The Club
Gerard Point of View
There is a saying that the best laid plans are not fulfilled. As I watched the security video, my plans to escape from Silvia went out the window. She walked into my club looking very sexy. What was she playing? Did she think that tight dress would change my mind about us?
I heard the door to the security room open behind me and I hoped it was Chuck coming back from a break, but when I turned to look, I saw it was Noah. He approached me as I looked at the image on the screen. He pointed to where Silvia, her sister, Katy, and my grandmother's assistant, Andi, had taken seats at a table.
"Did you know this was happening?” Noah asked. I shook my head.
"No."
"Anyway, what is Andi doing here?” I turned to look at my brother, wondering why he cared if Andi was here or not. Look at that bastard flirting with her.
I stared at him for a few seconds, wondering if maybe he had something for Andi. I was about to tell her not to bother, because women brought more pain and suffering than they were worth.
"Andi is a tough girl. I think she can handle herself. Why do you care about her?"
Noah shivered slightly.
"I don't mind. It's just strange."
I turned my attention back to the screen, deciding that whatever was going on between Noé and Andi was none of my business, especially if he didn't want to tell me.
I watched as Jason Tollison made his way to his table. I better go get Andi, I thought. I'd rather have to kick Noé out of the club for hitting Jason than to get arrested and make the club look bad because he beat him up for hitting on Silvia.
When Jason leaned in and gave his trademark smile to Silvia, I had just the right angle to see her look at him in surprise and then smile back. It wasn't that high-powered smile he'd seen before, but it was enough for someone like Jason to take it as a sign.
"Oh.
"So that thing that was between you and Silvia and that you said was nothing...
"It's nothing," I said, trying to loosen my fists. Instead, I rested my hands on my waist.
"It looks like you want to beat him up.
"I often do. He causes a lot of problems here and I would hate for him to cause problems with Ronny's wife." You see, I could pretend this had nothing to do with Silvia.
Silvia got up from her chair and went with Jason to the dance floor. It was a fast song, so when they started dancing, there was enough space between them that I felt like I could hold on and watch from here. But soon Jason approached her and put his hand on her waist. Either Silvia didn't feel it because she was clearly lost in the music as her hips moved to the rhythm, or she didn't care. The problem was that I cared.
I left the security room and headed to the dance floor, my brain abuzz as I tried to figure out the best way to intervene without causing a scene.
Finally, when I reached them, I grabbed Jason by the shoulder and pulled him back.
"Do you mind if I intervene?
Jason looked at me.
"Hey, man, I've been good. You can't kick me out. "I looked over his shoulder.
"I am the owner of this place. I can do what I want. Why don't you go find someone else to flirt with? "I stood in front of him, blocking Silvia's way. I looked at her. Her eyes burned as she stared at me.
"What is your problem?" I gritted my teeth.
"I'm trying to save you from the embarrassment of making a fool of yourself.
Her eyes narrowed.
"It's a little late for that, don't you think? Anyway, why do you care? I'm sure you've already chosen your next Barbie to take home.
"No..."
"Oh, that's right, you don't take them home, you take them to the hotels. You fuck them and leave them, right, Gerard?
I didn't like that I was the one who looked like a crotchless asshole when she was the one who had strode into my club flaunting her curves all over the dance floor.
"What are you doing here, anyway?" I asked .
"This is a free country. I can go wherever I want.
"So this is just another one of your plans? You come here in your tight dress shaking your ass thinking that's going to change my mind about you?"
She raised her hand as if she were going to slap me. I was going to let her do it, since she thought she deserved it, but she stopped. Her expression was a mixture of hate and pain, and once again I felt like the biggest idiot ever. What the hell was I missing?
"You're a self-centered idiot. It was Andi's idea to come here. She wanted to spend some time with her friends, and she decided on this place. If it were me, I would have gone anywhere else because you are the only person in the world I never want to see again.
She turned away from me and headed to the bar. The rational side of me told me to let her go. After looking towards the corner where Andi and Katy were sitting watching me attentively, I realized that Silvia was telling the truth. Maybe she hadn't come here to show off in my face. But of course, anger and adrenaline had other ideas. I followed her to the bar, where I heard her order a shot.
