Chapter 746: William Is Dead

The doctor arrived quickly.

After a series of tests and examinations, the result was confirmed.

"Mrs. Lancaster, you are indeed pregnant. Congratulations!"

No one had expected this-not even Anna herself.

The fatigue she had been feeling for the past few days, which she had attributed to the weather, turned out to be caused by the little life growing inside her.

"I really have a baby?" Anna's voice trembled with joy.

Adrian held her hand, his expression radiating visible happiness.

"All the symptoms were so obvious these past few days, and yet I didn't notice," Anna said, a wave of guilt washing over her.

Adrian echoed her feelings. "It's my fault too. I should have noticed."

Hearing him blame himself, Anna couldn't help but let out a helpless smile.

The doctor reassured her, "Mrs. Lancaster, don't worry. The baby is healthy."

Upon hearing this, Anna felt less guilty, but she still thought it would be prudent to go to the hospital for further confirmation.

"I'm not at ease. Let's go to the hospital for a more thorough check-up, just to be sure," she suggested.

Adrian readily agreed, and the group quickly prepared to head to the hospital.

While they were busy undergoing detailed examinations at the hospital, Alex was making progress elsewhere.

Thea had been temporarily detained, but she adamantly denied harboring any ill intentions toward Benjamin.

When interrogated, she shifted all the blame onto Trista.

When Alex learned that the accusations had been pinned entirely on Trista, he nearly stormed off to confront Thea.

The police stopped him, and after further investigation, they discovered that it was Trista who had abducted Benjamin.

After a search, Trista was also brought to the police station.

When the police apprehended her, Trista was utterly bewildered.

"I haven't done anything wrong! Why are you arresting me?" she protested.

She received no explanation along the way and only began to piece things together when she saw Thea and Alex at the station.

Before being taken away for questioning, she snapped at Thea, "Thea, how dare you set up your own mother?"

After a round of questioning, the police unraveled the events that had transpired.

It turned out that Trista had abducted Benjamin under Thea's instruction.

However, Thea continued to deny everything.

During a face-to-face confrontation, Trista hurled curses at Thea.

"Thea, you little wretch! Admit it already! You're the one who made me do it! Now you want me to take the fall for everything?"

It was only during questioning that Trista learned Benjamin's kidney had been removed, and he might not survive. She was terrified.

No matter how bold she was, she couldn't bear the weight of a human life.

Despite the verbal assault, Thea refused to admit to anything.

She was counting on the police having no solid evidence against her and eventually releasing her.

In the end, however, both she and Trista were detained.

"Why should I be locked up? Benjamin was taken by Trista! It has nothing to do with me!" Thea screamed in protest.

The police, however, presented evidence proving that she had instructed Trista, leaving Thea speechless.

Thea realized she had been careless.

She hadn't anticipated that both she and Trista had committed offenses, making it impossible for her to clear herself of all charges.

Alex was dissatisfied with the temporary detention and awaited sentencing, but with Benjamin still in the hospital, he knew the final judgment would depend on Benjamin's condition.

When Alex left the police station, he planned to contact Andrew but received a call from Mr. Cofer instead.

Seeing Mr. Cofer's name on the screen, Alex's first thought was that the man might be calling to demand money again.

He hesitated for a few seconds before answering.

But then he remembered he had asked Mr. Cofer to look into William's whereabouts.

Just as Alex was about to pick up, the ringing stopped.

Before he could call back, a text message arrived.

The sender was Mr. Cofer. Alex opened it immediately.

What he saw left him frozen.

William was dead.

Alex couldn't believe his eyes. Even after rubbing them, the message remained the same.

Without hesitation, he called Mr. Cofer back.

The call connected, but no one answered.

Alex grew more anxious, desperate to know if Mr. Cofer was lying.

After what felt like an eternity, the call was finally answered.

"What do you want?" Mr. Cofer's voice was slightly annoyed.

Alex hurriedly asked, "Mr. Cofer, do you have news about my father?"

He didn't even dare to ask outright if William was truly dead.

Despite everything William had done over the years, Alex couldn't completely sever his feelings.

William might have been a scoundrel and a troublemaker, but he was still their father.

He could be a disgrace, but he couldn't just die like that!

"Didn't I send you a text? What, you don't believe my information?"

Mr. Cofer's tone was devoid of sympathy, as if discussing someone's death was the most mundane thing in the world.

Alex could no longer keep calm.

"Mr. Cofer, could you tell me exactly what happened? How did my father die? Where is he now?"

Impatient, Mr. Cofer handed the phone to Timmy. "You tell him."

Had it not been for the money Alex owed, Mr. Cofer wouldn't have even bothered with him, let alone let Timmy investigate William's whereabouts.

Timmy, efficient as ever, had quickly traced William's last known movements.

Following the trail, he uncovered the truth.

William had gotten drunk, fallen into a river, and drowned.

If not for Timmy's investigation, William's body might have remained in the river for much longer.

However, instead of reporting it immediately, Timmy had chosen to inform Alex first.

A drunk man drowning in a river hardly seemed like an emergency to him.

Taking the phone, Timmy spoke directly to Alex.

"Your dad drowned. He's in the river near your house."

When Timmy went to check, William's body was still floating near a bridge pillar, hidden and unmoved.

Knowing the body wouldn't drift away anytime soon, Timmy hadn't bothered to be the one to "discover" it. Instead, he reported back to Mr. Cofer.

If nothing changed, Alex would find himself the first to discover the body.

Hearing this, Alex asked in disbelief, "You're saying my father drowned?"

William knew how to swim. How could he have drowned?

Timmy explained, "He was probably drunk when he fell in. I checked the surveillance footage-he had been drinking heavily beforehand."

With that, Timmy hung up after providing the exact location.

"If you don't believe me, go see for yourself," he added before ending the call.

Staring at his phone, Alex's initial panic gave way to a cold calm.

Drunk and drowned.

It seemed plausible.

Recalling the last few times he had seen William, the man had reeked of alcohol. Alex frowned.

Whether William was truly dead or not, he had to go to the location Timmy mentioned and see for himself.
