Chapter 48 Michael Addicted to Love
Amelia didn't go back to class after washing her face. Talking to Quentin had left her feeling irritated, so she decided to head up to the rooftop to get some fresh air and call Michael.
The call connected almost instantly, ringing just once before Michael picked up.
"Hey, did you sleep well?" Amelia asked.
"Yeah, I did," Michael's voice came through, still as warm and comforting as ever.
His voice was deep and magnetic, like a gentle breeze tickling her ear through the phone, oddly enticing.
"And did you behave?" Amelia continued, "I gave Eric a whole list of things to remind you about when I left yesterday. Did you follow them all?"
"I did," Michael chuckled softly, his usual intimidating demeanor melting away as he spoke to Amelia with incredible gentleness. "I was a good boy."
"I only had porridge for breakfast, had some ginseng soup around nine. Walked for just about ten minutes, didn't get too tired. I've already sent someone to get the prescribed medicine, I'll take it this afternoon."
Michael listed everything one by one, and Amelia couldn't help but smile as she listened.
He remembered and followed through with everything she had mentioned. This made her happy.
"Good boy," Amelia brought the phone closer, her tone softening. "I want to kiss you as a reward."
There was a brief silence on the other end, then Michael's voice came through even lower, "I'm at the Johnson Group right now. I'll come pick you up. Give me fifteen minutes."
Fifteen minutes?
Amelia blinked, recalling that yesterday, when she was at the Williams family, she had asked Eric about Michael's daily schedule and casually inquired how long it would take to drive from the Johnson Group to Prestige High School.
She remembered Eric saying it would take at least half an hour, and that was without traffic. How could Michael get there in fifteen minutes? Was he planning to fly?
In fact, Michael was indeed planning to fly.
As he spoke to Amelia on the phone, Michael had already calculated in his mind.
It would take him about five minutes to get from the meeting room to the rooftop helipad, and the private jet would take roughly ten minutes to fly from the Johnson Group to Prestige High School.
Fifteen minutes, right on the dot.
Compared to driving, the private jet would save half the time. He didn't want Amelia to wait too long.
Amelia had no idea that because of her words, Michael was already preparing to have the jet ready on the rooftop.
She didn't think too much about it, since she still had classes to attend, so she said, "No need to pick me up now. I have two more classes, but we can have lunch together."
"Alright," Michael replied in a low voice. "I'll wait for you outside your school at noon, okay?"
Amelia agreed and then hung up the phone swiftly.
Michael also hung up.
In the next second, he lifted his head, instantly reverting to his usual expressionless face, and said coolly, "Continue with the report."
"Yes, sir..."
A slightly balding middle-aged man in a suit stood up quickly, fumbling with the documents in his hands.
The large meeting room fell into a dead silence, with everyone sitting around the table looking stunned and nervous.
They were still reeling from the scene they had just witnessed.
What was going on?
Was the person who just spoke on the phone and said he behaved really Michael, the same Michael who was usually cold and ruthless like a devil?
Michael's expression was so gentle! His voice was low and even had a hint of a smile, with eyes full of affection.
This was terrifying!
Michael was in love?
Who had the charm to turn Michael into this? They were all incredibly curious about the girl on the other end of the call, Amelia.
Seeing the shock on everyone's faces, Eric, standing behind Michael, couldn't help but smirk.
These people had no clue.
They couldn't imagine that the Michael they thought was aloof and powerful actually had a soft spot for love.
When it came to Amelia, Michael wouldn't even think about putting on airs or acting cold. He wanted to keep Amelia in his arms all the time, never letting go.
In fact, Eric had discovered today that Michael had secretly taken a photo of Amelia's side profile and set it as his phone's lock screen wallpaper!
The photo was probably taken yesterday during dinner, with Amelia not even looking at the camera, too focused on her food.
After setting the wallpaper, Michael had stared at his phone screen for a good ten minutes.
Just when Eric thought Michael had fallen asleep with his eyes open, Michael suddenly picked up his phone and asked him, "Isn't she cute?"
Eric was speechless.
He had to take a deep breath and force a smile, replying, "Yes, Miss Martinez is indeed very cute."
On the surface, he seemed calm, but internally he was screaming.
Before this, Michael had never changed his phone wallpaper, probably didn't even know how to.
So Michael must have secretly Googled how to change the wallpaper and did it himself.
Eric found it amusing to think that the secretary who brought coffee to the office this morning didn't dare to breathe, while Michael, with a cold face, Googled how to change the wallpaper.
This was what Michael was like when he was in love.
The power of love was indeed strong.
As Amelia reached the rooftop, on the other side, in the hallway of the school building, there was a commotion.
Hearing the noise, Donny immediately came out of the office and hurried over.
With a stranger suddenly in the school, students from all classes were peeking out into the hallway to see what was going on.
"Hello, Mr. Dickson," the short-haired woman said, "I'm Aria, a reporter from River City TV. I already spoke with your principal, Mr. Adams, earlier. We're here to interview the girl who saved someone yesterday."
Aria showed her press pass, and Donny quickly shook her hand, politely saying, "Hello, Ms. Clark. Mr. Adams mentioned this morning that your station would be sending someone over, but I didn't expect it so soon."
"News is all about timeliness and relevance," Aria smiled politely, "Let me introduce you. This is Rex, the boy who was saved yesterday."
"We contacted Rex's mother, Ms. Glenn, and she wanted to come with Rex to thank the girl who saved him in person. Rex's brother also came along."
"It's currently break time, right? There's still half an hour before classes resume," Aria continued, "Mr. Dickson, would it be possible for me to interview Rachel from your class?"
"Of course," Donny replied, "Rachel is in class right now. I'll have someone call her out."
As he finished speaking, someone had already run into Class A to notify Rachel.
When Rachel heard that a TV reporter had come specifically to Prestige High School to interview her about the rescue yesterday, she stood up immediately, her heart pounding with anxiety.
How had this become such a big deal, with even TV reporters coming to interview her?
It was easy to be vague online, but if Aria asked about the details of the rescue, what was she supposed to say?
Then she heard the person in front of her say, "And not just reporters, the boy you saved and his family are here too. They want to thank you in person."
Rachel almost choked, her voice trembling, "What did you say?"
Thinking Rachel hadn't heard clearly, the person repeated.
"I said the boy you saved and his mother are here, along with two incredibly handsome guys who seem to be his brothers."
"They want to thank you in person. They're waiting for you outside, Rachel. You should go out now."
