Chapter 48
The dappled sun shone through the trees, creating mysterious shadows as they strode toward the path of Weredom. Their senses were alerted in case of any trouble whatsoever. Something they knew that had to be ready for. Something they knew in their heart was inevitable.
For a while, they walked silently, thinking about their lives. Especially Bethany who felt alone since she was the one female among them. She still couldn't help but think about how her life got mixed up in everything. Everything she has abandoned just to be on this journey. It somehow felt like the only right thing about her life.
She wondered how her family is. How Spencer is, feeling pity toward her since she was left alone. Not just in the dark but in school.
She also wondered what will become of her after they succeeded in finding Amelia and Finn. She wondered if she was welcomed. If she wasn't a taboo, she wondered where she belonged. Back to the ordinary world, or in the world of the supernatural.
She tilted her head back and forth, searching for anything other than trees since she was getting exhausted. They've been walking for more than an hour now. "How far is it, really?" She inquired with a frown on her face.
Xander who was walking by her left looked at her. "Don't worry. We'll arrive soon."
Bethany just nodded.
Xander looked at Richard. "So, what are the odds you won't see your betrayal of a brother."
Richard gave him a serious expression. "If I do, I could kill him."
Xander chuckled and shook his head, looking away from him. "I doubt that."
Bethany looked at Richard with curiosity. "You have a brother?"
Richard nodded, glancing at her. "Twin. Not identical though, and I'm thankful for that."
"So, this brother is on the...evil side?" Bethany inquired.
Richard nodded. "He took the side of Logan."
Bethany chuckled, finding it funny. "Seriously? I noticed the siblings here seem to be rivals. Choosing the ones they wish to side with. Just like Macy and Lisa. Now you and your brother."
Richard shrugged. "Jones chose what he felt was right for him. He didn't want to leave and being Logan's beta was something he dutifully achieved. He always like the side of the winners, going against my family since we were all in the side of Luc. He chose the wrong path. It led to my...parents' death, though at that time I was with Luc."
Xander nodded in agreement. "Every generation, as we grow, we get to pick a side. Luc was king for a long time, hell we weren't even born. As we grow, we get stories, depending on which side your family chooses, though vampires normally, we are automatically on the side of Luc, but witches and werewolves, nope."
"So you mean, there's no vampire that's gonna betray Finn or no vampire working for the werewolves." Bethany inquired.
Xander shook his head. "Haven't heard of that. Although, there are a lot of us trapped in their cell."
Bethany sighed. "Wow. This is all..."
"Shh." Richard shushed and halted, extending his left hand to stop them from walking further.
They heard a rustling behind them making them turn, look around, and stay alert.
"Just like I thought, they know we're here," Richard announced in a calm voice.
Bethany gulped, wondering about the next thing she was about to see. A powerful shudder rocks her body, fear and adrenaline flooding her body.
Xander's fangs came out and he turned toward the side as another rustling sound was heard. They used their eyes to search but nothing was obvious due to the trees and bushes.
They could only sense them.
"They're more than ten," Richard announced, his eyes turning gold, pushing out his claws as his eyes scanned around.
Xander gave Bethany a side glance. "Think angry thoughts." He urged.
Bethany closed her eyes shut, conjuring every anger contained deep within her, a loud sound made her eyes open and what she met was a huge brown wolf charging at her and instinctively, she swiped her taloned hand at the side of the wolf, pushing it to the side til it fell on the ground. All she could now see was pure red.
All the werewolves stealthily waiting for them began coming out one by one in full attack.
Richard growled at the werewolf charging at him and gave it a punch in the face, sending it flying and immediately going to face another.
All Xander could use was his fighting skills and strengths. The werewolf that flew at him with his mouth wide open was immediately caught by the mouth. Xander used all his strength before the werewolf could get the chance to use his claw to fight back and he widened the mouth of the werewolf, breaking his jaw and throwing him out of his sight.
Then he brought his silver dagger out getting completely ready for the fight.
The fight went on, some wolves already dead and some injured by Bethany since one swipe of her talons seem to paralyze them.
Xander was finally brought to the ground with a werewolf on top of him, trying to free himself from its hold, his dagger was out of his hand. He held tight to the face of the wolf and it snarled and growled, gnashing its teeth not far from Xander's face.
And before he could push the werewolf off him, Bethany scratched the face of the werewolf earning a loud growl from it as it was sent off of Xander and landed on its back.
Xander stared at Bethany for a while before getting up and facing her. "Thanks."
Bethany's face was blank, then she closed her eyes. "Happy thoughts."
Richard watched as the five injured werewolves slowly began changing into their human self. They were mostly the ones Bethany faced. They were bleeding profusely, groaning in pain.
One of them was choking since he was heavily wounded in his stomach. His breathing was heavy, blood spilling from his mouth.
Richard looked at Bethany and Xander. "Let's end their pathetic lives and continue our journey."
"Don't you think we should ask questions first? Like, interrogate them?" Bethany asked.
Xander chuckled and shook his head. "They won't answer. They will only end up getting you annoyed." He said walking toward his dagger and picking it up. "Let's end them, pile their bodies, and burn them."
Richard nodded and they did exactly that.
