My blood boiled, and an unexplainable anger began from my scalp down to my stomach.
I forced my eyes to stop blinking, before someone would see me and wonder why I'm staring at the two beautiful-looking humans delving into each other like water with a murderous look
I tried to stop myself from feeling whatever this was, it was definitely more than jealousy but I couldn't.
Was I wrong to assume he liked me?
I began recounting all our encounters;
He was extremely nice, he always bought my lunch and brought it to our extra lessons, he complimented my face, laugh and the way his hand lingered...
Was it all in my head?
Cara was literally getting the full package while I sat here, behind a wall, eating my feelings.
Pathetic.
That's what I am.
But without having any idea what to do, I tried to continue with my food but it really tasted like sour food and my appetite had gone with Cara's hands heading into Kane's shorts.
His friends crowded around him, he moved like the king of the pack, and they all laughed at a joke I didn't hear because my eyes were following Cara's hands.
I needed to get some fresh air.
I dropped the fries I'd tried to eat again and began heading out of where I hid when he looked my way.
Something flashed through his eyes and it quickly disappeared.
I looked away, unable to hide the hurt I felt which even I knew was unjustified.
I'd moved faster than my shadow and was taking someone's kindness as a proposal.
Who knew he would be with the most popular girl in my class?
Silly, stupid, pathetic.
I sped towards the door I'd come in through, but before I got to it, I heard him call my name.
"Sera? Guys meet Sera, she's new and has been helping me get my head out of my ass."
"Very cute ass might I add," Cara laughed excessively or maybe it's my sensitive ear and irritation.
I turned and saw him walking up to me.
He was wearing plain shorts, almost like everyone here.
I can't believe no one bothered to tell me it's a pool party, I dressed like I was going to the club.
"Kane," I forced a smile as he got to me.
"Did you forget something in your car?"
"Um, no. I was just leaving."
"Really? Is the party that boring?"
"Oh not really, it's a very nice party," I whimpered when he wrapped his hand around my shoulder.
'He doesn't like you Sera, get it together.'
"Let me introduce you to everyone," he said, pulling me to the edge of the pool where his close friends were gathered.
"Okay."
"That's Ethan," he pointed to a muscular guy with a little moustache which made no sense on an eighteen-year-old, "Jon, that's Edith, Teri and Cara. Guys meet Sera, she's my girl. So be nice to her."
His what now?
“Hey Sera, mind lending me that dress after tonight?” Edith waved from the edge of the pool.
Why did they all look like supermodels?
Tall, muscles and rapid growth, they literally looked like grown people.
I used to feel like I looked too mature for my age, my Mom's visitors said as much but standing next to these people, I looked like a puny child.
“Sure, I doubt it'll fit you though,” I replied.
“I think Edith's just trying to tell you that you look breathtaking.”
I couldn't fight the blush that crept up my cheeks.
“We want to see your swimsuit though!” Teri exclaimed and they all began laughing.
“I didn't come with one, sorry.”
“Oh that's fine, we're used to nudity here.”
“Leave the girl alone Teri,” Kane came to my rescue, “stay here, I'll be right back, I need to make sure my parents don't wake up and end the whole party.”
His parents are home?
So much weirdness.
I saw an empty couch next to the pool and I wiped away the water and sat down, waiting for Kane.
His friends moved to other friend groups as he disappeared and I was back to looking.
It seemed someone was selling drugs because the amount of testosterone at the party was concerning.
Not just men, but women too.
Back flips into the pool.
Some were running up the wall, flipping mid air and jumping down while others cheered and tried doing the same.
It was like those weird videos on Instagram that had people asking what the creator was training for.
No, they made that look like child's play.
I hadn't even spotted my cousins since I got here so I could avoid them, that's how large the compound was. I couldn't see the end of it.
Water splashed on me when someone flipped too close to the edge of the pool and my heart flew to my throat.
I didn't see blood, but I stood up anyway.
Kane wasn't back and I was missing out on the party.
Besides, Naomi gave me an assignment so I pulled out my phone and began walking around.
I made sure my flash was turned off, I didn't want to get in trouble, I knew how people get when there's a camera in their face. No one would understand we're just being silly and I have no intention of posting it anywhere.
“I've been looking for you.”
I turned to see Kane striding toward me.
I'd actually walked quite far from the pool. There was just so much to see. Three strippers had been dancing right behind me and in front of me was somebody doing a fireworks display.
“How are you able to pull this off?” I couldn't help asking.
“Eh, my parents have money they don't know what to do with.”
“I should charge you higher than I already do then,” I joked.
“Triple your rate, I'll pay anything just to stay with you.”
That damned blush again.
“There you go Kane, saying things you don't mean.”
“What? I mean every word I say Sera. You're beautiful, intelligent and fucking hot. I'll be dumb not to want more.”
“You told them I was your girl.”
“Forgive my forwardness, I assumed you were walking at the same pace as I was,” he said in a deeper voice, facing me directly and obliterating any other view from my eyes.
All I could see was his chest and abs and… the guy was beautiful and he's not done developing yet.
“But Cara,” I suddenly remembered, as if my brain reconnected after going on a break.
“Cara?” He asked, turning around to look at the girl. “What about her?”
They were eating berries and whipped cream off her stomach and everyone was having a swell time.
Jealousy wanted me and had me.
“What do you mean what about her? You guys were nearly fused together when I saw you.”
“Aww, you're already jealous. I love it. But don't worry about Cara, she's just a close family friend. Now come let me show you around, oh wait, I have to –”
“It's fine, you can go. Boyfriend,” I chuckled like I was in a loony house.
“I knew you'd understand, girlfriend,” he whispered sexily, rubbing his thumb on my lower lip.
I felt tiny shivers all over and soon, he was gone.
