Chapter 159 MADNESS OF BLOODLINES
Chapter 159 MADNESS OF BLOODLINES
AUTHOR'S POV
"I told you that I did not feel too comfortable doing business with that man," Helen said, her nose turning up to her husband.
"You did, didn't you?" Wolfe asked. He could not deny that she had said that, and not once did he take her seriously. He and Thanore had been through a lot together, and it only made sense that they stuck together. If the deal he had made with Luien had gone through, then they would have been sitting on a gold mine by now.
"I did; I always said it, and the entire Wolfe family is about to go down because of your mistake." They knew it was only a matter of time before they got here, and they did not have enough time to hide what they had done. It was going to be open to the public soon, and there was no way they could avoid the consequences.
"Now is not the time to shift blame." Wolfe would have been the first to want to point fingers, but because they were in this mess because of him, he did not think it was the right time to do this.
"Of course it isn't; it has never been, but if you had listened to me in the first place, then we wouldn't be in this mess right now."
"It's okay if we are the ones that go down, but Cassian? He is coming down with us," Helen added with a stern expression.
"If he were squeaky clean, then he would not need to go down with us," Wolfe threw back.
"I was not the one who made him do all of those things," Helen said, her face reeling in shock. "He did all of those things because he wanted to."
"Instead of us going in circles, we need to find a way out of this mess."
"Do you have a way?" Helen was not asking but mocking as he fell back into her chair. "The entire world already heard that man talk about everything on the internet, and then you also spoke with him. She took deep breaths and rolled her eyes as deeply as she could.
"I just do not understand why you both could talk about something like that so freely over the phone."
"It's not the first time," Wolfe shrugged. Even when they spoke about hurting the Verlice family before they did over the phone, it was even more secure for them than any other method.
Cassian strolled into the house and walked past the living room, where his parents were seated. "Cassian?" Helen called, and when he refused to stop, she ran out after him. "Cassian Wolfe! "You get yourself ere this moment," she said, her eyes narrowing in anger.
"What do you want from me?" Cassian turned his back to her. Tensed up in anger. He was blaming his family for what was happening to him, even though he had his fair share of crimes; the world did not know that yet.
"What are you doing home so soon?" Helen was trying to act as if things were rosy, and Cassian was not ready to play that game with her. He turned, and with his head tilted and low, he smiled, but it was fake.
"What am I doing home so soon? Is that the question?" He asked, and Helen nodded, ignoring how rude and off-putting he was being.
"I mean, I thought you had that surgery." Helen snapped her finger in the air, trying to remember what surgery it was since he had mentioned it in the morning.
"Liver replacement?" He muttered, and she nodded after snapping happily in the air. "The patient and their family did not want me to do it."
"But they must have been the ones who wanted you to do the surgery in the first place, but they wanted to change surgeons? And the hospital let them?"
"Who would want a murderer and kidnapper's son to operate on their family?"
"What does that have to do with you? "This is your father's crime," Cassian sighed exasperatedly. He did not know if his mom was being oblivious intentionally or if she did not know what was really going on. "But you should have at least remained at the hospital for the day; returning home means that you are..."
"Means that I am what? I can't bear the stares of my co-workers who have always held me in high regard. They do not speak when I get into the room and act as if I am invisible when I am talking to them." Cassian ran his hand through his hair and wrestled with the air angrily. "How am I supposed to survive in that?"
"Leaving means you are acknowledging that it happened, and you should not be..."
"Do I need to acknowledge it?" Cassian's voice was so high that it made Helen flinch. "I do not need to acknowledge it for everyone to see how true it is; the news is all over the internet, and it has ruined my life."
He stomped his feet angrily in spite and pointed at her face. "I said that I did not trust him one bit, but you all just let him. Did you think he was going to be good because he was pretending to be good? No one does business and then turns out to be one hundred per cent good. Lucien is a businessman."
Cassian turned, ready to leave them alone in the room by themselves, when Wolfe came out and stood beside Helen; they both quietly scrolled through something on the phone constantly, at intervals looking up at him with worried expressions.
"What is it again?" Cassian was tired of the entire situation.
"It's nothing; why don't you go rest upstairs?" Helene said, to the shock of Wolfe. He looked at her to be sure that they were supposed to be hiding this from him. Before, everything he had been going through was because of his family, but now his crime was being spread all around, and people were being shocked that he was not the great surgeon that they all thought he was.
"Yes, yes! Why don't you go to..." Wolfe's high-pitched voice is cut off by Cassian snatching the phone out of his hand.
Cassian's eyes run through the phone, and his heart rate increases. "What the hell is this?" he asked, even though he knew that his parents could not necessarily answer the question.
"Is Lucien poking at me for fun?" He screamed even more. "Am I a plaything to him?"
"I think I should..."
"I do not care what you think." Casian tossed the phone down and turned angrily, leaving them alone, only to reappear a moment later, a bag in hand, as he hurried for the door.
"Wait! Where are you off to?" Helen gasped as he sped past them. She was behind him, trying to match his pace as she caught up to him.
"Out of this madness, don't look for me until I can no longer be charged," he said and slid into the car he had come in with, starting the engine and zooming off.
"See this madness?" Helen asked through gritted teeth at her husband when he joined her by her side. "This madness is all because of you!" Her voice was so firm that Wolfe did not know what to do.
"I am sure there should be a way out of this."
"Don't you dare do anything again." She turned, pointing her finger in his face. "Don't you dare." She turned and walked, her heels clicking on the ground, unaware that she was about to face her own round of embarrassment with the media before nightfall.
