Chapter 52
Katherine stared at the microscope's eyepiece at the sample of blood mounted on a glass slide. She's been doing that for a while to really understand the toxin that was used to paralyze Xander and Richard but she couldn't recognize the components.
She sighed and looked away in bewilderment. "I don't understand why I can't understand the components used for the toxin." She said looking at the three of them.
Xander was pacing around impatiently since he wasn't liking the fact that Bethany was taken, and the question is why.
He was also trying hard to remember what he saw. He knew his eyes grabbed something.
Richard was sitting on a chair thinking of how to prepare himself to look for Luc. He was also disturbed about the spy Katherine said they have.
It made sense because it could explain how they knew Luc and Amelia were in Frost town and their journey to Weredom.
But then who? He trusts everyone around them.
Amelia was standing in front of the counter watching Katherine do her job. She's a chemistry student so she knows things associated with chemistry but she also doesn't understand the components when she checked the microscope.
Then a thought came to her. "What if...what if it's extraordinary?" She asked causing Katherine to look at her.
"Extraordinary?" Katherine asked. "My mind didn't go there although we've got a lot of extraordinary ingredients and I know them. This one here is just different. I have never come across them."
She walked away toward a drawer. She opened it and brought out a big book. It was a grimoire owned by her grams or rather stolen. It was something powerful.
She dropped it on the table and looked at Amelia. "This book has everything. Thankfully, my grams no longer carry it everywhere she goes."
"What's it?" Amelia inquired.
"A grimoire." Richard stood up and walked toward them. "Still exist, uh?" He said, placing his hand gently on it but the shock made him pull away.
"My grams manipulated it and were able to use it as an aid for Lisa, then one day, the book refused to open for her again. No matter what she did." Katherine explained.
Richard nodded. "That's good. She stole it from the Langs after all. It's Macy's hereditary."
Katherine sighed. "True cause Lisa was never able to open it. It completely rejected her."
Amelia nodded. "Okay, so, what you guys are saying is not many people can touch it or is it just witches?"
"Something like that. Macy and Lisa were supposed to be the only ones that can touch and open it, but Lisa turned evil and it was stolen from Macy. After my grams manipulated it, then it rejected her, I discovered I could also open it then I concluded it now only opens for witches with a clear mind." Katherine elaborated.
"Let me guess, your grams don't know your theory," Richard stated.
Katherine nodded. "Or she'll use me."
They all nodded in understanding.
"So what next?" Amelia asked. "We need to know the components ASAP so we can find Bethany."
Katherine nodded and removed her hands from the book. She opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
Amelia noticed it and understood. "Ingredients for a toxin that can paralyze any supernatural for five days." She hinted, looking at Katherine.
Katherine nodded, but as she was about to utter it, the book shone bright Light and widely opened. Katherine's eyes were widened in shock as the book flipped on its own, then it turned itself toward Amelia and stopped.
Amelia blinked, staring at the open page of the book. "Okay, what just happened?"
Katherine walked toward Amelia's side and shook her head. "It's obvious. The book accepted you. You can control it, I just don't know why."
Xander walked toward them deciding to chime in. "Another mystery we will have to unfold. Good thing we have the bestiary with us."
Amelia looked at him in confusion. "Wh..."
"You guys..." Katherine called them, her eyes staring at the book. "Truly the ingredients are not from Weredom or anywhere around the kingdom. It can only be found in a place called...Brams."
"Brams? Never heard of that." Richard spoke.
"Well, you should know there are many places out there that are not Weredom and Vampdom." Katherine pointed out.
Richard just nodded.
"So this, Brams, that could possibly be where Bethany is." Xander insinuated.
Katherine nodded. "But obviously, there is more than one ancestry there. We have to know who really took Bethany or else we'll be pointing arrows without knowing who our target is."
Amelia shrugged. "Then let's ask..." She looked at the book. "What creature in Brams use (she mentioned the list of ingredients) as a toxin?"
The book flipped and stopped.
"Xondras?"

Bethany was shown around the whole place even though there was nothing much to see. She pitied them. And they were nice too.
She sat on a long chair with a long table in the middle and was given a berry by one of them who has a smile on her face. It was scary but she knew it was harmless. It was horrible.
"What kind of people are so heartless that they'll curse children, men, and women? Seriously, what really happened?" Bethany asked Yun who sat beside her and kept following her like some bodyguard.
"They're truly heartless. Very powerful people and we stood no chance against them." Yun answered her.
"Who are they?" She questioned.
Yun shook his head. "It doesn't matter. They've been wiped out."
Bethany's eyes widened. "Seriously?"
Yun nodded. "Not too long after the curse, a plague wiped them out one by one. We like to think it was karma, although we still remained this way. Hiding from the real world because of the shame it brought to us."
Bethany gave him a pitiful look. "At least you got your vengeance, though isn't there a way to lift the curse."
Yun looked at her. "Lift. It's permanent. We've searched. Nothing can undo the Lights magic."
Bethany looked away, tired of staring at the face. She wanted to leave but then they aren't bad people. They need serious help but what can she do?
"How long will I be here? When will you take me out?" She asked him.
"Very soon so don't worry. There's something we're working on and I need to oversee it."
Bethany looked at him. "How long?"
"Ten days."
Bethany's eyes opened wide. "Ten? That's too much."
"As I said, don't worry. You will have everything you want here. We'll do our best to make you comfortable. After it's done, I'll personally escort you to the border of Weredom."
Bethany sighed and nodded without choice. "Okay."
