could never implicate him in things that he never meant to do.
'Okay Lila, you can do this.' Encouraging myself in mind and taking a long deep breath, I stepped forward. "I accept this challenge and will prove myself, sir. I hope you can give me the chance."
The moment I stepped forward and volunteered myself for the challenge, I could feel every eye on me. And most of them were filled with Mockery and evil smirks. Because they are all waiting to see me failing miserably.
I kept myself calm as much as I could and did not let my fear and nervousness take over me. It's a lot of pressure and I know it well. Still, I came forward.
First, I didn't want to disgrace the kind man in front of everyone, and secondly, as a perfume lover, I have always heard of the legendary 'Macarons scent'.
I always wished to be a part of the reinvention of this legend once again. When I get the chance, I will try it. Maybe this opportunity could give me what I always wanted to become and lessen my burden of the blame for unfairness.
The boss was silent for the time being before he said, "As you wish, Miss Parker. You will be leading this project." And he goes silent the way he appeared suddenly.
"Everyone..." The middle-aged man once again gained all the attention. "The meeting is over. You can go back to your respective works." Then his eyes landed on me,
Mis Parker as the leader of the reinvention project, it's time for you to meet the boss. Please come with me."
Inhaling another deep breath, I followed the man. Though he went into the mansion, he took the outer way to take me to the Boss, leaving the private spaces. The outer part went through a long corridor, decorated with royalty.
However, that outer part was enough to bewitch me, as I never had seen such luxuries before. Not even in Patterson and Wave Place!
'Whoever this Boss is, has such an artistic and luxurious taste with uncountable sums of money!' I couldn't help but admire my surroundings with a tiny bit of jealousy in my dreamy eyes.
Finally, the man stopped in front of a huge double door and knocked on the door with the lionhead door knocker. A few seconds later, he opened the door and nodded at me. "Boss is waiting for you."
An uncertain fear was squeezing my heart. I didn't know what was waiting for me inside.
With clenched fists and a thudding heart, I finally crossed the door and got inside. My heart almost jumped out when that man closed the door from behind.
I tried to take a good look at my front. However, before I could do that my heart stopped beating for a moment when the familiar deep and dusky voice raised behind her.
"Why didn't you try to look for me, Baby girl?”
