Chapter 101 HIS CONNECTION.

Chapter 101 HIS CONNECTION.

Asher

I wanted to visit Irina but I figured it would be better to ask Dima about her. When I returned home, my mother was at the door, pacing back and forth. It had been a while since I had seen her and a look of worry wasn't exactly common on her face.

I paused at the doorstep, observing the situation. Dima stood by my mother's side, he must have told her what happened today.

My mother's head remained lowered as she paced back and forth. Dima tried to get her to go back inside but she refused. I sighed before walking in.

Dima was the first to see me, his face practically lit up as he called out to my mother.

She looked up to see me and immediately rushed to meet up with me. "Where did you go? We've been worried about you." She said, her tone slightly raised, the worry evident in her voice.

I held her hand and led her inside the house. "Still you shouldn't wait outside for me dressed in so little clothing."

My mother's gaze was fixed on me but she didn't seem to hear what I said, she spun me around, her eyes scanning my body.

"Are you hurt?" I shook my head negatively and she finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Why didn't you try to contact Dima, he has been trying to find you since he left the hall. If it wasn't for Gregori that told him that he saw you leave he would still be out searching by now."

I looked towards Dima and he lowered his head a little. My eyes widened as I finally remembered him.

"How is Gregori, he was a little close to the stage when it went off." I said.

"He's fine. He has gone back to his residence to deal with the little wounds he has." She said, and I nodded.

I wanted to ask about Irina but I hesitated, I didn't want her to get the wrong idea. "Irina was the first to inform me about what had happened at the party. She has also returned home."

I nodded, breathing a sigh of relief. Thankfully no one got hurt because of me.

"You should get some rest now. I'm totally fine." I said, attempting to descend up the stairs but my mother held me back.

"Dima also told me that it was a planned attack and the target was the heir, and it was one of the Mafia World. Don't you find it dangerous?" She asked and I shook my head negatively. I had spent so much time with Nathaniel and gone through so many drills. It was about time for me to shake off the fear.

"We are investigating it. The association will soon be taken down." I said but her hand tightened around mine, her eyes widened.

"I still find it dangerous. They are so ruthless and have been around for years. I don't want anything to happen to you." She said and although I would have quickly replied to calm her down, I saw a concern in her eyes that I knew I hadn't seen before.

I blinked before managing to get some words out. "We'll handle it just fine. Don't worry."

My words didn't seem to assure her, but rather deepened her worry. She stared at me intensely before speaking.

"If it's too dangerous, you can give up this position of yours." She said and my eyes widened. At the corner of my eyes, I could see Dima inch forward but he stayed frozen.

I swallowed hard, "What?" I asked again, afraid I wasn't hallucinating.

I thought she was only worried I wouldn't be able to integrate myself into the world and the danger associated with this world but she was actually so worried that she would let me leave my position?

My mother sighed, holding my head tighter. "Ever since my return, I had taken the time to teach you everything I knew I could about this world and even made you the heir, it wasn't because I wanted it passed down to you even if it is your rightful place, but rather because I wanted to protect you." She paused. "If it's going to cause you danger then you can just leave the position be."

I blinked several times before I could manage to regain myself. She was actually worried about me?

She cared more about me more than this Mafia world to which I had so unfortunately been born into?

"I can have someone announce it tomorrow." She said but Dima cut her shut.

"Ma'am."

My mother raised her hand and turned back towards me but I spoke before she could.

"You don't need to remove me. I'm integrating into the world just fine. I'm not scared." I said, tapping her other hand which still held mine.

She opened her mouth to speak but I gave her a reassuring nod and she sighed. "Okay. But if you want to quit anytime just tell me." She said and I nodded.

I returned to my room in a daze. I was still fascinated by the fact that she placed me higher than I had ever thought.

She was actually willing to leave the family without an heir as long as I was safe. If she cared so much, how did she manage to lose me years ago?

I couldn't help but ask myself. I even wanted to think it was an act but that couldn't have been faked.

A knock soon comes on the door, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Come in." I said.

Dima walked in, his head lowered slightly. "I'm sorry I didn't warn you earlier."

"It's fine. No one could have expected they would change their tactic into something so dangerous." I said, the image of that blast replaying in my head. "There were probably no members present at that party."

Dima nods at my words. "I didn't find any suspicious person on sight and I ran a check on the faces I couldn't recognize."

I nodded as Nathaniel's face flashed right before my eyes.

That pleading look on his face made me think he had something to hide. I looked up to catch Dima's eyes.

"Investigate Nathaniel's connection to the Syndicate.”
