Chapter 38

Narrator's POV.

Outside a ward at the clinic, Kai stood at the door, his hands clenched, as he watched his father lying helpless on the clinic bed.

He couldn't bring himself to go in, as the events, a few minutes earlier still had him shaken up quite a bit.

He had received the photos of Ellie, and a call from Orion. Seeing his sister in that state, threw him off guard, as he wasn't expecting her to be in any danger of the sort.

But, who was that? He wondered. The voice did not in any way, sound familiar at all, and as much as he tried, he couldn't seem to place a face to the voice.

Coincidentally, he was conversing with Lorenzo's Aunt, just before the message was sent. She was also worried about Ellie's whereabouts.

The moment she heard the news, she had lost consciousness at the spot.

She was quickly taken to the clinic by Klaus, where she was immediately placed for medical attention.

His father, as well, who had heard the commotion, had a heart attack and was taken straight to the clinic.

Kai clenched his fists hard, as rage bubbled within him. He had felt something was off, the entire time Ellie was missing.

She wasn't in her room and he became worried when he discovered her bed hadn't been slept in.

He was particularly upset that Lorenzo had turned a blind eye to it when he brought it up. Rather, he was focused on the other girl, Valerie.

His eyes narrowed, as he thought back to the episode in the room earlier. Seething, he was determined to teach her a lesson.

However, he consoled himself on the fact that Lorenzo was more than capable of bringing her back in one piece.

It has always been a series of issues, ever since she stepped foot into the mansion.

At the door where he stood, he watched his father from the transparent glass and his mother who sat beside him on the bed.

He pushed open the door slightly, walking into the room. His mother raised her head and on seeing him, she wiped a tear off her cheeks.

"He'll be fine, mother. Be rest assured." He consoled.

His mother, Nancy Moore, looked up at her son with misty eyes. Underneath, was laced with so much hurt and anger. Kai knew exactly what she wanted to say, even before she said them.

"I know, mother. But you can't blame her, you know? I mean.."

She stood up abruptly and swung her palm until it struck his cheeks. "Do not tell me that, ever again, Kai. How long? How long do I have to entertain this, this silly dramatics between you and your sister?" She wailed.

Kai could only hold the affected cheek, as he stood, sheepishly in front of her.

"I warned you! But you chose to do as you both pleased. Now, take a look at your father," She pointed to him, but Kai couldn't bring his eyes to stare one more time at him, without feeling guilty.

"Take a look at him, you brat!"

"Ellie was finally given a chance. Your sister is finally pregnant and now this!?" She yelled.

"This was all a mistake! She shouldn't be put in this position. Not with someone like Lorenzo."

"Mother...this is what Ellie wants, you know that. Her dreams are finally coming to reality. She is going to be Luna and we will..."

"Shut your tramp, you brat! You think I care about all these?" She asked, flailing her arms around.

"You think I care about titles?" Her voice came down in a whisper, "For heaven's sake, Kai. What if...what if she loses the child? You know what that means."

Of course, Kai knew exactly what she was talking about. Which was the same reason he had been worried.

Ellie had always been a loose girl right from a very young age. Her parent's attempts to curb her behavior weren't successful until she turned worse.

As a teen, she was quite promiscuous. One thing led to another on a fateful day, and Ellie took in. She was just 16 years old then and had resorted to pills.

No one knew she was pregnant. Until Ellie took some pills to abort. Unfortunately, and in a frantic attempt to get rid of the pregnancy, she has taken much more than was required.

Needless to say, she ended up at the hospital, on the brink of death, causing the whole family, to worry about the bones.

She barely survived. She would be lucky, they said, if she was able to conceive a child shortly. Which of course, could be fatal, if care wasn't taken.

When her parents heard that she was finally pregnant, her mother, especially, was delighted and relieved.

She was scared as well and was totally against it when Ellie began to get acquainted with Lorenzo.

"She'll be fine, Mother," Kai tried to urge her. But deep down in him, he doubted Ellie.

Ellie and Lorenzo and been together for over two years, and he knew for a fact that, becoming the Luna of the Silver Moon Pack had been her dream.

He knew she would do anything to get a hold of her position, and she knew just how much Lorenzo needed an heir.

Why now?

If she had taken in a year or so ago, the mating ceremony would have been done much earlier than now.

"Tell me the truth, Kai," his mother urged, maintaining eye contact with him, "How has her life in the mansion been? Lorenzo is a very dangerous man. He is trouble, and yet, she chose to remain with him."

Kai sighed as he wiped a tear from her eyes. His mother, ever so tough, always had the best interest for them all.

But he couldn't help but see things the other way.

"Ellie is strong, ma. She is not weak. She can stand up for herself and she has Lorenzo to take care of her. And yes, he might have a lot of enemies, but he takes good care of her, mother. You do not have to worry yourself."

He pulled her into his arms, as he tried to comfort her. He knew his father's condition was enough stress on her as well, and he wouldn't want anything to happen to her.

Back at the mansion, the maids were all, and about, preparing the meal for the day, while some were performing other chores around.

The chores were ordered by Ellie, who saw to the accomplishment of every task. But she was nowhere to be found now.

Valerie, who had just finished dressing up, stepped out of the room, in a white crop top and free shorts, which accentuated her long legs and minimal curves. A frown was on her face, as she slowly walked in the direction of the kitchen, her hands on her belly.

She heard the sound of a door opening just beside her as she walked. But, her attention was hardly on her surroundings. All she wanted was to find something to eat.

A screech sounded, and just as suddenly, a hand grabbed hers, pulling her roughly into a room.

Mia, who was among the maids in the kitchen, suddenly grabbed a plate of the meal, announcing that the Beta had asked for his meal.

She made her way out of the kitchen. Her eyes darted around every corner of the mansion, as she walked in fast strides. She got to the living room and paused, checking to see if anyone was in sight.

She froze, as she spotted a movement in the room. She stepped back for a moment, holding her breath for a few seconds, until...

"Mia?" A voice called out.

Mia almost tripped off her heels with the meal in her hand, at the sound of the voice behind her.

"Oh, my God. Lana! Don't scare me like that again!"

The girl, Lana, wore a confused look on her face, as she saw Mia at the doorway.

"Where are you going, Mia? There's no one in the living room." She said, her eyes resting on the dish on Mia's hands.

Mia bit her lips for a moment. She was a little relieved it was Lana in the room and not someone else.

She gave her a bright smile and replied, "I need to deliver this to...to the Beta. Yeah, he asked me to. By the way, the lady in the Alpha's room asked for a meal. I think you go to her. She can be quite crappy, know?"

At her words, Lana's face paled, "Oh, no!" And with that, she ran off to the direction Mia had come from.

The smile on Mia's face disappeared, as she walked into the living room. Placing the meal on a table, she walked straight to the door. Which she opened slightly, crouching lower.

Her hands raised the little rug at the doorstep and she retrieved a piece of paper.

On it, the words were written:

'Get the girl out.'

Love.
