Chapter 14 CHAPTER 14

Chapter 14 CHAPTER 14
My body hummed with tension as I watched through the window, waiting for them to leave.

My Aunt and her husband were out of the house too so this was a clean plan.

I texted Naomi my plans and she gave me a cleaner plan, and we giggled like little kids planning to turn the house upside down.

A knock came on my door and I startled.

I was still dressed up so I quickly took off the dress and put on a robe before rushing to the door.

“What?” I barked at Tori.

“I'm sorry about the mix-up, I know you were really excited for this but I'm very sure you'll attend the next one. Edgar shouldn't have invited you without checking in with me first.”

“It's fine,” I told her, “I'll just go to sleep early. I might watch a movie or something.”

“Remember to eat, I kept yours in the microwave.”

“Oh thank you,” I genuinely smiled.

Gosh, I was becoming a food addict now.

She gave me a strained smile in return and went down the stairs.

The second I shut the door, I changed back and waited at the window, crouched on my bed and watched.

They finally left and I watched which direction they went to for as long as my eyes could see and then I moved into action.

I quickly got into my car and drove towards them.

One good thing about this hypersensitive nose I developed was that I could tell where they were headed so I didn't drive too fast, I just kept my windows down and followed the smell of the exhaust Tori's car was letting out.

The journey wasn't too long, about a fifteen-minute drive inside the estate and I had to pause by a bad street light and I watched them go into a dark, tall gate.

“How can he live here?” I whispered as I watched them go further into what looked like a university dormitory.

The gate shut firmly behind them and I knew it was time to call Kane. I won't be able to get in otherwise.

There was no sign of a party outside so I was confused as well.

The phone rang while I watched their cars disappear into an underground garage and I braced up for the lie I'd have to tell Kane.

He picked on the last ring.

“Hey, What's up?”

“Sera? How are you?” I felt him walking towards something, the background too noisy but I could still focus on his voice.

“I'm good, can you come let me in?”

“Let you in? I thought you were coming with your cousins?”

“Yes but I took quite some time getting ready so I told them to go ahead, you'll help me get in. Is that a problem?”

“Of course not, I'll be with you in a minute.”

The call ends and I sit still, suddenly wondering if all of this is worth it.

I'm not a party freak, never been one for booze or assisted excitement but something about tonight just pulled me in.

Maybe it was the chance to be with Kane without the boundaries of school or the full moon hanging so close to us, I just wanted to be here.

To live a normal, everyday, teenage life.

In two years, I'll be a full-blown adult, taking care of myself in college, and I won't have time to be silly or to sneak around to get drunk.

Might as well start now.
I watched as someone walked towards the gate, not Kane as he was shorter so I turned my ignition and drove towards the gate.

It hurt a little that he sent someone to come get me but then I guess he's busy with organising the party.

The gate opened wide before I got to the gate and I drove in

"Hey, I'm Cal, Kane asked me to come get you," the guy said as I drove by his side.

"Thank you."
I slowed down for him to get in and he directed me to the Parking lot.
"Damn, you look hot," he said when I got to the other side, and I couldn't help blushing.
"You think he'll like it?"

Shit, I shouldn't have asked that but I was just so nervous.

"He'll be crazy not to. Come on, let me show you around. Kane is a bit busy at the moment."

"That's fine, I'll just hang around. I don't want to disturb you."
"Trust me, you're not. The party is boring anyway."

It wasn't.
The second I got through the door at the end of the garage that led to a backyard so large it could fit a small football pitch, I was bamboozled by the amount of money I could see being spent.

The drinks were flowing, my stomach screamed at me to get some food as I saw meat and chocolate literally everywhere, people were in the pool, some were running around, others were playing games....

Like I said, far from boring.
"Give me a sec, I'll be right back!" Cal exclaimed as he rushed to go join a drinking game that was getting a bit out of hand by the left, leaving me very alone in a crowded place.

I'd asked him to leave but now that he did, I was confused and without knowing any familiar face, I felt like an intruder.
I thought about calling Kane again but remembered he was busy so I indulged my stomach and went towards the food.
I'd stuck to eating once a day this past week, hoping my insane hunger pangs would reduce but none of that was happening.

I was still hungry every time there wasn't food in front of me. I'm taking the night off so it won't hurt to splurge this one time.
Besides, people were giving me weird, hostile looks so it was a good idea to go hide somewhere and eat.

Also, I don't want to encounter my cousins too soon.
I found the food to be quite delicious, the type you just know your Mom won't be able to cook except she went to a very good culinary school.

I was indulging in it when something caught my eye.

Kane walked out of one of the doors that led to the huge mansion behind us, Cara's arm in his.

The food turned sour in my mouth.
