Chapter 57

KALIA

I was extremely angry because of that damn breakfast, and honestly? I felt like I could take on anyone who crossed my path right now.

"THAT DAMN HUMAN!" I shouted as I threw my pillow against the wall, holding back the tears that burned with anger, "WHY DID SHE HAVE TO RUIN MY MOMENT WITH CALEB? HASN'T SHE RUINED ENOUGH ALREADY? ARGH!"

When I said I trusted Caleb's decisions, I meant that I trusted he would realize that putting his damn concubine and his fiancée in the same place... was not a good idea. But no! He just decided that we should get to know each other and maybe, get along with all of this.

I really wished that was a joke.

Yes, a tasteless joke, because there was no way something like that could happen, especially... because the way Caleb was talking, we were on the same level in his twisted view.

Me and a human? On the same level? Yeah, right...

That would never be reality.

Especially because that bitch kept teasing me throughout breakfast, insinuating things, like when she (even if not directly) hinted that I should make more effort to make that breakfast more enjoyable, that I should make an effort for... us to get closer.

She wanted that as much as I did.

She didn't want to be friends with me, she wanted to torment my life!

I messed up my hair in that moment out of pure frustration, but honestly? I shouldn't even be in that state, I had to remember who I was.

And who was I? A Hanover, and if there was one thing my family didn't tolerate, it was something inferior like Lianna, thinking she could stand up to me.

Because before she noticed, I would end the "relationship" or whatever she thinks she has with my Caleb, and then crush her, and squash her little head under my heel, just so she could learn where she truly belonged.

Which was exactly, beneath me.

But of course, before that, I needed to see what to do, but I would easily throw all my reasoning in the trash if that bitch chose another event of mine and Caleb's to ruin.

I wouldn't think twice before going for her jugular, but I would have to control myself, right? I was a noble, not a savage.

But it would be tempting.

Oh... how tempting it would be.

"I'm going to ruin her life! Nothing will come between me and Caleb! No one!"

DEVON

As I walked through the corridors of that ship, I saw Kalia Hanover freaking out like I had never seen before, along with a pillow that seemed to have been thrown on the floor, and her disheveled hair, as if she were some madwoman trapped, waiting to die.

"I'm going to ruin her life! Nothing will come between me and Caleb! No one!" That's what I heard her say right after, only to see her fists pounding on the mattress she was on.

'Hmm... a great way to start a plan to separate those two.' I found myself thinking after that, because honestly? Betrayed or sidelined women were more dangerous than any soldier.

Because at least with a soldier, you can predict what will happen.

"Excuse me, Miss Hanover." I tapped twice on her room's door, only for those furious pink eyes to glare at me with genuine rage.

"Who is it? What do you want?" She immediately questioned me, which only made me smile.

"Devon Malachi." I released my name with that fake surname I had used many times before, "I want to help you, Miss."

"Help me?" She scoffed and laughed, "help me with what? Are you some kind of spy?"

I just laughed.

"I'm better than that, my dear." I purred as I said, "but... do you want my help or not? If not, I can just... go on with my life."

The door was abruptly opened after I spoke, only for that pale face surrounded by light strands to look at me with determination, mixed with distrust.

"And so, Devon Malachi... how could you help me?" She asked, sounding so arrogant that it was clear she really was a pure-blooded Hanover.

One who, like her whole family, felt entitled to act as if they were on top of the world.

"I can help you with a suggestion." I whispered for only her to hear, my lips close to her ear, "make it seem like your husband's concubine is having an affair. Because when that happens... he won't want to look at her."

The heiress of the Hanovers looked at me with surprise, as if she didn't want to believe what I had just said, because as much as it was a good idea, it also meant that even if just a little... Caleb considered Lianna something in his life.

"How do I do that?" She asked me, seeming to have quickly set that thought aside, "do I start putting ideas in his head?"

"That's a good start, dear." I said, my eyes observing every microexpression she made, "but then, see if there's someone to be planted in her room, right when Caleb is nearby."

"You're truly cunning, Malachi." A smile appeared on her face, one that was extremely mischievous and sinister at the same time, "I'll see what I can do to get that human out of his arms...".

Obsession.

Obsession was what that crazy woman had with Caleb, but that? It was something that would be used to my advantage, and was already being used.

"But... why did you decide to help me?" Her eyes were full of questions, but in that moment? I simply curved my lips into a perfect half-moon.

"I'm just a charitable soul who appeared at the right moment and time... dear."
