Chapter 575 Comforting Chloe

Chapter 575 Comforting Chloe

I'm not really blaming Grace. I just felt that apart from me, there shouldn't be any urgent call important enough to make her leave like that.

To be honest, I was being petty and feeling jealous for no reason.

Grace explained, "Didn't you ask me to rent an apartment outside? I contacted several places, but wasn't really satisfied with any of them. Yesterday I contacted another one and arranged to view it this morning. I'd seen the same type of unit in that building before. Yesterday the landlord cleared out the apartment and called me early this morning. I was actually planning to ask you to come see it with me. When we were at the baby store, the landlord called saying he was waiting for us at the apartment, so that's why I had to leave in such a hurry."

So that was what it was.

The original plan was that if Grace didn't move back in, we'd rent an apartment outside. Now that Grace had already moved back, I'd pretty much forgotten about this whole thing.

I patted Grace on the shoulder and said, "It's okay, it's okay. Today was completely an accident. What Chloe said was just said in anger, you don't need to take it to heart."

Grace shook her head, still shaken, "You didn't see the look in Chloe's eyes when she was lying on the ground. She was barely hanging on herself, but she was so fierce toward me, insisting that I deliberately harmed her child."

Just then there was movement from the emergency room. Grace and I quickly jogged over to the emergency room door.

Olivia was talking with Bob. The baby was gone, but the mother's condition was basically stable. However, Silverline Hospital's specialty was obstetrics, and for the follow‑up treatment of Chloe's physical injuries, it would probably be best to transfer her to Evergreen Hospital.

Bob couldn't possibly disagree. He just asked to go into the emergency room to see Chloe.

Olivia nodded, indicating he could go in. Seeing this, Amelia immediately followed him in. After all, it was a delivery room, and I couldn't possibly go in while Bob was there.

Grace also wanted to follow them in, but Olivia quietly stopped her. Only when she was sure Bob and Amelia couldn't hear the conversation outside did she lower her voice and say, "Don't go in. Chloe's been cursing you out in there. If you go in now, you'll just be asking for humiliation."

Hearing this, Grace looked so wronged, unable to defend herself.

Just as I was about to help Grace leave, Olivia quietly said to me, "Don't go. The person Chloe wants to see most right now is you."

After a while, Bob and Amelia came out of the emergency room. Olivia told Bob to hurry downstairs to handle the discharge and transfer procedures, and indicated that Amelia should go with him. She specifically had a nurse accompany Bob through the entire transfer process.

We were all good friends, so naturally we should help out at a time like this. Amelia didn't say a word and accompanied Bob running up and down. Of course, Olivia was deliberately getting her out of the way.

After they left, Olivia signaled for me to go in.

I came to the side of the operating table, and Olivia indicated that the other doctors should leave.

I saw Chloe lying there expressionless. I quickly went over, held her hand, and gently asked, "Are you okay?"

Olivia had mentioned that earlier she'd been cursing Grace out in the emergency room, and then Bob and Amelia had come in to visit her. It looked like she'd just been lying there the whole time without any reaction.

But when she saw it was me, she suddenly burst into tears, "Nolan, that bitch deliberately plotted to kill our child!"

The doctors and nurses who hadn't left yet all turned around to look at me.

When Bob came in, the doctors and nurses should have known he was Chloe's husband. Now hearing Chloe say that the miscarried baby was hers and mine, they were naturally full of doubt and confusion.

Olivia signaled them to leave, and she herself stood guard at the door, ready to warn me if Bob came up.

I took out a tissue from my pocket, wiped Chloe's tears, then kissed her and whispered in her ear, "Don't talk nonsense. Today was purely an accident. No matter how bad Grace is, she wouldn't want to harm our child."

"What do you know? She's competing for your attention. She must be thinking that if I had the baby, I might be able to use it to pressure you in the future, or even marry you. That way, she wouldn't have a chance."

"Don't say that. You two have been good friends for years, and we were only able to be together because she made it happen."

"That's two different things. When she brought us together, she didn't have feelings for you yet. Now she's divorced from Dylan, and all her attention is on you. You don't understand older women, when they're defending their man, they can be way crazier than younger girls. To get you, a woman like her would do anything!"

"Baby, can you listen to me?" I kissed her again with deep affection, "The child is already gone, and the person responsible has been caught. Let's not complicate things now. Just focus on getting better, and once your body recovers, we can have another child!"

Chloe gripped my hand tightly and said angrily, "I didn't realize she could be so cruel. Fine, after my body recovers, I'm going to have three or four children for you. Let's see if she dares to harm me then!"

Chloe was just speaking out of anger, but her emotions were all wrong. When Bob came up, he'd definitely notice something.

I wiped her tears while trying to calm her down, and specifically told her to think more about me and not to hold a grudge against Grace. Otherwise, not only would Bob easily notice something was off, but it wouldn't be good for her recovery either.

Having just lost her child, Chloe was very fragile both physically and mentally at this moment, but she seemed very willing to listen to me.

After I finished speaking, she nodded repeatedly, trying hard to calm herself down.

I reminded Chloe again that when Bob came, she absolutely must not show any dissatisfaction with Grace, or it would arouse his suspicion.

Chloe nodded, "I understand, I know. When they came in just now, I kept restraining myself. I only couldn't hold it in when I saw you. I'm sorry."

As she spoke, she was about to cry again.

"Don't cry, baby. Just focus on recovering, and everything will be fine."

After a moment, Olivia pushed the door open and immediately gave me a look, "Quick, get her onto the gurney. Bob and the others are coming."

I immediately lifted Chloe onto the gurney, as if Olivia had called me in to help.

Just as we reached the door, Bob and Amelia came striding over. Behind them were a doctor and nurse carrying emergency kits. They immediately helped me push the gurney toward the ambulance waiting at the door, heading straight for Evergreen Hospital.