"It's not a good idea to drink alone," I told her.
She looked at me out of the corner of her eye. She then turned to the innkeeper.
"Give him one too.
The innkeeper, Eddie, looked at me, not knowing what to do. I made a brusque gesture to him to indicate that I would also have a shot. When he placed the shots in front of us, Silvia raised her glass to me.
"For bad decisions and bad ideas. "She drank the shot.
I drank mine too, leaving the empty glass on the bar.
"Do you feel better now, princess?"
She gritted her teeth and turned to the innkeeper.
"I want another one."
"Don't do anything you'll regret tomorrow.
"I've already done a lot of things that I regretted the next day. All of them related to you. There's almost nothing I can do right now that will make me feel worse than that."
Her words hit me right where she wanted them. I was her regret. Of course, she was mine. So why the fuck did I want to grab her and kiss her senseless and then drag her out of here, take her to my loft, and make love to her until she stopped looking at me with that grimace and instead gave me that sweet smile that she gave me? Had she hit Jason on the table?
This time she didn't wait for me. She drank the shot. I took mine and drank it too. Then we stared at each other. With every second that passed, I felt more inclined to carry out my stupid idea of grabbing her and kissing her.
A hand caressed her shoulder.
"You've had enough, Gerard, don't you think?" said Noah.
My eyes narrowed as I looked at Silvia.
"I've had enough."
Andi and Katy also showed up.
"Come on, honey, let's go home," Katy said. She didn't look at me, but Andi gave me her "you're being an idiot" expression.
Angry with all of them, I pushed Noé's hand off my shoulder and left the club. I decided to head to my loft. The two shots I had drunk, along with the other two glasses of alcohol, did little to curb my anger and frustration.
"Hello, Gerard," Noé's voice called from behind me. I didn't stop to look, but I could hear his footsteps as he trotted closer. Finally, he came to my side.
"I'm not in the mood, Noah.
"Don't tell me, Sherlock.""
Part of me thought he and Andi would be perfect together, because they both had smart mouths, although this time he kept quiet and just walked beside me until we reached my loft. I entered the building and climbed the stairs, glancing at him from time to time with an expression that should have told him that he didn't want him there with me. He just looked back at me with a “what a shame” expression.
When we walked in, I headed straight to the bar.
"Don't you think you've had enough?" Noah asked.
“I'm still standing here, so I clearly haven't had enough.”
"What if I make you a coffee and you tell me what's wrong with your dick?
"I don't want coffee. I want to get drunk. You can come with me, or you can leave.
Noé shrugged and walked over to the bar. He grabbed a glass and handed it to me so I could serve him. I poured him a couple of fingers and then took the bottle to the couch.
Noé sat on the other couch across from me. He rested an arm over his back as he took a sip of his drink. His eyes watched me over the edge of the glass.
"I understand that you don't want to tell me what's going on, but what just happened at your club... Someone probably filmed it, and I know how much you hate having your nonsense appear on the Internet.
I ran my hand over my face.
"Oh.
"So, what is it about Silvia that has driven you crazy? You are in love with her?
"No. "I pointed a finger at him to emphasize my words". I'm not in love with her. "I took a sip of my drink because my heart was spinning in my chest, as if he was calling me a liar.
"Is it because of that shit in the magazine?”
"She set me up. "
Noé frowned."Because? To what end? "
I shrugged.
"Why are you all trying to justify it?”
"You really are a cynical son of a bitch, aren't you?”
"If you're going to stay here and drink with me, just drink." I don't want to talk about all this.
Noah shrugged nonchalantly. He finished his drink and then reached for the bottle. This time, he helped himself to half a finger. I drank from the bottle and, before long, I no longer knew if Noah was there or not.
I woke up feeling like someone was hammering my head and had scraped my mouth with sandpaper. And damn, my chest still hurt.
I dug my palms into my eye sockets. Opening it, I saw Ronny sitting where Noé had been the night before.
"The coffee is preparing. There is a glass of water and some painkiller for you to take.
"What has happened to Noah? " I managed to sit up, but with the room spinning, it was difficult to tell.
"Noé felt perfectly comfortable”
