Chapter 37 Madi, Woke Up 2

Chapter 37 Madi, Woke Up 2
DIMITRI POV

After I found out Madi was in the hospital, I went crazy, completely distraught.

A mix of fear and worry gripped my heart.

Madi was the best thing that ever happened to me in my miserable life; she's my redemption, and I can't lose her.

Four agonizing days have passed and I will finally be able to see her.

My anxiety doubles with each passing minute.

I pace back and forth, staring at the white door in front of me, waiting for someone to come get me.

"Calm down, Dimitri, you're going to have a heart attack before you even get to see her," Laura said, trying to stop me.

"I've been waiting for four days, and you're asking me to be calm, Laura?" I look at her seriously.

That look of yours doesn't intimidate me, I'm just trying to help.

I know what you're going through.

I was with her at the time of the accident, and I guarantee you I'm a thousand times more worried than you are, but there's no point in acting like this, damn it.

I didn't answer her because I'm focused on the door, and luckily, the nurse called me to follow her.

When I enter the room where she was, an involuntary tear rolls down my face.

I had promised myself I would keep her safe, but I failed.

If I had stayed with her from the beginning and taken her out of that nightclub, none of this would be happening.

She would be fine, but I destroyed my hope of being happy the day I got married.

Now I'm not going to throw my happiness out the window; that's out of the question.

Madi is sleeping peacefully and beautifully as always, but some parts of her body are scratched and bruised, which makes me even angrier at the bastard who did this to her.

I get closer and hold her hand.

I've never cried for anything in this life, and now, seeing the woman I love so fragile and bruised, I can't hold back my tears.

I know I don't deserve to have you, that I'm a damn selfish person, but I need you, my love, come back to me.

You don't know how broken I am inside seeing you like this and not being able to do anything.

I'd give anything to be in your place, even more so now that you're carrying our child— I pause to wipe away a tear—I know he's ours, you know why?

Because I feel it.

I never paid attention to feelings, and you know, but when I found out about this baby, something in me changed, actually.

Since the night I met you, my life has turned upside down, hasn't it?— I force a smile—I'm just asking you to come back to me, to come back to us, please.

I'll be here waiting for you, I'll never abandon you again.

I place my hand on her belly and then kiss her, feeling Madi's fingers tighten around my hand and her eyes slowly open.

Dimitri? — She speaks in a weak voice.

Madi, my love, you woke up.

I never thought I'd say this before, but God heard my prayers — I smile.

She examines the room and then turns her attention back to me.

"What happened?" she asked, slightly confused.

You were hit by a car, don't you remember?

I vaguely remember crossing the street and feeling an impact, then seeing blood and nothing else.

You hit your head and they rushed you here.

The doctors managed to stop the bleeding, but you've been unconscious for four days.

"My head hurts," she tries to get up, but I stop her.

Don't get up, stay lying down, I'll call the doctor to examine you.

Dimitri don't leave me, please.

I'm not leaving my princess, I'll be right back.

I go to find the doctor and accompany him back to Madi's room; he asks her several questions regarding her memories.

"Why are you asking these questions? Is there something wrong with her?" I ask.

"No, I'm checking for memory loss. In most cases, someone who takes a blow like hers doesn't remember what happened, which isn't the case here," the doctor replied, still examining her.

And is everything alright with her?

When will she be able to be discharged?

Everything is great, we're going to do a few more tests just to be sure, and I believe she'll be released tomorrow morning.

"And the baby?" Madi asks suddenly.

Did you already know you were pregnant?

No, Dimitri, I heard it when you were talking to me, I heard everything you said, and I think that's what made me come back.

I can't really explain it properly.

"That's very good, I always advise family members to talk to the patient, especially those in a coma. Even in that situation, they can hear, and that helps a lot in the patient's recovery," said Dr. Fernando.

After following all the doctor's instructions, he leaves, and a hysterical Laura enters the room.

You bitch, how could you scare me like that? I almost died of worry—Laura hugs Madi, making her groan in pain.

Oh my god, I'm so sorry Madi.

"Careful, Laura, you'll hurt her like that," I said, pulling her away from the bed.

Look, I've already apologized.

Now, if you'll excuse us, I want to speak privately with my friend.

I look at Madi, who smiles at me, and I leave the room, leaving the two of them to talk.
