Chapter 28 Almost
Bryce was sure that the woman he had just seen was Rossie, his ex-wife. He immediately turned around and intended to ask Rossie for an explanation, but he realized that Darren was currently escorting her out.
Bryce remained silent, watching his ex-wife's movements, trying to guess what she was doing.
Meanwhile, Rossie squeezed her own hands as she continued walking. She realized that she had come out of hiding too quickly.
"Bryce mustn't suspect me," she thought to herself as she continued walking, passing her room and turning right.
"Mr. Bryce, did you leave something in Miss Cavendish's room? I can help you get it," said Darren, who already knew what Bryce was thinking.
Bryce was stunned.
"Oh, I think I see someone I know walking that way!" Bryce pointed in the direction Rossie was walking.
"Oh, that's the meeting room that other divisions usually use."
Bryce nodded, not wanting to prolong the conversation.
Ten minutes later, Rossie returned to her room and drank some cold water. "Phew! Finally, that jerk is gone."
Becca immediately approached her and breathed a sigh of relief. "Miss Cavendish, thank goodness you're back. I was really nervous. I thought Mr. Bryce Johansen was a lecherous middle-aged man, but it turns out he's young and handsome. I was even charmed by him for a moment."
Rossie turned to her and smiled, "Oh, so you like him?"
Becca immediately waved her hands in front of Rossie and corrected herself. "No... I don't mean it like that, Miss. I just said that he didn't meet my expectations."
Although she was known as a fierce woman, she didn't dare to be rude to Rossie.
"Never mind, I appreciate your help, you did a good job." Rossie then handed her the check she had promised. "As I promised, take it, and if I need your help again, I'll still pay you!"
"Th-thank you, Miss Cavendish!" Rossie looked at the amount on the check, and it made her feel really lucky. Right now, she really needs a lot of money for her daughter's surgery.
While she was still stunned by the amount on the check, Darren suddenly came over and handed her a document. It was a confidentiality agreement.
"I know you are a trustworthy person, but we still need professionalism so that it is beneficial for both parties. So I am giving you an employment contract to sign," said Rossie.
"What happened today is our secret, and only I can disclose it. It is also written there that there will be strict sanctions if this is heard by other parties and the news is not from me."
Becca nodded and signed the contract without hesitation. She also had no interest in revealing this to anyone else. Miss Cavendish had been so good to her; she shouldn't betray her.
"I'm done, ma'am," said Becca as she handed the contract back.
Rossie nodded, "All right, you may go!"
After Becca left, Darren said to Rossie, "I hear Bryce is a strict person, and not easy to figure out. What do you think, Miss?"
Rossie exhaled deeply and smiled cynically. "Hmm, yes, that's right, and he really loves Lily Jones. So much so that he put his ego aside and came to see me!"
"I heard that this is his second marriage, and he treated his first wife badly. Now Miss Jones is going to marry him, and I think this is unfair to his first wife."
Rossie slammed her hand on the table and stared sharply at Darren, making him tremble. But Darren didn't know why Miss Cavendish was so angry. What had he done?
"Miss Rossie, after you failed to make a deal with Jasper, what are you going to do?" Darren quickly changed the subject.
"Just wait and see," Rossie replied, making Darren even more confused.
"I'll wait until the Jones Group is completely cornered and Jake has no choice but to do this alone. They will try to save their reputation. When that day comes, I will deliver the final blow," Rossie grinned.
"Do you think Mr. Bryce will help them?" Darren asked.
Rossie shook her head. "He doesn't know what they're really like, and he's been used all this time. But now that the truth is out, I'm sure he won't support them anymore. He loves Lily Jones; he doesn't care about the rest of his family. Bryce showed up this time because the controversy might indirectly affect the Jones Group, and I know that Bryce and his family are very calculating."
Bryce didn't care about his pride to help Lily. He would do anything for Lily. However, he wasn't willing to do something as simple as pour a glass of water for Rossie when they were married. Even when he was in pain at that time.
With red eyes, Rossie suddenly smiled. "Bryce Johansen, I hope you and Lily are miserable together forever!"
The atmosphere in Bryce's car was gloomy. He massaged his temples, the headache returning.
While driving, Steven said, "You've met many annoying people, but I've never seen anyone like her."
He felt something strange about his meeting with Miss Cavendish that afternoon. There was something he thought was suspicious. His feelings told him so, but he didn't dare to show it or try to find out more about the woman.
All he could think about was Lily, the woman he was going to marry.
"Investigate the dispute between the Jones and Cavendish groups. Find out about Adrian and Jake's involvement too! Report to me as soon as you find something," Bryce ordered.
Bryce hurried back to his office and finished his work for the day. He leaned back in his chair and sighed wearily. He hoped his relationship with Lily would work out, unlike what he had missed out on three years ago with Rossie.
But he still couldn't get Rossie out of his mind, whom he had seen earlier at the Nexus Group. 'What was she doing there?'
