Chapter 30 Chapter Thirty
Chapter 30 Chapter Thirty
Something about the way he says it sends a rush of excitement through me. I know I shouldn't care that he wants me, but I can't help but enjoy the attention. I mean seriously, he is so damn gorgeous and very charming. I would be crazy not to want him. I’d be even crazier not to enjoy his flirting.
"I guess we will." I say, giving him a mischievous smile.
The two of us talk for a very long time, laughing, getting to know each other. The more I get to know him, the harder it is to keep myself from falling. I’m falling for Mateo, this stranger. This stranger that would probably run away and never look back if he knew everything I have gone through. I wish it was easier to walk away from him, but for some reason I just feel drawn to Mateo.
I check the time, and it's already eleven forty-five. Shit. It's getting late. Brad is probably getting worried. "It's getting pretty late. I guess it's probably time for me to head home." I say to Mateo, giving him an apologetic smile.
He nods his head smiling. "It's okay, I understand. Would you like a ride home?"
I bite my bottom lip considering it for a second. I shouldn't do it though. That could put me and Brad in a weird position. "It's okay. I am just going to text Brad. It won't take him long to get here." I say, smiling.
Mateo smiles. "Okay, can I ask you a favor though?"
I look at him slightly confused. "What kind of favor?" I ask, hesitantly.
Mateo leans in close. "Promise me you won't take so long to come back and see me this time." He says. Mateo places a kiss on my cheek and I blush.
"I promise." I tell him, smiling like a teenage girl that just got asked to the prom by her crush.
Mateo winks and sits back in his seat, taking another sip of his drink. I grab my phone and text Brad.
Me: Hey babe. Can you come get me?
His response is fast.
Brad: On my way.
I smile and set my phone down. "Brad will be here soon. He's on his way."
Mateo gives me a sweet smile. "I will walk you out and wait with you."
"You don't have to do that." I tell him, smiling.
He stands up and offers me his hand. "I don't mind at all." He insists.
I sigh and place my hand in his. “Thank you.” I say, as he leads me through the crowd of people.
When we step outside the music is muffled and it seems extremely quiet out here. Even though there are several cars and people going all different directions. Mateo keeps holding my hand, looking into my eyes as he says. “Thank you for spending your time with me tonight. It was a pleasure getting to know you better Makenzie.”
I feel my heart flutter a little. He is so sweet. “I enjoyed getting to know you better as well.”
Mateo gives me a big smile. “I would kiss you right now, if I knew you wouldn’t slap me.” He chuckles.
I laugh, shaking my head. “Well, maybe next time you can risk it and see what happens.”
Mateo smirks. “Maybe I will.”
I feel a sudden rush of nervous excitement. I wonder if he will actually kiss me next time I see him. I bet he is a good kisser; I am honestly pretty excited to find out. “Good.” I whisper, looking away from him.
Brad pulls up in front of us a couple seconds later and I smile at Mateo. “Well, I guess this is goodnight.”
“Goodnight Makenzie. I hope you have a great night.” Mateo says, as he lets go of my hand.
“Thank you. Have a good night.” I say, as I lean in to give him a hug. “Thank you for waiting with me.”
“You’re welcome.” He whispers, giving me a kiss on the cheek.
I smile and turn to walk towards the car. I wave as I open the door. “Don’t forget what you promised.” Mateo says, winking at me.
I feel my cheeks heat up a little and I smile. “I won’t forget.”
With that I get in the car and close the door, smiling at Mateo as we pull away. “So, what did you promise Mateo?” Brad asks, smiling at me.
I laugh, shaking my head. “Nothing important.”
Brad laughs. “Tell me then.”
I sigh, rolling my eyes. “Mateo asked me to come back sooner than I did last time.” I say, laughing a little. “I promised him I would.”
“Soo? Tonight, went well then?” Brad asks, sounding amused.
I huff. “Yeah, I guess it did.” I pause for a second, smiling when I think about everything me and Mateo talked about. I smack his arm. “You shouldn’t have left me though.” I say, getting a little irritated.
Brad laughs. “I’m sorry baby. I just wanted you to spend some time with Mateo and I knew you wouldn’t do it on your own.”
“What if he was a serial killer? You just left me there. I could have been murdered or something.” I say, trying to make him feel a little guilty.
“Of all the people in the world, Mateo is like the one person I’ve met that doesn’t give me a weird feeling. He seems like a really nice guy.” Brad says, glancing over at me.
I sigh. “He is a nice guy. I hate you are right though.”
Brad laughs. “I love being right.”
I roll my eyes and stare at the window as Brad drives back to our apartment. It’s been a long night. A very good, long night.
\-Mateo’s POV-
I watch as Makenzie drives off with Brad. I wish I could be the one she is going home with, instead of him. Maybe soon enough that fantasy will become a reality. I have a feeling that won’t happen though. At least not with Brad around.
