Don't Fucking Do This!
Falcon
I stood at the window, looking out at my mates all playing with Godric. They took turns letting him tackle them while they howled in feigned pain. Every time I saw them with our son, I couldn’t help but smile. I glanced over my shoulder at Timothy, sighing when his face was even paler than it had been an hour ago. The slow beeps of the monitor had made us worry more and more every day.
He was the last one still asleep and I knew that I should be happier that the others had already woken up with their bears but the sense of loss that hung in the air was suffocating. Tasha had connected him to another IV that was supposed to provide him with nutrients but it didn’t seem to be helping. I sighed and let my head drop as a tear rolled down my face. I would give anything for him to open his eyes and be okay.
Hell, I would even relive being shot if it meant that we got to keep him. Tasha’s forced laughter made me raise my head a little to watch her turn away from our son to hide the sadness on her face. For ten days, we had tried to get her to leave the room and for ten days she had told us to fuck off while she cuddled into his body, begging him to survive.
‘How is he?,’ she linked me for the millionth time in half an hour.
‘The same,’ I said robotically, just as I had every other time.
‘We’re going to go on a hike,’ she told me hesitantly as she glanced up at the window.
I nodded, knowing she could see me. ‘I’ll call you if anything happens. I promise.’
She blew me a kiss before smiling at Godric. Raul led them into the woods and I saw Tara and Mona slip into the shadows to protect them. They hated being watched but there was no way I was letting any of them go into the forest without me, not with their new transitions. I had seen newly shifted bears kill their own family when hunger hit and I was not about to take that risk.
I turned away from the window to go sit on the bed beside Timothy. I took his hand and let my eyes roam over his face. I had gotten used to the idea of our family, as weird as it sounded, and I knew we would never be complete without him there with us. I squeezed his hand.
“You know, if you were going for the record of the longest transition, you won that title 3 days ago,” I said. “You can wake up now and we’ll give you your prize. Not to spoil the surprise or anything but you have 1 woman, 5 men and a little cub waiting for you.” I paused and closed my eyes as I ran my finger over the thready pulse in his wrists. “I’m waiting for you, too.”
The monitor started going off and my eyes snapped open. His pulse started jackhammering under my finger and before I could do anything, he started seizing. His body thrashed and I quickly rolled him on his side as foam bubbled up out of his mouth.
‘HOME! NOW!,’ I yelled through the link, panicked.
Carson howled in our head when his heart stopped two breaths before he went still. I pushed him onto his back and bit into my wrist as I opened his mouth. I let my blood drip down his throat, rubbing his throat every few seconds, while doing CPR one-handed.
“Come on. Please, don’t do this,” I begged.
I paused my chest compressions to check for a pulse before starting over again as my panic continued to rise.
“TIMOTHY! DON’T FUCKING DO THIS!,” I yelled.
The door banged open and they rushed in. Tasha sprinted to my side and put her fingers on his throat.
“There’s no pulse,” I cried. “I tried.”
She shoved me out of the way before tearing into her wrist to give him her blood. She straddled him to get a better angle to make him forcibly swallow.
“I tried that. There’s no-”
She glared at me and I shut my mouth. “Compressions.”
I started the compression while she continued to feed him her blood. I barely registered when Raul and Lee sat on the bed for Jamie to start a makeshift transfusion of blood for Tasha. I started praying while we kept working on him. Carson pushed forward suddenly, watching with me. Before I could stop him, he yanked her off Timothy and she started clawing my face, screaming at me to let her go. He pressed her face into my chest before looking at Timothy closely. Fur was slowly erupting all over his arms before traveling under his shirt. I glanced at the other guys who were staring at him, too.
“Are you seeing this, too, or am I just imagining it?,” Sebastian asked.
I turned Tasha around and pointed. “Look.”
Timothy’s back arched and his bones started cracking. We all watched in awe as he crept slowly through his shift. When I was sure Tasha wouldn’t interfere, I let her go. She started unhooking him from the monitors and IV before crawling into bed next to him as Maddy. She whimpered and nosed him until he finally laid still. I walked over to put my hand over his heart and let out the breath I was holding. His heart beat strong and steady and his chest rose and fell with easy breaths. I ran my hand over Maddy’s head.
“You did it, baby. You saved him.”
She eyed me curiously but didn’t respond. I glanced at the others who were watching me just as curiously as she was. I cleared my throat.
“What did I do?,” I asked.
Nobody answered me. They just all curled up on the bed behind her. I sighed.
“You’re not going to tell me, are you?”
Jamie grinned at me. “Nope. So, you should just sit down and be prepared for whatever happens next. Oh, and by the way, your sister has Osprey.”
My shoulders slumped as I sank to the floor beside the bed. I leaned back against the bedside table as my adrenaline rush started to ebb. I guess I had no choice but to wait for whatever happened next. I just hoped it wasn’t bad. I couldn’t lose my family. None of them.

I jerked awake when I heard a soft groan above me.
“Timothy?,” Tasha murmured softly.
“Tasha?”
My heart skipped a beat when his hoarse voice replied to her.
“Hey, handsome, how are you feeling?”
“Like I could eat a horse and drink the ocean.”
She laughed a little. “The ocean would just make you thirstier. Will you settle for some normal water?”
I jumped to my feet and rushed out of the room, telling them I’d get him some as I left. I ran down the stairs and got a pot of water along with a cup. I grabbed some meat out of the freezer before carefully hurrying back upstairs. Everyone stopped talking when I walked back in and my chest tightened. I held up the food and water.
“If it’s not enough, I can get more….”
Tasha smiled at me and beckoned me closer. “It’ll be fine. He should start off slow. He’s been asleep for 16 days. He’s lucky I’m not putting him on a liquid diet.”
I hesitantly crossed the room to put the pot and frozen steaks on the bedside table. I dipped the cup into the pot before handing it to him. Timothy’s fingers brushed over my hand as he took the cup from my hand and I cursed silently. I opened my mouth to speak but Tasha cut me off.
“So, we were just catching Tim up on what happened and how you saved his life.”
I gawked at her. “You saved him, Nash.”
She smiled at me. “No, you saved him. He had a heartbeat when I got here.” She took his hand. “Isn’t it true that a mate’s blood performs miracles?”
“Yes, but-”
“You were my miracle, Falcon, and he is yours.” She met my eyes. “He helped me save you and you helped me save him. Funny how things play out, isn’t it.”
I sat on the edge of the bed next to him when my knees threatened to give out while my brain tried to process what she was saying. Timothy leaned forward, talking to me but I was too busy trying to understand everything to take in what he said. My thoughts immediately ceased when he pressed his lips against mine. My eyes widened and I couldn’t move.
His timid kiss was over in the span of seconds but the emotions flying rapidly through me made me cup the back of his neck and pull him back into me for another one. I licked his lips and he opened his mouth for me to thrust my tongue inside. I closed my eyes as every worry, doubt and pain-filled second was poured into our kiss. I let him go when I could feel him getting breathless. I slowly opened my eyes.
“I love you. I didn’t think I could, not like this but these last few weeks have been the worst ones I have ever had. I don’t want to lose any of you.” I took a deep breath and looked around. “I’m in love with all of you.”
