Chapter 207

Chapter 207

Emily slammed her hand hard on the table, glaring furiously at Bronte, "I'm just stating the facts, why are you getting so worked up? Since you care so much about Mole, why don't you think about how worried the families of those kidnapped children must be!"

"You're talking nonsense. I haven't done anything, and I'm not Bronte. How can someone like you be a police officer? I'm demanding to see my lawyer right now!"

Bronte kept yelling, getting so agitated that she tried to drag the table and chair back and forth, wanting to stand up. But her whole body was restrained, and she couldn't move an inch.

Emily stood up and walked straight toward Bronte step by step, "You just want revenge on society because your son died, don't you? Don't think what you did was perfect. Bronte, I'm talking nicely to you now only because I pity you. Actually, Mole has confessed everything!"

"Jake, what did he tell you?"

Bronte stared at Emily in shock.

Her eyes were filled with disbelief and astonishment. How could Jake betray her?

Back then, Mole had said she was his savior, the woman he loved most in this life, and that even until old age and death, he would never betray her!

Actually, Emily had made all this up. She was just bluffing Bronte based on her own guesses.

She didn't expect Bronte to fall for it so quickly.

"He would never betray me. You're a police officer, and you're lying!"

Bronte suddenly realized what was happening. She abruptly raised her head and stared hard at Emily.

"What the truth is doesn't really matter now. What matters is that our people have already caught everyone in your organization. Bronte, don't you get it yet? You're already at the police station. If we didn't have solid evidence of your crimes, why would we have brought you in?"

Emily narrowed her eyes. She grabbed Bronte's chin with her hand, forcing her to make eye contact.

If Emily's guess was right, this Bronte was actually a pitiful person too.

At a young age, because her parents were useless—one addicted to gambling, the other constantly sleeping around—no one took care of her and her brother.

With no choice, Bronte had to find a man to marry.

Unexpectedly, her first husband turned out to be a complete scumbag. Not only did he get drunk every day, but every time he came home drunk, he would beat Bronte.

Against her will and without contraception, she gave birth to her son.

For Bronte back then, besides her brother and son, who were her closest family in this world, no one else mattered.

Later, no one really knew what happened.

The neighbors of Bronte's first husband said that he went to work at a construction site, there was a mining accident, and he died in the mine shaft.

Then Bronte married another man, bringing her son along.

By then, Bronte had saved up some money from helping foreign organizations with money laundering.

Her second husband also didn't know how to cherish or appreciate her. Besides asking for money, he spent almost all his time fooling around outside, even claiming that for a second-hand woman like Bronte who had been married before, his willingness to take her was the greatest charity.

Those men broke Bronte's heart, and that wasn't all.

Bronte's son drowned while swimming with her ex-husband.

The villagers said she cried very sadly and even got into a physical fight with her ex-husband!

Of course, this was information Emily and her team had gradually obtained from these criminals and their relatives after investigation, different from the earlier rumors.

"You threw your ex-husband into the pigsty, didn't you?"

Emily returned to her seat and sat down, "You figured that pigs are omnivores and could be used to dispose of bodies you couldn't handle. I have to say, you're quite smart. After all, your second husband was a butcher, so such a big commotion wouldn't raise any suspicion. But I'm also curious—didn't his parents wonder where their son went all these years?"

"What nonsense are you talking about? When did I ever have two husbands?"

Bronte's lips trembled, her face deathly pale, her voice hoarse and low.

"Bronte, you're so beautiful and striking, why did you become a demon? Aren't you the most devout believer? Your hands are stained with so much blood—aren't you afraid your son will go to hell?"

Emily let out a long sigh. The more she spoke, the more she felt a chill down her spine.

This seemingly frail woman had personally killed one person after another.

"Your son was indeed handsome, but you wrongly accused your ex-husband back then. I later found the companions who were swimming with your ex-husband. They said when your son fell into the water, your ex-husband was the first to jump in to save him. Unfortunately, there was a flood that day, and he was powerless to help."

Emily observed Bronte's expression and continued in a low voice.

Bronte suddenly raised her head, eyes bloodshot, glaring fiercely at Emily, "You don't know anything! What do you understand? He never intended to save my son. He wished my son would die so he could inherit all my property. He discovered my secret, knew I was rich, so he got greedy!"

Hearing Bronte's words, Emily finally understood.

No wonder Bronte had such terrible taste and could fall for a man like Mole—she had long since lost all hope in men!

"That money—I risked my life to earn it. I had only one goal: to give my brother, my son, and myself a good life. I never wanted them to suffer again. But that demon coveted my property. He was even willing to kill my son for those millions of dollars!"

Bronte's smile gradually became maniacal. She laughed wildly while tears involuntarily streamed down her face.

"You have no idea how much he deserved to die! I told him before that I could tolerate him living it up and finding women outside, but as long as he pretended to be a loving husband in front of my son, I would give him thirty thousand dollars a month. Thirty thousand dollars! How many pigs would he have to slaughter to earn that!"

Bronte's body trembled uncontrollably, crystal-clear teardrops scalding hot as they rolled down her cheeks.
