Chapter 66 - The Trap
“Did you get any report on him?” I asked Asher. I was standing in front of an abandoned building. It was now our hideout.
“No. nothing. As if he is disappeared in the thin air. I can’t trace him; he didn’t leave any mark.” He said and I can feel the annoyance in his voice. He was pissed at himself. We feel nothing but helpless. There’s a feeling of dread, helplessness I have been feeling since I have attended the council of alphas. Everything went downhill from that moment.
“Have you tried to track his scent?” he asked finally after a beat. I nodded my head.
“I did. But something is blocking our connection.” I said and just tried now, only to show my pathetic face in front of him.
“We will find him Luna. If it means to the end of the world. You have my word for that.” he said and I can see the determination in his eyes.
“He is lucky, he have you.” I commented and he smiled for the first time in front of me and oh boy! if he was not good looking.
“No, he is lucky, he has you.” he said. I blushed crimson. He complimented me for the first time since I met him.
“Let’s not worry about alpha, at the end of the day, he always comes around.” He assured. I hummed and deflected my attention to the other more concerning subjects.
“Anyways, what are the reports?” I asked.
“There is no traces of any witch. Even the witches we killed in our fights, their bodies have been disappeared. It’s like they never existed before.” he said and I arched my eye brow.
“And..? you look like there is more to say.”
“Michael is missing. I am smelling something is wrong. I can’t shake the feeling but you should have your guard up against yourself.” He was right. I also feel something was not right. Michael has to do something with Reed’s being missing. I am sure if that.
He walked towards me so that he could come closer to my ear.
“Alpha said something about a mole among us. A traitor.” He whispered and quickly get away. I heard August coming towards us and before I know Asher left with an excuse to meet the injured ones.
“Thank you, Asher.” I said and with that he was disappeared in the shadows.
“Here.” August handed me the extra pair of clothes God knows how he got his hands on. He didn’t looked in my direction and simply threw them in my direction.
I was quick to cover myself. They were of my size, they fit me like a glove.
“Did you tried to contact her?” I asked as I followed him to the safe area. Now, we were almost winning at every end. We have secured their base and now there were only two problems were facing.
First, we still don’t know where is the rogue king. Michael was his name. I gritted my teeth as I remembered how he treated me in that cellar. Oh! I will repay his debt thousand time more. Wolves always pays their debts.
Secondly, Reed was also missing. Last time he was spotted with the pack just before they were going to attack on the rogue’s hideout.
It was Asher who last saw him. He was with him but he soon ordered him to fight with others. I bit my lip. This was all getting frustrating. It has been so long since I saw his face.
All I want to do is to get done with this foolish war and get in the comforting arms of my mate and bury myself in him. My wolf craves him more than me.
“I did. She is not responding. I can’t find her. It is as if she suddenly disappeared from the world. but my wolf can still feel her presence.” He said, I could easily feel the anguish in his voice.
Now there is actually a third problem. Diana is also missing.
I placed my hand on his shoulder and pressed him assuringly. Nobody knows how much it hurts knowing your mate is alive but you can’t contact him or her. him and I, both of us were facing the same loss.
“I am sure she is fine. She is more than capable to protect herself.” I said and smiled lightly, August tried to smile too before his face’s expression changed back to grim.
“I am going to basement to meet her.” he said.
“Let father and alpha Jon complete their investigation first.” I interjected. I could feel his wolf was on the edge. Nagging him to do something, anything to find his mate.
“It was all my fault.” He whispered and I swear I have never seen him so low in spirits. My brother who always laughs and smile and shines like a bright sun was now on the verge of breaking down. My heart sank on the sight of him.
We patiently waited for both of them. it seems they are taking so long. I sit next to August and think about the good things I would do with my mate once this all will be over.
“How did you find me?” I asked to distract him from his thoughts. One’s mind is a powerful thing. It can change the whole personality based on what situation you are in.
“Your mate planned it all.” He said and my chest filled with pride. Reed planned it all along. He not only controlled his pack but also mine.
“Of course, he was not alone in this. All others supported him.” he said in addition to it and I know as much as he hated Reed’s guts, he was slowly but surely starting to accept him.
“What do you mean by others?” I asked. This time he finally looked at me with an expression as if I was stupid.
“All the other alphas remaining from the council of the alphas.” He said. my eyes widened at the mention of that.
“And where are they?” I asked instantly, realizing I haven’t met any of them till now. as if realizing it all together August stood on his feet, his eyes widened as well. As if he just solve a riddle.
“Fuck Emmy!” he shouted to himself. “We have been tricked.”
He said and I immediately know what he meant by that.
This was all a trap. A simple but complex-multi layered trap to capture other alphas. I was just a bait. It was a game of hunter and prey.
The game we all were used to. The hunter throws a bait and waits for the prey to take it, till then he only hides in the shadow and waited. Once the prey is spotted the hunter doesn’t move. He becomes more silent than ever. He waited till the prey takes his bait and boom.
I slapped my head. this was nothing but just a trap. We were the prey.
“Fuck! we have to inform dad and beta john.” I said and together we started running towards the very basement I was held captive.
