Chapter 16 CHAPTER 16
Maybe I shouldn't be this excited about Kane but I've never had someone show me attention like that, and especially someone of his calibre.
Beyond the affluence and ability to throw insane parties without feeling the financial burden, Kane is insanely built for the eyes.
Tall, broad shoulders, more handsome than your average high school jock. Although I have never seen him play, I was dying to see that.
I imagined him wearing me his jersey after winning, our hands together while his team celebrated him and what's more, he's the leader of his friend group in a weird way.
They all paid attention when he spoke, he exuded confidence and spoke to everybody kindly.
It's why the Cara thing didn't upset me much.
I've seen Cara in action, she wants to be noticed and doesn't even care that it's a teacher or the hottest boy in school.
Although I'll have to talk to him about boundaries, he shouldn't let everyone have access to him like that.
I pushed myself back into action, first to find my cousins before they find me and then to avoid standing like a lunatic, daydreaming about Kane.
I'd figured out a perfect way to keep the phone without screaming at everyone to see what I'm doing.
Thankfully nobody paid attention to me. It hurt a little that they only wanted to talk to me when Kane was around but it's a pain I'm used to.
I heard a buzz coming from a corner close to the forest behind all of this madness and it was very loud because everywhere was loud.
I inched forward, curious about what was making them all excited.
Everyone was hooing and haaing, clapping at something I assumed was another acrobatic display and when I peered over someone's shoulder, I wasn't surprised.
There was an insane amount of domestic wolves in this place and it scared me how everyone acted like it was normal and I'm the absurd one.
The wolves weren't aggressive, or so I thought.
Right before my eyes, these two were wrestling, brutally and fiercely, blood pouring out.
Each time one bit the other, the crowd would cheer, and my heart would split in half.
Why are they comfortable with this?
Is this not animal cruelty?
Rich people are weird.
The view was sickening and I was about to turn away when something happened.
The blonde wolf pulled back, bleeding and tired but there was a feral look in her eyes while the grey one tried to get on his knees and to stand.
Blond wolf bounced twice on the ground, flew into the air and jumped on the grey wolf, biting into his neck.
I gasped.
But what came next confused me.
A hand, a human hand slowly pulled out of Grey's paw and I inched forward, trying to figure out what was happening.
The second hand did the same.
"Sera! What are you doing here?!"
My chest nearly escaped from my chest as I swirled to see Tori looking at me with eyes wide as saucers.
I turned back to understand what the hell was happening but it was like I'd imagined everything, the wolves were gone, the people were exchanging money and two naked people at the back were wearing clothes.
I know what I saw, there's no way a human was hiding under the wolf all the while that fight happened.
Something is wrong with this town.
"Sera!"
"Can you stop yelling?" I snapped, my ears close to popping. "I came with Kane. I'm not a child, I can have a boyfriend so stop acting like my mother."
"Your mother didn't act like one so you should be grateful I'm even trying. And Kane is your boyfriend? You're dumber than I thought. Let's go home now or I'll call Mom. Trust me, you don't want to see her pissed."
She didn't need to threaten me further, her words burned a hole deep enough to push my feet forward.
I tried driving but I couldn't get my hand to stop moving.
I know I saw something strange but I didn't understand it
My head was still ringing from the entire experience.
Edgar knocked on my window.
"Sorry about Tori, she's a control freak sometimes."
"Doesn't justify anything she said. Can you help me drive? I can't.. I saw something and I just..."
"Kane throws the craziest of parties so don't overthink anything you saw."
"Even the wolves fighting?"
"They'll be talented to a vet tomorrow, don't worry your kind heart," he chuckled, as though all of this was normal.
I wanted to ask him about the hand thing but I feared sounding like a lunatic so I let it slide.
I moved to the passenger seat and he came to drive, taking me home.
It was about two hours later when Kane realised I was gone.
But the pain dissipated when we began talking.
He'd decided to retire early just to talk to me and that was really heart-warming.
"Did you have fun tonight?" He asked after a pause.
"I.. yes. You throw the craziest parties."
"That's what the reviews say," he laughed. "Don't worry, next time, you'll be fully involved in the process as my girl."
"Your girl. I like the sound of that."
"We'll get used to hearing it. I'm taking you on a date tomorrow. Somewhere less noisy. Somewhere I don't have to steal a kiss. Your lips keep me up at night Sera, the goddess made a big one when creating you."
"Kane!"
"I'm sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself again," he chuckled.
"No it's... Fine. It's just... I've never.."
"You've never been kissed before?'
"No."
"Now don't tell me you've never had sex before Sera."
"I'm eighteen Kane, don't make it sound like a crime."
"Oh not that, I'm sorry it came out that way. I'm just excited to be your first. You're special Sera, I'll make the experience worth it."
My heart beat faster as the conversation completely went off beat.
Was I ready for this?
Is this too fast or have I been living under a damn rock?
