Chapter 110 : Finding Her Mate
Chapter 110 : Finding Her Mate
Hazel's eyes flicked.
This was the first time since Kalia was born that she had spoken to her this calmly.
She was always yelling and saying how much she hated her mother or how much she wanted to run away but today, it was different.
She didn't yell, she didn't complain, she just indirectly distanced herself completely.
Hazel turned towards the direction she had taken and rushed after her.
She noticed she was going outside and followed her till they got to the garden.
The garden had always been her favorite spot.
“I had another argument with Mom today, silly of me isn't it?”
She was touching something in the garden, something Hazel couldn't see.
“I'm sure she's going to ask why I haven't found my mate yet or transformed yet very soon.
Everyone just wants a female Lucian and I'm so sick of it.
I can not be their perfect son.”
She stopped talking for a while and sat down on the grass.
She then turned back and Hazel could finally see it. It was a little pink bunny. Hazel looked surprised. She had never seen any bunny in the house before so she wondered where it was coming from.
“I wish they could let me keep you.
You're so cute, I wonder where you come from.”
For the first time, Hazel actually looked at her daughter and thought…
'Where did it all go wrong? Why did I never see or feel the hurt and burden she has been carrying?'
It had been eighteen long years, eighteen years of bickering and never seeing eye to eye.
Eighteen years of unconsciously comparing her to Rave. Kalia, her own child.
She sighed heavily before turning away and leaving.
“I'll graduate and go to the university very soon, I won't come home for any reason.”
But then, she looked at the bunny and sighed.
“You're right, Dad has done nothing but love me.”
Her eyes turned sharply to the bunny.
“Should I sneak you in?”
As though the bunny heard what she said, it hopped right off before he could think of catching it.
She smiled as she watched it leave.
It always did that whenever she tried to take it into the house.
“I guess not tonight.”
She went back inside after she had calmed down a bit and when she got in, they were still in the living room, but Kalia just looked at them for a moment and walked upstairs.
The next day, Hazel went to her room to wake her up for school, but she was already gone before anyone even woke up.
“Where could she be?”
She went downstairs to the driver.
“Where is Kalia?”
The driver bowed.
“She left early on her bicycle Luna.
Hazel sighed and went back inside.
Meanwhile, Lucian woke up only to get startled when he noticed Ava was sitting and watching him sleep with a smile on her face.
He jolted up so fast, not expecting to even see her in his room.
She looked at him, shocked by his reaction.
“Ava, what are you doing here?”
She pouted her mouth, looking like she was upset.
“Why? Can't I be with the man I love?”
Lucian moved closer to her and held her hand.
He went silent for a bit, for some reason, he didn't feel the mate pull he usually felt when he touched her anymore.
She pulled her hand away from his, causing him to raise his head and look at her.
“Fine, I'll leave since you don't want me here.”
He shook his head and tried to move close to her but she moved away.
“That's not what I meant, I do want you by my side all the time.”
He sighed when he noticed she was still moving away.
“Which is why I intend to tell my parents that I want to get married to you as soon as possible.”
She looked at him with her eyes wide open.
“Do you mean that?”
He nodded and she smiled happily, rushing over and hugging him strongly.
He hugged her back but his face looked like it had questions.
For some reason, he couldn't feel anything. No pull, no affection, no… love.
She moved away and cleared her throat.
“I should leave now, I need to get pretty.”
He gave her a light smile as he watched her walk out.
He also went to freshen up before coming down.
“What!?”
His brows creased when he heard his mom scream at someone on the phone.
“What do you mean she is his mate?”
His eyes opened wide.
'damn it, did she… did she tell them?'
His heart was definitely beating faster than usual.
Hazel raised her head and saw him standing by the stairs.
“Ahh, Lucian, come come come.”
He bit his lips before moving closer.
“Turns out some good-for-nothing is the reason why Carina's birthday was ruined yesterday.”
Lucian used his left hand to squeeze his right hand as he listened to his mom speak.
“Apparently, someone saw Carina crying because she got rejected yesterday but he didn't hear them properly because of the noise from the party.”
He swallowed so hard.
“We still don't know who her mate was but we suspect it was Derek.”
Lucian raised a brow.
“Mr Voss's son?”
Hazel nodded.
“He was the only one seen leaving the garden after Carina was seen crying. Kalia was comforting her and apparently, even protecting her.
Which was why she said Carina had taken alcohol.”
Lucian felt his throat get even drier. He knew this was the perfect time to tell her the truth but for some reason, he could not bring himself to say anything.
“Did…”
He cleared his throat before speaking again.
“Did Carina tell you all of this?”
Hazel shook her head.
“No no, she hasn't been able to speak to anyone except Kalia since yesterday. Kalia left for school with her bike to cheer her up.”
Lucian wasn't too surprised to hear that Carina had not said anything. He knew how much she liked him.
'It's probably for the best, it'll pass in no time.'
