Van's POV
"I hate you." he said glaring at me.
I shoved my hands in my pockets looking down. I know I know I can't do anything right.... Here I say I want to friends again but I'm not even hanging out with him. But then again we are adults. We're gonna be busy. But I should still make time.
"I'm sorry." I said and he looked away then turned his back facing me.
I could feel it. Sadness.... pain... and I knew it was all because of me.
"Lenny." I said and he froze.
"Now you call me Lenny." he said turning to face me again.
He was.... crying.
"Len." I said frowning and hugged him but he pushed me away wiping his eyes roughly.
"We were drunk...." he mumbled and I tilted my head.
What is he talking about?
"We-We..." he looked away wiping his eyes.
"We what?" I asked as I felt rain coming down lightly.
"Just go home to your wife." he said looking down.
You always bring her up as a wife. You never say Marion but wife. You don't like her. I can tell.
"Len, you're unhappy." I said.
"No kidding." he sniffled.
I was supposed to make you happy. That was my mission. To make sure you had a great life but in the end I always fail....
I was walking to my class when I saw a tall guy knock a guy's books onto the floor. I sighed shaking my head. Some of the jocks thinks it's fun to bother the freshmen. I glared at the guy as he walked away but then I saw the freshman about to fall over. I ran over to catch him. It took him a while to look at me. His eyes were something, they were unique. I smiled and instantly he looked down.
At lunch I saw him lost. He had nowhere to sit so I told him to join me. Then I drove him home. I was trying to help him feel belong. I wanted to help him and get him out of his shell. I never knew we would get so close and be best friends.
"Van!" he yelled and I looked up at the bleachers with my eyes wide. "You can do it! Win for our school!" he yelled and the crowd started to cheer with him.
I smiled brightly. I lost but what he said made me courage.
"Hey Len." I said after the game.
"Va-Van I'm sorry about... well us losing but-" he started.
"Thanks." I said smiling brightly and his face turned red.
"Your welcome." he said smiling softly.
There's that smile. I want him to smile more. He's so shy. I was his only friend which might be the problem. I got him close to me and didn't help him get other friends.
So when I started dating Marion
he was alone.
"I'm gonna go home." he said and I looked up at him. He was drenched in the rain and so was I.
"Len.... I'm sorry." I said. "I'll leave you alone." I said and his eyes widen.
I turned away and walked quickly to my car. I better get home. I didn't look back
because I was afraid to see if he wanted that. For me
to go away.

I read my book silently looking out the window once in a while. It was raining hard. When I got home, nobody was there. Like always, as soon as Vincent started dating Sammie I was alone. Marion is rarely ever here. And when she is I make the best of it. But she's been hanging out with her friends lately.
"I'm home!" a voice said and I got up quickly running to the door.
"Mari-" I began to say but my smile vanished when I saw a guy next to her.
"Who's this?" I asked glancing at the guy then her.
"This is Robinson." she said smiling. "He's one of my coworkers and also my friend." she said and the guy put out his hand.
I shook it then let go. I glanced at both of them. "Uh but what about dinner?" I asked.
"Oh." she said frowning. "Van, I already ate out with Robinson since you didn't come home." she said.
"Oh okay." I said then closed the door behind them.
Robinson sat down on the couch and Marion went upstairs. I followed her into our room.
"Why is he here?" I asked standing in the doorway.
"No need to be jealous." she said smirking. "He got a divorce and his wife kicked him out.
That word almost made me jump. I hate that word.
"Oh." I said swallowing hard.
"So he'll be spending the night if you don't mind." she said unzipping the dress she wore.
"Can't he go to a friend's place?" I asked.
"Actually, can you go over to Lenny's." she said and my eyes widen then I looked down.
"Uh.. why?" I asked.
"I remembered that tomorrow the carpets are going to get cleaned." she said slipping her dress off.
"So I have to go but bird man doesn't?" I asked raising an eyebrow with my arms crossed and she scoffed.
"Van don't be rude. And him and I have work tomorrow, you're always home." she said walking into the bathroom.
"I have a job too." I said as she closed the door.
"You're off tomorrow." she said and I heard water.
"I'm going for Le-" I started to say but remembered what had just happened.
"Why do you always do things for him but not for me?" she asked.
"What do you mean?" I asked pulling my shirt off.
"Van, I sometimes wonder if your having an affair." she said and I froze then pulled my shirt down.
"Me too." I said and left the room slamming the door behind me.
