Chapter 29 Chapter Twenty-Nine

Chapter 29 Chapter Twenty-Nine
Mateo is here and he is watching me? I look around quickly, trying to see if I can see him. I can’t see him through the crowd of people though. How does he know Mateo is watching me?

“What do you mean he is watching me?” I ask, trying to sound like I care way less than I actually do.

Brad laughs and leans in close to my ear. “I mean, he is sitting at a table looking sexy as fuck, sipping a drink and he hasn’t taken his eyes off of you.”

I smirk. “Maybe he is watching you. You do look pretty damn sexy when you are shaking your ass the way you were a second ago.”

Brad’s face turns bright red, almost glowing in the lights from the club and he shakes his head. “I think you have had way too much to drink baby. There is no way in hell he is staring at me. In fact, I am about to prove it, he is coming our way now.”

I feel my heart skip a beat. I really hope he is joking. I don’t know what to say to Mateo, we don’t even really know each other, and I am here with Brad. A few very long seconds later Mateo is standing next to us and Brad is right he does look sexy as fuck.

“Good evening, Makenzie. It’s nice to see you again.” He pretty much shouts over the music, then he turns to Brad. “Good to see you again Brad. Are you two having a good night?”

Brad smiles. “Yes we are. I am thirsty though, so I am going to get a drink. Would you two like anything?” He asks and I give him a don’t you dare leave me look. Even though it is no use at all.

Mateo smiles. “No, thank you for asking though.”

Brad points to me and I shake my head no, forcing a smile. Brad gives me a very fake innocent smile and says. “I’ll be right back.”

Mateo chuckles. “I’m glad you are here, I have been thinking about you lately.”

I feel my cheeks heat up. “You have?” I ask, not sure what else to say that won’t make me sound like some kind of weirdo.

He nods his head and smiles. “Yes, I have. You are constantly on my mind. No matter what I do, you are just always there in the front of my mind.”
“Well, I am sorry I have been such a distraction for you.” I tell him, giggling nervously.

Mateo smirks. “Don’t be sorry. You are the best distraction I have ever had. I just wish you would come around more often, or I don’t know give me your number or something. You know so I will have a way to talk to you when you are clouding my thoughts.”

I start laughing. “When you say it like that, you make it sound like I should feel a little guilty or something.”

Mateo winks, smirking. “You should feel very guilty. I have never had anyone distract me the way you do. It is very hard to focus on work when I am constantly wondering where you are and who you are with.”

“Those are two very easy questions to answer. I am always at home with Brad.”

Mateo chuckles. “Well, Brad is a very lucky guy. I wish I could have someone as beautiful as you to call mine.”

I shake my head laughing. “That is both sweet and very cheesy all at the same time.”

Mateo shrugs. “I try.”

I feel my phone buzzing in my pocket, and I pull it out to check it. It’s a text from Brad.

Brad: Have fun babygirl. Call me when you are ready to be picked up, unless Mateo is going to bring you home. (winky face emoji)

I look around the crowded club, he can’t be serious, can he? I know he did not just leave me here with Mateo. I mean at least Mateo is here, but still.

Me: Please tell me, you did not just leave me here.

I wait a minute, but there is no response. He is probably driving, shit. I am going to kick his ass when I get back home. This was probably his plan all along. Get me here with Mateo and then leave, so I can have some time alone or whatever with him.

Mateo gives me a concerned look and asks. “Is everything okay Makenzie?”

I nod my head, smiling up at him. “Umm, yeah. Everything is okay. Brad, uh he went home. He wasn’t feeling good. He told me, he would come pick me up later.”

Mateo smiles. “I am sorry he isn’t feeling good, but I am not going to lie I am pretty excited I get to have some time with you. Would you like to go sit and talk?”

He extends his hand to me, and I hesitate for a second before putting my hand in his. “Sure.” I mumble, not even sure if he could hear me over the loud music and crowd of people.

Mateo leads us over to the same section of tables we sat in last time I was here with him. “How have you been lately?” I ask, trying to make small talk.

Mateo smiles. “I’ve been okay. I am much better now.”

“Oh yeah? Why is that?” I ask, even though I already know what he is going to say.

He leans over close to me and says. “Because, now I get another chance to try and convince you to either go on a date with me or at least give me your number.”

I laugh shaking my head. “You are very persistent.”

Mateo laughs. “I’m also very stubborn. I like getting what I want.”

I give him a mischievous smile. “Well, if what you want is me, then you might learn what it’s like to not get what you want.”

Mateo smirks, taking a sip of his drink. “We will see about that baby.”
