Chapter 48 — Her Downfall
“We're going back, young madam. It’s already seven in the evening,” Red said with the grey puppy in his arms. He was wearing a simple grey shirt paired with black pants. His handsomeness couldn’t be ignored, but Thea’s mind was all over the place.
She didn’t saw Ace after he left to take care of Cassandra. He left without saying goodbye, without proper words. Silly her! Why would Ace bid goodbye to her? They were only business partners?
“ARF! ARF!” The puppy’s bark snapped her back to reality. She stared at the cute little one and decided to take it. Red obediently gave it to her. She stroked his fur and tickled him, which made him wiggle his tail. It calmed her mind and she nodded before walking towards the yacht.
“Careful,” Red said and guided her carefully onto the yacht.
They had waited for Ace for an hour, but he never came back. So, Thea accepted his decision sadly. Cassandra was significant to him.
Right after the operator started the engine, the yacht moved away from the port. Red was with the operator, ensuring that everything was running smoothly. Red glanced at Thea, who was facing the island, and he suddenly felt pity for her. If it weren’t for the problems in Caprus, his master might be laughing with her right now.
“I’ll be in my room,” she said and looked at the island one last time before walking towards the room. The yacht was huge, and the room was at the edge, so it was quite far away from Red and the operator. Although she was heartbroken, at least she had a cute little puppy in her arms.
His eyes were black and innocent. He was really cute, and she immediately wanted to cuddle him. Even though Ace wasn’t present, she was relieved to have Ace’s cute little present with her. At least it warmed her heart.
“There. Suit yourself, my dear son.” She didn’t know why she called the puppy son. But she did and she felt satisfied.
She let the grey puppy wander around after closing the door to rest. She slammed her body on the bed and felt comfortable on the soft cotton. The room's temperature could be adjusted with a remote and there was a flat screen TV and refrigerator. It was more like a mini house than a room. There was even a small dining table and a clean bathroom.
She counted to ten and her eyelashes began to droop with exhaustion. As she drifted to sleep, some memories flashed—both happy and painful ones. After about three minutes, she fell asleep while hugging the puppy.
An hour later a strong storm came, and the waves grew wild and huge. They were almost at the port. After thirty minutes they might reach the city, but suddenly, lightning struck the center of the yacht, which burst into flames.
The engine started to malfunction, and they knew that it was no use anymore. Red started to panic. Not for himself, but for the young madam who was sleeping silently at the edge of the yacht. If his boss found out, he would be doomed for sure.
“Release the speed boats from each side of the yacht. Use one of the boats to escape, then I’ll follow next. Hurry!” Red instructed the operator, who just nodded without a word.
He tried to call for help five consecutive times but when no one answered, he decided to run fast. His back was covered with sweat, and his jaw dropped when he saw the blazing fire. The other half of the yacht had already burned to ashes.
The room! The room was gone in an instant. The young lady and her dog were nowhere to be found. If he crossed to the other side, he would surely burn up.
But then Red spied the figure of a woman floating in the sea. She felt heavy and her lungs were clogged with smoke. When she was about to drown when a cute little paw made her fight to save not just herself, but that sweet puppy too.
“Oh God!” She swam to a part of the yacht that had burned and hopped on with her little puppy, who was trembling from the cold. She looked around and when she saw nothing, she was terrified.
What happened?! She was just resting in the room and when she woke up, she was floating in the sea.
With her trembling body, she laid down and cuddled the puppy. She cried silently and prayed for her safety. Was this the end? What about the prophecy? What about him? With her pale lips and teary eyes, she murmured the name of a person who was dear to her before she was eaten by darkness.
“A-Ace, help m-me…”
