Chapter 12 Meeting people from the past
“Why do you think she's after me”?
Hazel asked but Dona shook her head.
“I'm not sure. But one thing is certain”.
She said and looked at Hazel.
“She doesn't just want to kill you, she wants to make you suffer. She's out to ruin you completely.
Which explains why she suddenly showed up when you returned to Nightshade”.
She said and Hazel stayed silent, listening and thinking too.
“Your silence is only going to make her stronger Hazel. You can't let her win”.
She said and Hazel nodded.
“You're right, I should probably go and see Kael now”.
She said and Dona smiled and nodded before Hazel rushed out.
It was already bright outside when Hazel and Dona were done talking so Hazel was very sure that Kael would already be up.
She wanted to go to his room but immediately redirected her steps back to his study.
Luckily, when she got there, he was there already working.
“You're here”.
He said and she nodded before walking towards the couch to sit.
Kael also stood up from his desk and went ahead to sit opposite her.
“Are you okay”?
He asked and she nodded.
“Dona told me she has spoken to you already”.
She said and he nodded.
“We did have a conversation, but she said she couldn't tell you yet”.
He explained and she nodded.
“I already saw her. Using all three clues, I was able to see a bit more until your parents death”.
She said and went silent for a while.
“Rave, this… so called twin sister of mine seems to want you”.
She said, surprising Kael.
“Me”?
He asked and she nodded.
“I think she's interested in everything I'm interested in”.
She said but suddenly, she saw Kael smiling.
“Does that sound funny”?
She asked but he immediately shook his head.
“Of course not, it's just… you said you're interested in me”.
He said and Hazel's lips parted a bit in shock.
“I mean… I was interested in you in the past, before”.
She explained, trying to clear the misunderstanding and Kael immediately lost his smile as he nodded looking like a child who's favorite toy was taken away from.
“I know already, you didn't have to spell it out like that”.
He said and she shook her head.
“I also saw her in the garden this morning”.
She said and he raised a brow.
“Your twin”?
He asked but she closed her eyes and sighed.
“She's Rave, not my twin”.
She said and he nodded, raising his hand in surrender.
“Dona said we weren't born from the same mother, we were just gotten from the same source. Which means I don't have to relate myself with her at all”.
She said but Kael suddenly looked lost in thought, causing Hazel to clap in front of him, trying to bring him back.
“Kael! Are you listening to me”?
She asked and he nodded before leaning forward and looking at her seriously.
“If you are both gotten from the same source, does it mean… she's also a tribreed”?
He asked and Hazel blinked repeatedly.
“I didn't think about that”.
She said.
They were still thinking when the door suddenly opened and Lucian rushed in.
“Dad”!
He yelled happily as he rushed to Kael and wrapped his tiny hands around his neck.
Kael was smiling so hard, even from a distance anyone could tell just how happy he was.
“You slept for a very long time”.
Kael said teasing the boy.
“I need to sleep well to grow well”.
He replied and Kael laughed as he nodded.
“Won't you even acknowledge your mom”?
Hazel finally spoke, causing Lucian to turn to her.
“Good morning Mom".
He said so quickly and turned back to Kael.
“Dad, are you busy today? I have so many things I want to do with you”.
He said and Hazel scoffed in disbelief.
“Waw, you just met him and you've already forgotten about your mom? That's what I get for having a son”.
She said and began walking out.
“Hazel wait”.
Kael called as he gently dropped Lucian on the couch before walking towards her.
When he was close enough, he held her hand and gently caressed it.
“I don't want you to blame yourself for what happened to my parents. I already made that mistake and I regret it everyday.
This time around, let's pour all of our strength and anger into finding the real culprit”.
He said and Hazel's eyes was suddenly filled up with warmth. That was exactly what she wanted to hear.
She didn't want to admit it, but the fear of him turning his back on her like he did before was still very much present.
She was scared he'd chase her away again when he found out about Rave and that his parents went to that building because of her.
Seeing him reassure her just made her feel a lot better.
She couldn't stop looking at him until a tiny voice came in and ruined the atmosphere.
“Mummy I'm hungry”!
Lucian yelled out and Hazel gave him a fake angry face.
“Well, since you only want to be with your dad now, he might as well fix you breakfast”.
She said and turned back to Kael, giving him a faint smile before walking out of the study.
Kael stood stiff in that position for a pretty long while, just reliving the look on her face.
He soon felt a tiny hand on his trousers pulling him almost aggressively.
“Dad, I'm hungry”.
Lucian said, pulling him out of his thoughts.
He looked at him and smiled.
“Let's get you something to eat”.
Kael and Lucian we're having breakfast when they saw Hazel and Dona all dressed and ready to go out.
“Going somewhere”?
Kael asked and Hazel nodded before moving closer to them.
“There's someone I'd like to pay a quick visit”.
She said, causing Kael to raise a brow wondering who it could possibly be.
“Who is this someone”?
He asked and Hazel smiled.
“My dad”.
