Chapter 67- No way again
“Quick.” I ordered August while I jumped down the stairs of the house. we were approximately ten minutes away form that basement they held me captive.
“Asher?” I called his name in the mind link. He responded in next second.
“Yes Luna.” He said.
“Hpw many are you?” I asked staright to the point. By my tone he must have noticed it too that io am in no mood to kill time.
“Excluding the injured ones, roughly a more four hundred wolves.” He said without missing a beat.
“Okay, come with two hundred of your most trusty men to the basement where she held her captive.” I said and finally opened the gate of our house.
“Did you tried to call out father through the mind link?” I asked as we make our way downstairs. He nodded but his eyes looked disheartened and I already know what his answer was.
“I tried but something is blocking our connection.” He said and I swear the hair on my neck straightened in fear remembering how Asher said the same words. I tried many times, but it was like something was blocking our connection.
“We don’t have time August, something is not right. I am not feeling good about it.” I voiced my thoughts.
We run and stopped till that old rusty house was visible. The gate of the basement was just outside the house, the gate was open. We stopped immediately and August turned into his wolf.
His brown fur coming out, radiating sunlight and he looked majestic. He sniffed in the air and I saw his wolf’s expression change.
He quickly run towards the basement and stood in front of the gate. He tried to take a whif of the surrounding once more before he finally turned back and signaled me to follow him closely.
I didn’t turn in my wolf form as my wolf was still recovering from the after effects of wolfsbane and poison. She have saved me a lot and I didn’t thank her much.
We slowly made our way into the basement; it was dark and rusty and full of smell of rotten blood. I tried not to puke, as soon I climbed down the stairs, the memories of me being captive hits me again.
Michael, Ravenna, me sitting on the chair, held tightly by the ropes, looking at the moon through the window. The only source of my sanity.
We walked slowly till we get in front of the gate, the same gate, beyond I was held captive.
“August.” I whispered and I know he listened because his ears perk up a little to me calling him. “Don’t just barge in without thinking.” I said and he stopped before finally turning back to look at me.
“Try calling father through the mind link.” I suggested and he closed his eyes before opening them again and they glossed over, I know he was mind linking father.
After a while he shook his head. “No response.” He said through the mind link.
I sighed. I guess this was it. “Okay then, lets just get ourselves done with it.” Together we pushed the door open and all the smell of blood and shit hits our senses.
August crumbled his nose in disgust and so do I. after a few seconds we were used to the smell. After all we are the species whose sole survival is depend on the main thing we called adaptation.
August was quick on his heels to check for the room but there was no one there. Just the two of us and of course that single chair, the ropes loose, nothing can compare my rage than seeing it.
“DAMMIT.” I kicked the chair, it flies towards the wall and broke into many pieces. “Dammit, dammit, dammit. We were yet again but fooled by them. it was all their plan.
“Alpha I am entering.” Asher told me through the mind link and it didn’t take him much to get the picture of the situation.
He didn’t missed a beat to understand what was going on, he slowly walked towards me until he was in front of me.
“Alpha. There is something I want to tell you.” he said without hesitation. I know Asher only means business, he didn’t beat around the bush and talked straight to the fact.
I rubbed my head; the signs of upcoming headache were prominent. August, after scanning the whole basement was quick to change back in his human form, I threw the clothes at him I bought with me.
“Just done with it already Asher.” I grumbled. I have been feeling like a used pawn from all this game. Ravenna. we underestimated her.
She was not working alone. she was never alone. we should have understood it from the single fact that we didn’t find any dead bodies of the witches. I killed a few myself but after we were gone to retrieve their bodies in search of any evidence for Reed, they just vanished in the thin air.
“There is something I wanted to show you.” he said, his voice low and there was a hint of distress in his voice. I gestured him to show us the way.
Neither me nor August said a single thing. We just followed him in silence. Asher walked slowly towards the gate, the very same gate we entered form.
Together we departed from the basement and slowly walked into the woods. the place where we fought.
I could still smell the blood of my wolves on the trees and the ground and it only increases my rage. There was only one burning question in my mind. Why? Why? Why?
Why doing all this? Why going for such lengths? For revenge? I don’t think, the dore seek of revenge can push someone to do something as reckless and foolish as Ravenna did.
If she wanted revenge, she could have exceuted it a million times before, when she got chance at the forst place. She didn’t killed me, neither I think she killed anyone, well directly except for one time, when she stabbed……
“Emmy.” I heard August calling me and then only I moved my head up and matched his eyesight.
A man, a young man, must be in his thirties. he was hanging from the single large tree, the vines crippled across his whole bodies, through the same vines he was banded to the tree. his eyes were the only thing which was untouched.
The deep ocean blue eyes. Just like Reed’s. my blood turned cold at the spot and I quickjly run to the other direction as i got the feeling of bile rising in my throat. I vomit at the sight of it.
“Emmy. August rubbed my back while Asher tried to pull down the body from the tree but as much as he tried to free it from the vines, they grew much more inside of him as if they were a part of him.
“Dammit. Why are they not pulling off?” Asher grunted and I tried to catch my breath. It was like something was suffocating me as I can’t get myself too look away from those ocean blue eyes.
They look so much like Reed and at the same time they were not. It was a message. A declaration from her side and I know what I have to do.
“Asher.” I speak and was equally surprised as August and Asher to hear my hoarse voice. As if to prove it, a single tear rolled down my cheek. I wiped it off immediately. Even it was not Reed, it hurt me like hell.
I walked towards the body and as soon as I was in two metre radius of him, the body falls down with a loud thud. The vines ejected out of his body on his own and the body rolled over before just stopping at my feet.
I gulped as I saw the lifeless body of human, dead in front of me. I kneeled down and closed his eyes before praying for him. may your soul found peace and sorry to got you all entangled in our mess.
“LOOK.” I didn’t have to ask where to look. My eyes widened at what I saw. There was a message written on the tree, with the blood.
As soon as I saw the blood there was a feeling of intense pain inside my chest. as if someone stabbed me right through my heart. It hurts, it hurts like hell.
It was the same feeling when I got rejected from Reed. Actually, way worse than it. my wolf whimpered and howled in agony and it doesn’t take me much time to understand the cause of it.
It was his blood. The blood of Reed. The tears fell as my eyes tried to resonates with my heart. My worse fear was becoming reality.
There were only three letters written on the trunk. I bit my lip trying to stop my tears as I saw only blood.
“I am waiting.”
