Chapter 10 Yin and yang
Kael wasn't sure of why she would say that, but he hugged her tight, trying to calm her down.
“It's okay, you need to calm down first”.
He said but it seemed to have only made her cry even more.
“They were there because of me”.
She said still crying her eyes out.
“Stop talking Hazel”.
He said and after a while, she passed out, completely exhausted.
Kael carried her gently and placed her on the bed to sleep properly.
It was already late anyways so he tucked her in, hoping she'd sleep well through the night before he walked out of the room.
As soon as he walked out, he saw Dona by the door, looking so scared with her head so bent it looked like she was trying to see her neck.
He sighed heavily before he spoke.
“Come with me”.
He said and she immediately followed me.
“Explain what you said earlier in much clearer words”.
He said as soon as the got to his study.
Dona's heart was beating very fast. He looked cold and for a witch as powerful as her, she could easily feel just how much power he had. So she knew one wrong word and he could kill her in seconds.
“Speak”!
He said as he was beginning to lose his patience.
She knelt down and began to beg.
“I'm sorry, I… my words came out wrong. I didn't mean to say she is the real murderer but… she is linked to their death and she'll be linked to more”.
She said still not looking at him.
She didn't hear him speak for a while so she raised her head to look at him but as soon as she did, he held her by the neck and raised her up, strangling her.
“I told you to speak in clearer words".
He said and she held his hand, trying to release herself even though she knew that was impossible.
“Hazel… Hazel has a twin”!
She said with every strength left in her and as soon as he heard that, his eyes opened wide as he released her, causing her to fall to the ground.
“What”?
He asked and Dona coughed before going back to her kneeling position.
“They are not born from the same womb, but they are born of the same source. Like yin and yang”.
She added and he looked at her with a brow raised.
“How do you know this”?
He asked and she looked at him briefly before looking back down.
“I'm a witch. The first time I took her in, I had to read her origin to be sure I wasn't bringing in a threat".
She said and he nodded before finally speaking.
“Sit".
He said, surprising her.
“I need to know everything that you know. Don't leave out a single detail”.
He said and as soon as Dona sat down, she began to speak about everything.
Some of the things she said was a big shock to Kael while some were not so surprising as he knew those facts already. Facts like her being a tribreed.
“Her twin will stop at nothing to take everything from her and she… is not someone you should underestimate”.
She added and he nodded, deep in thoughts before he looked at her.
“Why didn't you tell this to Hazel"?
He asked but she shook her head.
“I wanted to but every time I tried to, something bad would happen. I finally asked the moon and it was revealed that she needs to find out by herself”.
She explained and Kael sighed again.
“I… I believe she has finally seen her”.
She said, drawing Kael's attention.
“I'm not sure of what she saw in her vision, but I know for a fact that her twin is part of whoever killed your parents and in my visions, her twin wears her face”.
She said and Kael went completely silent.
If what Dona was saying was true, then it means they were back to the very beginning.
Whoever this twin was, might be someone Hazel has never even met or… someone not too far away.
“Do you know anything else”?
He asked but she shook her head.
“I haven't been able to see anything else. It's almost like I've been blocked out”.
She said and Kael nodded.
“You can leave now”.
He said and she immediately stood up, walking out of the study.
Hazel woke up pretty early as she couldn't stop dreaming about that girl who looks exactly like her.
Seeing that she couldn't sleep anymore, she decided to take a quiet walk around the garden to think properly.
When she got there, she sat on the swing, trying to recall everything her vision held but she suddenly heard a voice.
“Seems you can't sleep”.
She turned but she couldn't see anyone. Getting alerted, she stood up and began looking around more closely but she heard a slight laugh and she immediately recalled the laughter.
“It's you… you're the one who killed his parents”.
She said and suddenly, someone walked out from the shadows with a cloak.
She took of the hood and Hazel moved back a bit in shock, causing the lady to smile.
“Seeing as you already know who I am, there's no need to hide it now, is there”?
The lady said and Hazel shook her head.
“How is this possible? How… how do you have my face"?
She asked and the smile on the lady's face vanished.
“What makes you think it's your face? Why can't it be mine”?
She asked and Hazel looked at her, trying to read her a bit more carefully.
The lady seemed to have noticed this as she smiled, concealing her true emotions.
“I'm Rave… my friends call me Death”.
She said but Hazel didn't give any form of emotion away anymore she just remained still and kept looking at her.
“Oh well, this is not a nice way to welcome your twin now is it”?
She said and Hazel smiled slightly, surprising her.
“Is that funny”?
She asked
“Twin”?
Hazel asked as she turned to look at her with a rather serious face.
“Don't overestimate yourself, you're not worthy enough to call yourself my twin”.
She said and without waiting for Rave to speak, she walked away.
Rave turned to her and her lips lifted in a twitch.
“You're going to regret speaking to me like that… Hazel".
