Chapter 114
Anna
"Your mother was an enigma. Everyone loved her. Everyone that ever met her." Azeal started, his eye glinting as if he could see her now.
Celia appeared from nowhere and gave him a small box and he opened it and took out a bunch of pictures.
"This was her when she was young, years away from having you." he smiled.
He handed me a picture of her.
It was like I was staring at a picture of myself.
"She's beautiful," I whispered, my lips trembling. She looked just like me.
"And you're not the only one who thought that. I was her best friend and she was mine. She was funny, smart and believed she get us all out of poverty. All she had to do was get one acting gig that would save her life."
I raised a brow.
Acting gig?
I didn't know my mother even acted.
"She got mixed up with the wrong crowd at some point and started selling drugs to go for her acting classes. I'll admit, the money was good. I even joined at some point but then she met a man."
"A man?" I frowned but unfortunately wasn't surprised.
"Yes, the most handsome man ever. Your mother was smithened by him, everyone was but he only had eyes for your mother... Thing was he was a mysterious man.... I didn't like him at first. Why would I? He was a drug lord but Candace, your mother didn't care. She didn't mind at all. In fact, she loved this man. It was the first time I had ever seen her in love with a man. Of course, I didn't want to destroy her happiness, so, I mostly tried to sound happy for her. Bestdes, she's was bringing home the big bucks. It was easy money and we were eating good, buying good clothes..."
"Boss, we have a problem," one of his men interrupted.
I felt the overwhelming urge to scream.
"What is it?"
"Valkov is dead,"
He answered.
"Shit," Azeal cursed underhs breath, his deamonor instantly changing.
"A moment please," he said to the man before looking back at me.
"You'll have to come back some other time, Aviana,"
My eyes widened.
"Absolutely not, you told me you were going to give me information about..." I snapped, shooting up from the couch in order to block his path.
"And I will but there's currently a crisis I have to deal with. You'll have to come back later."
"You take me for a fool, don't you?" I chuckled but there was no humor in it .
"You know I won't be able to do much so because I'm weak compared to you,"
Azeal had the decency to look offended.
"Humans and their fear for what's not chasing them." He shook his head.
"Look, Aviana. I respect you more than you know and I'll never do anything to harm you. You are my God daughter,' he said before walking past me.
He stopped just at the entrance of the door.
"Celia will show you out and inform you on your next assignment ."Azeal said and with that walked out.
I glared daggers at his back.
The bastard!
He was toying with me. There was only one person that had the upper hand in this and it wasn't me.
"Ready to go?" Celia the bitch asked with a smirk.
"Yes," I said, glaring at her before reluctantly following her.
"Are you okay?" Timothy asked as soon as I got into his car a block sway.
"No, I'm angry!" I said a little too loudly.
"Did something happen? Did one of them do something to you?" He asked, his eyes softening just a bit.
"Yes, they tried scaring me and I didn't get as much information as I wanted from him."
"What do you mean by scare you?" Tim asked,.still a bit worried.
"Why? What happened?"
Tim asked, sounding worried.
"Forget about it. How's the preparation coming along?" I asked Tim.
"Alice is working on it. By the end of next week, we should have something,"
"Great,"
"In the meantime, I have been studying the book Alice gave me and I think I can come up with something for protection at least,"
"Really?" I asked, feeling my hopelessness disappear.
"Yes, I'll start to work on it tomorrow. Richard in forensic will help."
"Speaking of forensic... here," I dipped my hand in my jacket pocket and took out the vial I had stolen from Azeal and then the ones from Duncan.
"I need you to check it out and tell me what it contains and what it's used for,"
Tim's eyes sparkled as he took the vials from my hands. He seemed more excited than I was.
"Brilliant. I'll get right on it. Where did you find them?"
"It's a long story," I sighed, not particularly in a good enough mood to talk about what I had discovered.
"Alright. Is Duncan back?"
"Not as of this morning," I answered with a sigh.
"Good. Enough time to do what you have to do, then,"
"Yeah," but there was one problem and it was that I missed him. I missed him so much.
"I'll drive you to where you can get a taxi. By the way, Sky called. He wants a report,"
"Shit," I forget he existed.
"What am I supposed to do? I can't tell him about what I've found out, right?"
"No, of course not. Just tell him the natural crimes they've committed. At least till we have evidence,"
"You're right, I'll do that."
Tim drove me to where I could take a cab and then a train home.
I got to the mansion two hours later with nothing but exhaustion in my bones.
