Chapter 49 Rachel is Revealed (1)
"Did Rex and his mom, Lila, come too?"
Rachel's hands started to shake with panic.
If they did, wouldn't they see through her disguise right away?
But then Rachel thought, the girl in the video had a hairstyle and body shape similar to hers.
Today, she was wearing a mask that covered most of her face, and her hair was down, only her eyes were visible.
The situation was urgent yesterday, and the girl who saved the day left quickly. Standing in front of them like this, they probably wouldn't recognize she wasn't the one.
If her voice could give her away, she just wouldn't speak once she went out; that way, she wouldn't be exposed.
Thinking this, Rachel took a deep breath and walked out of the classroom.
As soon as she stepped out, she saw Quentin standing in front of a group of people, saying to the thirty-something Lila, "Ms. Glenn, so it was Rachel who saved Rex yesterday!"
Lila?
Rachel was stunned, and then she heard Quentin continue, "My grandpa has always wanted to take me to visit you and Mr. Church at your home. I didn't expect you to bring Rex here to see Rachel today."
But Lila clearly didn't recognize Quentin and asked, somewhat confused, "I'm sorry, you are..."
"I'm Quentin, Vaughn's grandson, and Rachel's boyfriend," Quentin quickly introduced himself.
Although Lila didn't go out much, because of Elton's status, she had heard of the famous figures in River City's political and business circles.
However, she wasn't interested in whose grandson Quentin was. What caught her attention was that Quentin was Rachel's boyfriend, which made her expression soften.
"You're that girl's boyfriend?" Lila's eyes couldn't hide her gratitude. "Thank you for risking your life to save Rex. We came here today specifically to thank her."
Elton?
Rachel's eyes widened.
The well-maintained, graceful Lila was Elton's wife? And this well-dressed, adorable Rex was Elton's youngest son?
Everyone around was also surprised.
Although Elton was often seen on TV news, his family had never appeared in public.
Who would have thought that the person Rachel saved yesterday was Elton's son Rex, and now Lila had brought Rex, Orval, and the media to personally thank her.
This was really impressive.
At that moment, Rachel's phone suddenly rang. She instinctively answered, and Jenny's excited voice came through.
"Rachel, why didn't you tell me you did such a heroic thing? I heard about it from Kismet."
"Mom..." Rachel started to speak but was interrupted by Jenny's enthusiastic excitement.
"Rachel, did you not know you saved Mr. Church's son and thought they were just ordinary people, so you left?"
"Let me tell you, you saved Mr. Church's beloved youngest son Rex's life. Now, our Martinez family owes a huge favor to Mr. Church."
"If our family encounters any trouble or needs any help in the future, Mr. Church will definitely go all out to assist us. You make me so proud!"
The more Jenny praised her, the more guilty Rachel felt, forcing herself to reply, "Mom, I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I want to keep a low profile."
Jenny immediately responded, "Why keep a low profile? You did a good deed, not something bad. Why hide it?"
"Is Mrs. Church at Prestige High School now? Hurry up and come out, and make a good impression in front of the cameras."
"That camera is live-streaming to the whole internet; everyone can see it. Maybe our Martinez Group's image will improve greatly because of you, and our stock might soar tomorrow morning!"
"By the way, Chris is good friends with Mr. Church's eldest son, Orval. He went to Prestige High School with them too. Have you seen him?"
"Have lunch with Chris and Mrs. Church. I'll come over too. I want to take this opportunity to get closer to Mrs. Church."
Jenny continued excitedly, "Rachel, this is a great chance for our family. It's all up to you now!"
Jenny's happiness was almost overflowing.
But the more Rachel listened, the more her hands trembled.
It was over.
Because of her vague post last night and not denying it when people asked, everyone now assumed she was the one who saved Rex.
But she never expected that the person who saved Rex yesterday was Elton's beloved son!
If Elton and Lila, such prominent figures, found out she was pretending to be Rex's savior, what would happen?
Rachel didn't dare to think.
She wanted to hide immediately, but Quentin's voice rang out from afar, "Rachel, where are you going? Come here, everyone is waiting for you!"
Rachel's body stiffened as she turned, feeling countless eyes on her.
She had no choice but to turn back around.
"Mom, mommy..."
Next to Lila, the well-dressed Rex nervously held Lila's hand, stammering.
"Rex, it's okay, don't be nervous."
Lila bent down and spoke gently to Rex, "Didn't you want to see the lady who saved you and thank her? She's right there, coming over now."
Rex was holding a band-aid.
Yesterday, when Amelia carried him out, she protected him completely. He wasn't hurt at all, but he saw that Amelia's arm was scraped.
But Amelia left so quickly, he didn't even get to say a word, didn't get to ask if she was hurt, and she was gone.
He felt so guilty.
Amelia got hurt protecting him.
Lila looked at Rex's nervous expression and couldn't help but touch his head.
Rex had a slight developmental delay. At five and a half, he still couldn't speak well or express his emotions, and he stammered when anxious.
Last night at home, even when it was time for bed, he was still holding a band-aid, not letting go of Lila's hand, saying he wanted to find Amelia and thank her.
Lila also wanted to find Rex's savior. Coincidentally, some media had contacted her, saying they had identified the girl who saved Rex online.
So, Lila decided to bring Rex to the school the next day to thank her in person, to show their sincerity.
Elton supported her decision.
After all, Amelia's actions were heroic, and the government wanted to promote this story and award Amelia for her bravery.
Orval looked at Chris beside him with emotion, "I never expected it to be Rachel who saved Rex. I don't even know how to thank you."
"Why thank me," Chris responded coldly as usual, "It has nothing to do with me. I'm not that close to her. If you hadn't insisted, I wouldn't have come."
Orval couldn't help but roll his eyes.
Chris was like an iceberg, even towards his family, showing no emotion.
Orval wondered if he would ever see Chris care deeply about anyone.
Under everyone's gaze, Rachel walked over slowly and reluctantly.
Lila immediately stepped forward, grateful, "Miss, we finally meet. Yesterday, you didn't want to give your name, but luckily you left your last name, so we could find you."
"Rex said you got hurt protecting him yesterday. He's been very worried." Lila looked down at Rex, "Rex, didn't you want to thank your savior? Go ahead."
Lila didn't recognize her!
Rachel breathed a sigh of relief.
But she still didn't dare speak, afraid her voice would give her away, so she pretended to be reserved and not very talkative.
Unexpectedly, Rex looked at her for a moment, then backed away in fear, "It's not her, mommy. She's not the savior."
