Chapter 61
Selena wiped the beads of sweat on her forehead, looking so completely worn out. She kept flipping the pages of the grimoire in the hope of alas finding what they were looking for.
"What if...what if it's not there yet?" One of the witches, Greya asked as she paced to and fro in the room behind Selena. "What if it's not written there yet? What if no one...the predecessors of the book hasn't seen the need to open a portal? Isn't it that the book was once a blank page?"
Selena sighed beginning to hate the fact that she was tasked to do the job.
The door opened and Lisa entered. "I doubt no one felt the need to open a portal, Greya. For now, we can't afford to be negative." Lisa said sternly.
Greya rolled her eyes away.
Lisa walked toward Selena. "So nothing yet? It's been five days you've been flipping and nothing to show for it."
"Why not try it and see how hard it is to go through a book as big as this? It's exhausting and I need to rest." Selena retorted.
Lisa shook her head. "No resting here, Selena. This is too important for us to be complacent. We need to give our all."
"We as in me." Selena corrected. "Cause as it seems, I'm the only one who isn't scared of flipping through these pages."
"Your hard work will be rewarded, Selena. The King will definitely know about it." Lisa assured.
Selena sighed and continued flipping the book.
"For now, Luc is nowhere to be found but he'll definitely return. Before he does, we have to be ready and banish him." Lisa stated further.
"Where did he even go to? He couldn't have just left without a reason. He's got no purpose." Greya laid out the facts.
Lisa looked at her. "He's got friends. I'm sure those friends aren't happy to see what he's become and there's also his mate and I'm sure she's not happy that he doesn't remember her."
Greya nodded. "And about that mate? Isn't she odd? Like...someone powerful? I mean, her characteristics send a red flag to us."
Lisa scoffed. "What red flag? I sensed her and there was no aura. There's nothing special about her, except...well, her beauty. If she was so special, it wouldn't be so easy to use her the way I did. She poses no danger to us."
Selena gasped. "Oh, damn!"
They both urgently looked at her. "What's wrong?" Lisa asked and their gazes dropped to the book.
"Oh my world, Selena. You found it." Greya voiced out.
Selena nodded while Lisa frowned as her eyes roamed through it. "But there are no ingredients. No properties except one."
Selena nodded. "A portal is a magical pathway leading to different spaces in time or dimensions and location which can only be created by the most powerful sorcerers in the whole world and the ingredients can only be found in their hearth. It's said here that six objects are needed for the rite." Selena read aloud. "One was only given to us and that's the pentagram relic which is drawn for us."
Lisa shook her head with a scowl at the diagram. "And what the hell is that?"
Selena shrugged. "It says the first object is the key and the other drawing below (a diagram of a pentacle) will be needed where the first object will be placed in the middle. It unlocks the magic."
"There's a footnote," Greya informed. "Find one object and you'll know the next."
Lisa sighed. "Of course, it won't be easy. We're gonna have to find the first before the book will show us the next, the funny thing is, it's only when we placed it in the pentacle that we'll know the next ingredient and that's until we get to the last. How are we gonna pull it off especially when we don't even know where the ingredients are? if it's a hundred miles far from us or worse thousands. We're gonna keep going back and forth to place it in the pentacle, know the next ingredient and be on a journey once again." She babbled.
Greya nodded. "You definitely said what's on my mind, Lisa. Unfortunately, we have no choice here and that is your line."
Lisa gruffed loudly in frustration and ran her hands through her hair. "This is gonna be damn hard. The book isn't even gonna make things easy for us, like give us an inkling of where we can find the relic."
Selena sighed and leaned against the chair she was on. "Most powerful sorcerers. I've heard about certain powerful creatures. They've got the ability to use everything around them. To bend nature to their will. The air, earth, the trees, and even the elements. Everything natural and their world as I heard is magical."
"Then it could be them." Greya asserted. "So who are they?"
Selena shook her head. "That's the thing, Greya. I have no idea who they are. They're just stories to me. Never actually believed." Then she narrowed her eyes. "Although, the pentagram..." She became absorbed in thoughts and then her gaze met the book. "When I manipulated the book, it swiftly showed a pentagram symbol. I remember. Dim light and then it disappeared."
Lisa just sighed.
"Apparently all things have history. This book as powerful as it is, it has to, we just don't know its origin." Greya stated.
Lisa nodded. "I know it was given to my family though. The book and some kinda orb that I have never seen."
Another knock was heard on the door causing them to look.
"Is there anyone else coming today?" Greya asked.
Lisa shook her head. "Not sure." She walked toward the door and opened it. Her mouth fell open at the sight. She was in shock.
"Miss me?"
She chuckled and immediately engulfed him in a hug. "Very much. I didn't know you were coming."
He shrugged. "I was needed so I'm here. I wanted to surprise you too."
"How long?" She asked, pulling away from the hug.
"Past four days."
She rose a brow. "Really?"
He nodded. "I had things to answer to the king."
She smiled, while he walked further in. "So what's going on? What are you girls up to now?" He asked, his gaze meeting the opened page of the book.
"Something important. A spell to create a portal." Lisa answered him.
He furrowed his brow at the diagram. "Why is that so familiar?"
