CHAPTER FOURTEEN

In Heaven’s Point of View

I was locked in my room when I received a message from Leaf that Hans’s parents are at the hospital. I shrugged it off the first time because I thought that it was just a normal visit but when Leaf informed me that his parents are so mad of what happened and told him that he’ll come back home, I can’t help but to immediately stand up and try to catch them up.

I told myself not to be close to him because it would be better for the two of us. I tried my best not to be near him, to be close to him, to begin a conversation with him, to join him at the kitchen and ask how his day went and everything that I know that might lead me to be attached to him again.

But who was I fooling?

All my efforts of avoiding him lead to me almost losing him again and I can’t help it. I won’t allow that to happen.

Being a gangster, troubles follow wherever I go. I started to be immune to the pain. I actually started to enjoy the taste of the blood coming from my mouth whenever someone lands his punch on my face. But I’m always winning. We’re always winning.

But when my father told me that Hans will be back in my life, for the first time, I felt scared. I felt scared of trouble because I know that he might be affected by my wars. I felt scared of being close to him because I might cause him pain. I felt scared of losing him again. So if I need to stay away from him as much as I can so that I can still feel that he’s near, I’d gladly do so.

But still, amidst me being careful of all my actions recently, it still came to this point where I’ll have to lose him but I won’t let that happen. I don’t want it to happen.

When I entered the hospital, I immediately saw his parents rushing towards the parking area so I ran as fast as I can to be able to talk to them. For me, it is now or never. It’s either I’ll have him or I’ll lose him again. And who knows? This time, I might lose him forever and I don’t want that to happen.

When I finally reach their location, his father looked at me so confused of why did I rush my way to them.

“I need to talk to you, Mr. and Mrs. Lopez,” I told them frankly.”I am Heaven Ricaforte, by the way,” I added to introduce myself for them to recognize that I am one of Hans’s dorm mates.

“What do you need to say?” His father asked me.

“It’s about Hans, sir,” I informed them. When I mentioned his son’s name, he stood up straight making me feel intimidated by his presence but I won’t back down. I need to do this.

“What about my son?” He asked.

Mrs. Lopez just stayed beside her husband and listened to our conversation.

“It’s not his fault why he was placed in that condition, sir. Those guys who kidnapped him – they wanted to take revenge from us. It just happened that Hans was walking alone that time and they took that opportunity to get him from us,” I explained what happened and took full responsibility of it because it really is my fault. It’s something that I tried to avoid but failed to do so. “Sir, I’m willing to take all the blame for what happened. Punch me in the face! I won’t care. Just please, don’t take him away from us again,” I begged his father. I dropped my knees on the floor so that he could feel that I’m really begging. I’m so desperate. I can’t lose him!

“I agreed with your father because I thought that he would be safe with all of you. Why would I allow him to stay with you if you can’t even protect him from your own wars?” He said with authority in his voice. “I was once a gangster but I never allowed my wars to affect the people around me,” he then added making me feel a lot more irresponsible but I’m accepting it.

“Nobody wanted this to happen, sir. Just like you, I don’t want my wars to affect the people around me especially Hans. I don’t want to lose him again, sir. That’s the reason why I’m being careful about my wars recently. I don’t want him to be affected but I guess it’s too late now,” I tried to convince him. “Sir, your son is happy at our place and you taking him away from us means that you’re also taking this kind of happiness away from him,” I added even though he’s making his presence feel more authoritative. “I can’t promise you that he’ll always be safe. What I can assure you is that I’m willing to risk even my life just to make sure that he’ll be fine.”

“I will think about this,” he answered and opened the door of his car already telling me that they’re going now. “Tomorrow afternoon, go to Hans’s room to know our decision.”

When he said those words, I knew it meant something. I hope it meant what I think it does. Hopefully, it’s a good news for all of us.

Since I’m already at the hospital, I decided to check them at Hans’s room but when I already reached the door, I took a step back when I heard him crying.

No goodbyes for now. I know it’s not yet time to say goodbye.
