Chapter 158 THE WEAK LINK

Chapter 158 THE WEAK LINK

LUCIEN

"What?"

"I am afraid that if we want to book Yvette for the crime of kidnapping children, then we need to find another witness." Zane's words made no sense to me.

"Explain this to me like I am five because it seems like the stress of the day is already getting to my head, and I am unable to understand anything."

Zane had told me that he spoke to Michael, and he was ready to fight against Yvette. Shouldn't that be the right response to her treating him like trash? Why was his response suddenly changing? "Did something happen? Something that I should be worried about?"

"Nothing special happened, but it seems like Yvette had a conversation with him when she dropped Nirelle off at the ward."

"She spoke with him?" I am still lost on how that affects him confessing to what she had done to put her away.

"And she managed to convince him that she did all of that for family, and she was sorry and all of that madness."

"But he saw her kidnap her daughter for the second time."

Zane took a deep breath, and even though I was hearing it firsthand, I still could not believe what I was hearing. "Are you saying he still wants to forgive her even though he has seen all she can and will do to climb up? He still wants to forgive her?"

"Apparently, he lives here, and this is his way of showing his love to her."

"Oh, the actual hell?" I said, 'Ready to cuss down.' I had thought it would be an easy in and out. She kidnapped the kids with the help of Enoch, kidnapped her husband and faked his death while stashing him away in a mental institution, and was a standby to watch Enoch abuse Nirelle sexually while also abusing her physically, once again kidnapping Nirelle and stashing her away in the same mental institution as her father.

"Do you want me to come talk to him?" I say, be ready to storm out of there at once.

"I do not think that is a good idea," he was already ready to say the reasons before I could even ask. "Nirelle is here, and since they are still roaming around as easily as they can, I do not think you want to lead them here."

"You are right," I said as I sank into the couch. Going there to talk to Michael was a facade. The real reason was supposed to be so I could see Nirelle, but he had called me right out on it. "Okay, but then what are we going to do now?"

"You can look into other ways to get evidence; maybe talk to Enoch. He might be cruel enough to want to rat her out since he was going down."

"And you talk to Michael; try and see if you can get him on board."

"I have been trying, but I won't give up."

"That is exactly what I want to hear," I say.

"Zane? Are you in here?" I hear Nirelle's voice over the line, and my breath hitches in my throat.

"I am in here," he called as I heard the door close.

"I am craving a big bowl of ice cream sundae. Do you think you can..." She paused as if something had happened, and before I could turn frantic and begin to ask, she was speaking again. "Is that Lucien?"

"Do you want to speak to him?" Zane was not supposed to let us have contact, yet he was asking her that. I do not know what was happening because I could not see, and I hate that right now. "Okay then," he said and then cleared his throat. "Why don't you go to the kitchen, and I will meet you there?" he said to her, and Nirelle's bubbly voice was gone.

"Do you want to ask me how she is doing?" Zane's voice cut through the air, piercing through my thoughts.

"Yeah!"

"She misses you a lot, but other than that, she is fine."

"What did the doctor say? Did they do a comprehensive test on her? Did they..."

"I just told you that she is fine." He was talking as carefully as he could. "If you do not believe me, then maybe you should come and check it out for yourself," he added, and I rolled my eyes at him.

"It's fine, as long as she is okay."

"I have to go now; you heard that she is craving some ice cream." Zane was ready to get off the call. "I will let you know what the result of my discussion with Michael is by morning," he says, and before I can say anything else, the phone is beeping dead in my ears.

I lie on the chair as I think of how this would have gone if I had not taken action. Would Nirelle have gotten hurt? What if we had been late?

I push the thoughts out of my mind and begin to scroll through the internet. I was the one who caused the chaos, yet it was still good to see what people thought about it. I did not know when I had dozed off until my phone rang, waking me up. It was already morning by then, and it meant I had worked all night.

"I am going to see Mr Thamore, so find out where he is," I say, and my driver nods with complaining even though it is obvious that he has no idea where he is supposed to be. I stay in the car while I watch him try to find the answers.

'Cassian and his mom are already out on the news, and it seems they have done pretty many illegal activities in the hospital in the past year that it is enough to put them away forever.' I stare at Theo's message.

'I do not care how it is done; just put him away,' I send back.

The driver comes in and then begins to drive; moments later, we pull up at the station. "Mr Vexley, are you here?" The head of the station where Enoch had been taken came out front to meet me when he heard that I was around.

"Yes, to see Enoch. I hear that he has been taken in already."

"Yes, he has been taken in, but..."

"I know the rules and that you can't allow me in to see him, but I am sure you can make an exception for a few minutes." He looks like he wants to be rejected but can't because he has been put in a tight corner.

"Okay, but only for a few minutes," he said as he motioned in the direction he had come from. "This way"
